Goondi Under 8s day

Edition 15—14 September 2021

Congratulations to Astan Sneath who signed up with Bruno Foschi as a school-based painting apprentice. This is a great start to Astan’s profession as a painter.

Aston will work one day per week with Bruno until he finishes year 12 and will then carry on as a full-time apprentice. By beginning his apprenticeship before he leaves school, Astan will have a great start to his painting career.

School-based apprenticeships and traineeships allow high school students to work for an employer and train towards a recognised qualification, while completing their secondary schooling and studying for their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and/or Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).

We would like to thank Bruno for joining the other local business owners who support our students.

Upcoming events

Special thanks go to one of our wonderful cleaners, Mrs Mary Clark who has been sorting through some of our school’s general rubbish bins (not the recycling bins) to collect cans, bottles and plastic containers so she can donate the money raised towards this year’s formal.

Our Class of 2021 is grateful for your amazing thoughtfulness, hard work, and generosity, Mrs Clark!

RU OK? DAY

Even with the cloudy weather, the atmosphere at ISC was happy and friendly on Thursday 9 September. Bright yellow specks were seen everywhere you looked. R U OK? Day, is a day when we are reminded just how powerful it is to start a conversation with anyone who may be struggling with life. We all have struggles, but often do not feel comfortable to share them. Therefore, it was a terrific opportunity for students and staff to open up on Thursday.

Behind the scenes at 6:45am, some lovely students from student council, wonderful volunteers and staff started to cook the delicious, bacon and egg rolls. From 7:30am, student council members served the yummy breakfast rolls to teachers, admin officers, cleaners and fellow peers.

Thank you for those who attended the disco as the money raised there was spent

back on our school through the breakfast. The money raised through the pop-up raffle will be donated to the youth centre to

continue our support of our local community. Thank you everyone for the enormous support on the day.

from your Student Council Publicity Officer, Julia Moran, year 12.

Arts Fusion

Diamonds in the Sky

Congratulations to the Innisfail State College student and staff team which was victorious in the Diamonds in the Sky touch football competition at the carnival proudly hosted by ISC last Saturday.

The event is an annual basketball and touch football gala day, designed to get us out and active in our community, building positive relationships through sports and conversations. We congratulate the organisers of this excellent event.

Whether it was a Shakespearian soliloquy, an hilarious dramatic skit, a classical string ensemble performance, a high-energy hip-hop dance routine, a rock hit from the 70s, a thrilling cheer squad presentation or a snappy jazz number, the Arts Fusion concert at the Shire Hall last Friday night had something for every member of the audience.

The talents of our amazing students along with the dedication of our wonderful staff was on show front and centre as we enjoyed a terrific program of entertainment. Further delight for all is the display of our students’ excellent art works which take pride of place in the Shire Hall display windows at street level. Congratulations to all involved!

Golfing success

Four junior golfers from the Far North Queensland region are selected each year by the FNQ Junior Golf Co-ordinator, who then submits the team selection to the FNQ Golf president for approval. We are tremendously proud to announce that Caine Cockle has been selected as part of the FNQ Junior Team at the Gary Player Classic which is being held in Brisbane 21st to 24th September. Caine was presented with his shirt on the weekend. We wish Caine the very best in the Classic.

We acknowledge the efforts of Rylee, Julia, Tara, Tayla, Nolear and Tiarna for giving their time, energy and positivity to Innisfail Inner Wheel Club, when they recently conducted a fundraising event in the form of a High Tea Garden Party. The ISC team provided the wonderful table service for 100 guests, raising money for cord blood research as well as local charitable projects. Congratulations girls, for enacting our college vision of “Community Pride”.
