The final arrangements have been made and everything is now in place to ensure that the day will be a fantastic success at Gorslas Welfare Park. With live music, games and stalls galore, as well as the much-anticipated parade, the carnival is sure to offer a bril- liant time to everyone who at- tends. The fun begins officially at 6pm on Friday, September 5 with a disco, Pedal Power, which is open to all primary- school children. Saturday’s celebrations will begin at 12.30pm when those taking part in the parade will assemble at Gwernllwyn for a 1pm start. Led by Ammanford Town Band, the procession will make its way along Cross Hands Road towards Gorslas Square where it will turn on to Church Road before arriving at Gorslas Industrial Estate. The carnival will get into full swing when the fun and games begin at the Welfare Park. There visitors will find the marquee packed with stalls selling everything from deli- cious cakes to tasty vegetables grown at the local school. Gorslas Parent Teacher As- sociation will be there — and do not forget to try your hand at the game stalls, which will include guessing the cost of the hamper and a version of Play Your Cards Right. The marquee will be the place to be for entertainment too. There will be live music from bilingual band Baldande, a cookery demonstration from Lisa Fearn of Carmarthen, re- mote-control cars and brilliant family fun from entertainer Crazy Clayton. The outside attractions will include a bouncy castle, rugby and football competitions, a bucking bronco and a demon- stration by Carmarthenshire Gymnastics Club. Ellis Davies, chairman of Gorslas Welfare Association which organises the event, said: “Last year was the first procession of carnival floats in the village for more than 50 years and everyone thorough- ly enjoyedthe day. “This year’s carnival after- noon promises to be exciting for everyone.” Donations for the cake stall are very much appreciated. Anyone who is able to make a donation is asked to call Irene Jones on 01269 844948 or bring cakes to the marquee at the Welfare Park between 10am and noon on Saturday. Volunteers who are able to help on Saturday can call Terry Davies on 01269 842784, Ellis Davies on 01269 843535 or Gavin Griffiths on 07971 784003.
