• Entrepreneurship Development Club (EDC) is functioning in our college. • The objective of the Club is to motivate students, to be an

Power System Stabilizer Using Particle Swarm Optimization’ presented by Vishnudas P. H. at Eminance, a two day seminar on Power System Operation and Control at Thejus Engineering College, Thrissur in 2012 won the first place.• The Paper on “Performance analysis of Hybrid HVDC transmission

system for connecting offshore wind farm to onshore grid” presented by Ann Maria Issac in the international conference on Innovations, Advances in Science, Engineering and Technology(ICIASET-2014) won the first prize.

• An online feedback system maintained by the CCF, College of Engineering Trivandrum. • The generated teaching evaluation index as well as the remarks are

distributed to the concerned faculty member through the head of the department. • Explanation is sought from faculty with evaluation index below a

specified level and appropriate corrective measures will be suggested by the head of the department. • Teachers having effective index less than 70 are counseled by HOD

Career Guidance, Placement Unit(Availability of an exclusive Well furnished Seminar Hall, Central Computing Facility, Soft skill development, employability assessment)The Training & Placement Cell of the college is functioning under the guidance of aGoverning Body consisting Principal and HODs of all Departments. Two faculties from

engineering departments are appointed as Training and Placement officer and Asst Training and Placement Officer.

The main objectives of the cell are:1. To assist the students in getting placement in reputed organizations throughcampus interviews.2. To organize programs relevant to personality development, aptitude tests etc byprofessionals.3. The college has well-equipped Laboratories, Workshops, Computer Centre, Library and other facilities for running the above said programmes. For the smooth and effective conduct the various programmes and to man the various departments, the College is utilizing the services of about 200 well-qualified faculties, 80 specially trained workshop and laboratory technicians and about 100 administrative staff. Facilities like Hostels (for Boys and Girls), Staff Quarters, Dispensary, Post Office, Bank, Co-operative Stores, and College Bus are available both to the students and staff.

Edusat facility is available in the college from 2006 onwards.

Hostels•The college has four Hostel Blocks for men and two Hostel Blocks for women students with capacity 690 and 160 respectively. •These hostels have separate establishments and are headed by the warden assisted by Resident Tutors. •The Hostel Warden will be one of the senior faculty of an engineering department and will be nominated by the college council every two years.•Messes are run on dividing system and there is provision for vegetarian and non-vegetarian messes. •The hostel inmates are expected to follow the hostel rules strictly and as directed by warden and resident tutors.

Canteen

• One canteen and one Cafeteria are functioning within the campus for convenience of the staff and students (Both Regular and Part-Time)

1. Canteen, with a seating capacity for 96 persons2. Cafeteria, with a seating capacity for 14 persons

• Serves breakfast, lunch and tea at a subsidized rate for students and staff of GECT.

Transport facilities

• There are 5 Buses including one donated by College PTA, a jeep and a car on service to reduce the transport problems of students and staff of this institution. • These servicesare very much helpful to the students and staff for their journey

to and from the college as well as various industrial visits in connection with the curriculum. • A bus committeecomprising 6 members is constituted for regulating the

various functions of buses. The students are issued Identity cum Bus Pass during the admission process.• GEC Trichur is 60 kms from Cochin International Airport and 6 kms from

Thrissur Railway Station. The institution is well connected by roads to Thrissur Town (5 km) and other parts of Kerala.

Electricity, power backup and telecom • Electricity: The institution is well connected with dedicated power supply

Drinking Water

• The institution is well connected with a water distribution network. Four tanks with a total storage capacity of 1, 25,000 litres (3 x 25,000 L, 1 x 50,000 L). • Water purifying system is installed in various points. Mineral water

supply is made available in the departments. Besides water from three open wells, purified water supply from City Corporation is used. • The maintenance of water supply is done by PWD and Committee for

Plumbing/Mechanical Works. The committee consists of a faculty from Mechanical Engineering Department and two supporting staff.

4. Pain and Palliative Care Unit:OASIS is the pain and palliative care unit of Govt. Engineering College, Thrissur, and was

established four years ago. The OASIS represents the student community in the field of palliative care. It aims to bring a contemporary thought into the lives of everyone related to this institution. One of its primary objectives is to spread awareness on palliative care and its importance in the midst of nation’s youth.

It works as a supporting group for the Alpha pain clinic. It participates in all activities of the Alpha pain clinic, especially the “world hospice and palliative care day” is

the home care programme organized every week. The members of the OASIS frequently visit the Alpha pain clinic to facilitate and provide palliative care. The members go for

the home care programme, which provides free treatment and medicine to the needy irrespective of their financial status by visiting their homes every week with the Alpha pain

clinic thus comprehending palliative care and offering it. Assistance is also provided in gathering funds for the Alpha pain clinic by installing donation boxes in the premises of

the college. Help, from an engineering point of view is provided by constructing medicine equipments at lower costs.
