Annual Quality Assurance Report

For the Year 2005-06

In pursuance of the national action plan of the NAAC, internal quality

assurance cell (IQAC) has been established as a post accreditation quality

sustenance measure in our institution. IQAC consists of the following.

PPAARRTT -- AA

The Plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year

towards quality enhancement and the outcome achieved by the end of the

academic year. It consists of :

a) Continuation of the already existing programs and

b) The launching of new programmes for the current year.

After taking stock of the changes brought about in the academic year

2004-05, IQAC decided to consolidate the gains made as well as work on

areas which have not been successfully tackled in the previous years.

These strategies are as follows:

Ø Improving and honing communicative skills for teaching

/learning purposes; by

i. Equipping the institution with audio visual gadgets like

LCD projector, OHP etc.

ii. Training students for public speaking in English and

other vernacular languages

iii. Training students for drafting correspondence.

Ø Conducting programs operated to develop and organize study

skills

Ø Providing efficient administrative support through

computerization etc.

Ø Increasing inputs available for students by:

i. Computerized library facilities

ii. Counseling services for career / personal challenges

iii. Arranging special lectures for importing life skills and

iv. Promoting, identifying and encouraging skills, talents /

abilities in events for culture and sports.

Ø Organization of educational tours and industrial visits

Ø Improving the ‘septic quotient’ by commemorating through the

observation of important occasions like National Science Day,

World Environment Day Bio-Diversity Day, etc.

Ø Upgrading the library stock by purchasing recent volumes,

editions and journals.

Ø Maintaining repairing and upgrading of structure and

infrastructure as a regular basis (auditorium and labs).

Ø Motivating faculty to take up minor/ major research projects.

Ø Strengthening the college level CDC

Ø Organizing seminars workshops etc. towards enrichment of

knowledge and skills.

Ø Planning to take up consultancy services.

Ø Strengthening the alumni network

Ø Conducting remedial classes for weak students

Ø Setting up full-fledged IQAC unit.

Ø Strengthening of the institution industry interface

Ø Establishing a science club

PPAARRTT--BB

(1) Activities undertaken to reflect the goals and objectives of the institution

a. Supporting students to overcome their personal hurdles in areas

other than academics spheres.

b. Through utilization of Scholarships and Awards.

c. Instituting cash Awards to toppers.

d. Participation of students in Cultural and Sports competition has

been increasing. The talents among the students are identified,

encouraged and trained in the filed of their talent. They are also

provided a platform to venture..... their talent. This has resulted in

the regular increase in the number of Awards and this has provided

a better identity to the institution.

· Creating an environment conducive to obtain an autonomous status.

· Developing institutional skills to obtain more PG courses.

· Setting up of a new independent lab for computer science and

Environmental science department

· Establishment of Edusat unit

(3) Innovation in curricular design and transaction.

Since June 2004 the semester system has been followed, in

accordance with Bangalore University guidelines and syllabi. The change

has incorporated the latest developments. Teachers are equipped to face

the new challenges i.e., in their subject. They also are facilitated to

participate in various seminars and workshops.

ä As this college is affiliated to Bangalore University, the

examination system followed is as per the University guidelines

and regulations.

T An effective blood donation programme at the betallion level was

organized in the college, 113 units of blood were donated to Kidwai

Hospital, Bangalore and 20 units to Command Hospital, AirForce,

Bangalore.

T 39 NCC-Army Cadets were sent to First Aid training classes. It was

organized by St. John’s Ambulance Association, Bangalore.

T The NCC-Army of this College had organized a Traffic Control

Training Programme in which a few cadets of our college

underwent a training for 5 days

(24)Computerization of administration, process of admission, examination,

results and issue of certificates :

� Salary has been computerized- ECS mode of Salary disbursement

has been adopted.

� Computerization is in progress and it will start from 2006-07.

� Admission process is computerized.

(25) Increase in infrastructure facilities :

i. The College building is under the maintenance of the State Public

Works’ Department. It has taken several steps to provide basic

necessities for the teaching and non teaching staff. Apart from this, a

part of the funds is being invested on the renovation of the existing

building.

ii. The College auditorium has been extended and renovated with

generous donation of Rs. 2 Lakhs by MLC Sri. M.Krishnappa.

iii. Jain Group has donated 200 Chairs worth Rs.50,000/-

iv. With these improvements, the auditorium is now fit to conduct

seminars and workshops. The College has a ‘Film Appreciation Club’

which aims at screening the ‘Best Movies’ of the World. The

auditorium is fit for screening such movies.

v. The Environmental Science Laboratory has been established with

generous donations from Philanthropists. The total sum received for

this purpose is around Rs. 70,000/-

vi. At the departmental level, the improvements in the infrastructure is

as follows.

_ Computerization of the existing Library is in process.

_ A few departments in the college are well equipped with hi-tech

audio visual teaching aids like PPP.

Computer Systems.

� Computer facilities have been provided to all PG Departments of the

College.

(30) Activities and support from the Parent-Teachers Association :

a Many Teachers have been financing poor students for their education

and personal needs.

a Some of the parents have contributed essential items to the college.

l The College has subscribed to various Health Magazines to create

health awareness.

l NSS and NCC Units regularly organize blood donation camps.

l A couple of lectures pertaining to Health Awareness have been

organized.

(35) Activities of Career Guidance & Counselling Unit :

þ 3 Lectures have been organized for the students in career

guidance and entrepreneurship.

þ A Campus interview in the form of a written test was organized

for the students of Mathematics of IV Semester MSc. Around

45 candidates participated in the interview. The Collaboration

was with ‘Career forum-MBA entrance’.

þ 24 students were sent to the off campus interview held at

MSCW Bangalore-01, by IBM-India Pvt. Ltd. One candidate

has been selected in the interview.

þ A few more career guidance lectures will be organized in due

course in the college premises.

þ The institution has a ‘counselling wing’ apart from a career

guidance cell. The wing contains expert personnel who have

undergone 3 weeks training at NIMHANS. The training

focused on problems pertaining to adolascent stress, psycho-

somatic disorders, sexuality, peer pressure, examination fear

etc. The counselors are expected to identify diffidence, stress

and other personal problems among students in order to

counsel them. Problems range from peer pressure, financial to

identity-building issues. So far many students have benefited

improved socially and academically through this counseling

cell.

(36) Placement services provided to students :

A few departments which offer post graduate courses especially have

regularly arranged campus interviews. Certain UG departments like

computer science etc. have also organized campus interviews. Several

students have been placed in prestigious organizations like BIOCON, IBM,

INFOSYS, EDUCAMP, SAMI, GANGAGEN, INDICOM SOFT etc.

(37)Development Programs for Non-teaching staff :

§ Total Quality Management (TQM) Training was arranged for non-

teaching staff by The Commissioner of Collegiate Education.

§ Computer Training was given for selected staff members.

(38) Healthy Practices of the Institution :

a The College has a ‘Theatre Appreciation Club’ meant for training

interested students in the following areas :

· Acting

· Direction

· Music

· Choreography

· Lighting Design

· Properties.

a The College staff of both the teaching & non-teaching departments

have actively participate in the theatre club activities.

a Ethnic Day is being organized every year in college to create an

awareness about our rich heritage.

a A few members of the faculty were invited as translation experts for

SLET exams from Kuvempu University.

a Various competitions have been held at the college level to inculcate.

cultural values and a healthy competitive spirits among the

students.

a Healthy events like wall poster keeping, news plate keeping, have

been conducted. Tours have been arranged to NGO establishments.

a 2 NCC Army Cadets have been declared best cadetsat camps.

a A few teaching staff have been invited as resource persons by various

institutions.

a The institution brings out a tri-monthly college newsletter called

‘Savi’.

a The institution has 7 recognized research guides. They are guiding

MPhil and Ph.D degrees, being awarded from different universities

like BUB, PRIDE, Bhartidasan University, Kuvempu University.

a Several research publications have come out from the Institution in

various national and international journals.

National / International Conferences, Workshops, Seminars,

Symposia etc.

(39) Linkages developed with National / International, Academics /

Research bodies :

¥ Indira Gandhi National Open University study centre has been

functioning in our institution. Our college is sharing the resources of

IGNOU study centre i.e. CD’s, TV, Sound system, Study Material etc.,

reciprocally, we have provided laboratory facilities etc.

¥ The institution is proud to declare that it has been recognized as one

of the centers for ‘EDUSAT’ programme to be launched in

collaborator with ISRO and VTU.

¥ The department of Biotechnology of our college has signed MOU with

Integrated Bio-technology Extension (IBX) to carry research activities

in the Department. The project run under this MOU is “purification

& Characterization of proteases from soil bacteria”
