PASF is an organization associated with Spanish Club/Spanish Honor Society

(see description below). Students from Spanish Club attend the annual State Convention in San Antonio, which was last weekend.

Texas joined the organization in 1943. The purpose of PASF then, as now, is to offer students and teachers a better opportunity to learn more about all the Americas and the Spanish speaking world, thus fostering cordial relations among these peoples.”

The Interscholastic League Press Conference (UIL of Journalism publications) released their

awards this week. This is for all 5A Texas schools who enter. If you have any of the following

students, please congratulate them!

Tuesday, April 7, the CPHS Speech/Debate Team attended their District meet. Claire Cantrell - Informative Speaking - 5th place/second Alternate to the Regionals Lexxi Clinton - Poetry Interpretation - 4th place/first alternate to Regionals Kerry Madden - Poetry Interpretation - 3rd place/Regional Candidate Cindy Orr - Prose Interpretation - 6th place And in Lincoln/Douglas Debate, we swept the district, taking all three Regional spots: York Westenhaver - 3rd place/Regional Candidate Macalah Thomas - 2nd place/Regional Candidate Morgan Grosch - 1st place/Regional Candidate and 1st Place Speaker award The Speech/Debate Team also took 2nd place Speech Sweepstakes!

For the yearbooks and digital media categories this year attracted 4646 entries produced by students at colleges, universities and secondary schools throughout the United States. Judges cited a total of 671 winners for either First, Second or Third Place or for Certificates of Merit for those deemed worthy of honorable mention in a category.

Celebrities at the California Science Center looking at the Space Shuttle Endeavour

The Swimming Timberwolves had a terrific showing at the 17-5A District Swim Meet this past weekend in Temple. The preliminaries on Friday yielded multiple best times from multiple members of the team. Fourteen of the 22 swimmers that competed qualified to swim again on Saturday for Finals.

The following athletes placed in the top six to move on to the Regional Championships at Texas A&M University. Kristen Perron, Lauren Partridge, Brady Sullivan, Alex Gonazalez, Travis Beall, Reagan Stephenson, Chad

Alsobrook, Sammi Grant, Georgia Squires, Katie Fitzgerald, Reece Andrews, Jack Weiland, Elena Ivanova, Chandler Hughes, Victoria Sananikone, and Danny Grant

Victoria Sananikone won the 100 yard butterfly and Senior Danny Grant won the 200 IM As a team the Women took 2nd to Vandegrift and the Men were 3rd.

Teams that placed first or second will advance to Area level competition on Nov. 19 at Blanco High School. Congratulations to Cedar Park Band students for their success at the Region 26 TMEA All-State Orchestra tryouts. Only students performing at the highest level are allowed to enter the contest. Cedar Park Band students all competed at the 6A level. Students from Leander ISD, Round Rock ISD, Lake Travis ISD, Georgetown ISD and a few smaller districts where in the competition. Most rooms had 50 students on the same instrument participating. Four Cedar Park Band students earned highest honors on their instrument. Students advancing to Regionals were Tammy Voor and Katie Willig. Students advancing to the Area level of competition were Rachel Cernosek and Nello Kotyuk. Rachel Cernosek placed 1st, winning the highest honor on her instrument.

The boys’ golf team took 1st place at the Health Careers tournament at the Republic of Texas course in San Antonio. The boys’ shot 294. Charles Kim took 1st individually with a 4 under par 67. Also contributing

Sunday, October 18th, was the 4th year in a row for the cheerleaders to participate and cheer at the Down Syndrome Association's Buddy Walk at Reunion Ranch. They performed and then cheered on the walkers for their mile walk. The amount of compliments we received was endless.

On Saturday, October 18th, the band participated in the UIL Marching Contest. The band all earned Superior ratings from all judges. The judges were extremely impressed throughout the whole show. They absolutely raved about the performance! They were blown away!

Recent contests that the band participated in where hugely successful as well. Bands of America - Austin 7th place overall Won Ensemble Music caption overall! Vista Ridge Marching Festival Won Music overall in Prelims & Finals! Won Colorguard overall in Prelims & Finals! 2nd overall in Prelims & Finals! Texas Marching Classic 1 - Leander HS 2 - Cedar Park HS 3 - Vandegrift HS 4 - Clements HS (Sugarland) 5 - Westwood HS

The CPHS Speech/Debate Team competed at the Judson High School Texas Forensic Meet in San Antonio. Greg Phea and Ricky Rosario took 1st place in Cross Examination Debate, Novice Division. Ricky Rosario also took the 3rd place speaker award. Macalah Thomas tied for 3rd place in Varsity Cross Examination Debate.

Alina Tang is a finalist in the 2014 NSPA Picture of the Year contest (Tracks Yearbook). The

winners will be revealed during the awards ceremony on November 8 at the JEA/NSPA Fall

National High School Journalism Convention in Washington, D.C.

Cedar Park Swimmers competed against Leander HS and Stony Point HS and started the year with a 1st place win for the girls’ team and a 2nd place win for the boys’ team. On September 27th 40 CPHS Choir students attended the TMEA District Choir Auditions. They competed against over 500 choir students from different schools in the Central Texas area for one of only 288 places. Congratulations to all of the students who auditioned for their very hard work! 25 students from the CPHS Choir made the District Choir! These students will now go on to compete in the next round of All-State auditions for one of 120 places in the TMEA Region Choir on Oct. 28 thereby earning a place in the third round of auditions. Great job, and good luck at Region auditions!!! CPHS volleyball v. Leander on September 16th. The annual volleyball “Burger Bash” event raised $1,290 and drew a crowd of 350-400. “It raises money for a charity of the host teams choosing.” This year the money raised will be donated to Tree of Lights, a charity through Hill Country Bible Church which buys Christmas presents for children of veterans and those living in foster care.

Cedar Park boys’ cross country at the Magnolia Heat Wave relays. CPHS finished 3rd overall and 1st in the 5A classification! Congratulations to Maximilian Doan and Tyler Lovelace who were selected as Texas Interscholastic League Foundation (TILF) scholarship recipients for The Welch Foundation Scholarship for 2014. TILF provides scholarships to students who excel in UIL academic and music contests. A full listing of students across the state receiving awards can be found at http://tilf.uiltexas.org/news-and-events/recipients/. TILF awarded 387 new and 204 continuing scholarships this year totaling more than $1.1 million. Congratulations to Kenzie Cherniak. Kenzie was awarded a scholarship from the Scott & White Healthcare – Round Rock Volunteer organization during a junior volunteer recognition ceremony held at the Round Rock Hospital! Kenzie had the opportunity to shadow Dr. Rick Schultz, an orthopedic surgeon, in the operating room on a day he was doing a total knee replacement, and she got to ‘scrub in’ and be part of the team that day.

Ayah Alomari (pictured above) took 8th place in the SkillsUSA Championship that took place in Kansas City, Missouri. The National Skills & Leadership Conference features 15,000 attendees and 6,000 contestants from across United States and the territories. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel. Their mission is to empower its members to become world-class workers, leaders and responsible American citizens. Please join me in congratulating Ayah whose photo is hereby attached. Seven members of CPHS HOSA qualified and attended National HOSA Conference June 25-30, 2014 in Orlando Florida. The CERT Team Emily Ismail and Alina Tang took 4th in the event. Public Health team of Nina Hoyt, Lindsey Stawowy, Zach Vessels, and Nathan Vu took 4th in the event also. Christina Loera was acknowledged for the CPHS HOSA Newsletter in the event HOSA Happenings.
