COLLECTION BREAKDOWN for March 21st and 22nd:

First Collection: $821.00 2nd Collection: $137.00 (Parish Maintenance)

Our thanks to all of our parishioners who respond each week to the needs of our parish and who make their weekly offering a part of their budget. Your contributions, both monetary and in service, are important to our parish. May God bless you for your generosity.

Scripture reflection with Fr. Tim + Pause + Reflect + Act +

1) When have you experienced loneliness, fear or insecurity? What does it mean to know God’s love promises hope at such times? What can you do to help others who might be afraid, alone, or insecure?

2) What can you do to nurture and strengthen God’s Spirit with you?

3) In today’s gospel, we read our shortest Bible verse in English. “And Jesus wept.” Does it affect your relationship with Jesus knowing he experienced human emotions?

4) As we continue to celebrate Mass, without the physical presence of the community, how does this Gospel passage help, sustain, and renew our anxious spirits?

For anyone seeking • Baptism • First Eucharist •

• Confirmation •

RCIA Classes are cancelled until further notice. Please pray for all those who have decided

to follow the journey of our faith.

A Note About Mass Intentions

During these weeks, both Fr. Tim and Fr. Michal are concelebrating all Masses. Each of them offers the sacrifice of the Mass in the listed intention. They also bring your special intensions to the Eucharistic table. In this way, we are all united as a Christian family, the Universal Church praying for each other and our needs at Mass. Therefore, ~ All intentions scheduled for the 7:30 AM Masses are now being said along with the 9:00 AM Mass intentions. ~ All intentions scheduled for the 12 noon Masses are now being said along with the 10:30 AM Mass intentions.

A Message from Fr. Tim

Wednesday, March 25th:

Greetings and prayers:

“I thank my God whenever I think of you, and every time I pray for you all, I always pray with joy for your partnership in the

Gospel from the very first day up to the present.”

Today is the feast of the Visitation when the angel Gabriel visited Mary and said, “Do not be afraid.” It’s nine months from today that we celebrate the birth of Jesus in history. And in today’s reading from Isaiah we are told that the name Emanuel means “God is with us”. While we continue to celebrate the Eucharist without the physical presence of our parish community, we take the words of Gabriel and Isaiah to heart.

Fr. Michal and I would like to express our deep appreciation for the support, affirmation, concerns and generosity of our parish family. While we miss the physical presence of people, we thank God for the gift of media, texting and phones. We are grateful to those who have signed up for electronic giving or sent in their contribution. We are well aware of the financial strains caused by the pandemic. Hence, we are inspired and humbled by your generosity.

I would like to acknowledge in a special way Fr. Michal, for his creativity, insight and research in enabling us to connect on a daily and weekly basis the gift of the Eucharist with the Good Shepherd community. Also, the parish staff should be recognized for their dedication, sense of duty and service.

Our Bishop has already informed us that we are to celebrate Holy Week and Easter without the physical presence of the community. Please refer to the schedule in the bulletin. Additionally, cited from the Bishop; the deferment of the sacraments of First Eucharist and Confirmation, as well as RCIA and the Confirmation retreat. Parishes are still permitted to offer Eucharistic Adoration which will be available on Sundays from 11:30am until 2:30pm until notified otherwise. I am certain the Lent of 2020 will be well remembered. This unique experience has allowed us to go into a deeper relationship with God. In a sense, we are able to see as God sees, what is important and not important. The absence of the physical presence of the Eucharist and community makes us aware of the power of the Eucharist and community. So, continue with prayers and to reach out to people through phone calls and technology. Remember to use your common sense and the safety of social distancing. It is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness.

Peace, Fr. Tim

FAITH FORMATION NOTES

Gospel Reading John 11:1-45 Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead.

Family Connection

Jesus’ promise of eternal life is a central element of our Catholic faith. Even though Easter is still two weeks away, our Gospel today invites us to acknowledge Jesus’ power over death, evidenced in the raising of Lazarus, and to anticipate Jesus’ conquering of death once and for all in His death and Resurrection. We sometimes use examples from nature to help describe this mystery of our faith. Jesus Himself talked about the seed that dies when planted in the ground in order to produce new life (John 12:24). Using that image and others, we find hope and confidence in Jesus, the Resurrection and the life. (Loyola Press)

The Annunciation: Behold the Handmaid of the Lord

On Wednesday, March 25th, we celebrated the Annunciation; Luke 1:26-38 .This feast recalls the day the Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary and asked her to be the Mother of Jesus. Mary was an ordinary young girl, with a strong faith from a small town. Yet she was chosen by God! His plan was for Mary to be the mother of His Son. She was preserved from the stain of original sin from the very moment of her conception (The Immaculate Conception). Even though Mary did not fully understand God’s plan she said “Yes” to His will and let her faith guide her. Mary is our Mother and greatest saint. You can help your children grow in their faith and remember to trust in God by sharing this story and reciting or learning the “Hail Mary” together.

Pope Francis has asked our parish to support the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps Christians in the Holy Land.

Your support helps the church minster in parishes, provide Catholic schools and offer religious education. The Pontifical Good Friday Collection also helps to preserve the sacred shrines.

The wars, unrest and stability have been especially hard on Christians. In these times of crisis, the collection provides humanitarian aide to refugees.

When you contribute to the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, you become an instrument of peace and join with Catholics around the world in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land.

THE PONTIFICAL GOOD FRIDAY COLLECTION

ASK A FRANCISCAN…

My parish’s crucifix shows Jesus with nails through his wrists. It also has a stained glass window showing the apostle Thomas placing his finger through the nail marks in Jesus’ hand. Why the difference? A nail below the wrist could secure an adult to a cross. A nail in the palm of a hand would not because the person’s weight would cause the body to tear away. The stained glass window represents the more common artistic tradition with nail marks through Jesus’ palms. By the way, John 20:24-29 does not say that Thomas actually took Jesus up on the offer to do this.

THE PASSOVER OF OUR LORD

The Paschal Triduum, or “Three Days” is the most solemn event of the Christian year. Beginning on the evening of Holy Thursday and closing with Evening Prayer on Easter Sunday, these three days celebrate Christ’s passage through death to new life.

Early Christians celebrated only the Easter Vigil, concluding with a Mass at dawn at which the catechumens were baptized. By the fifth century, the events of Easter were commemorated as units, and there emerged an Easter Triduum of Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter. Later, Holy Thursday evening was added because the “days” were reckoned from sundown the day before.

The celebration of each day revolves around a central liturgical action: the Washing of the Feet, the Adoration of the Cross, the Baptism of Catechumens.

The centerpiece of the Church’s entire liturgical year is Easter Vigil. Beginning with the blessing of the new fire and the light ceremony, the Vigil recounts our salvation history in an extended liturgy of the Word. Baptism and the renewal of our baptismal promises prepare us to receive the Eucharist with new hearts. The Paschal Triduum concludes with Evening Prayer on Easter Sunday, and the 50-day Easter Season begins.
