Market Analysis



Three main fields:

- Industrial (spot welders, immobile arms)

- Service (defense, drones, UAVs, UGVs)

- Personal (Roombas)

Winners:

- Anyone who can combine technological gains with high

growth sectors (Microsoft Kinect onto a Roomba)

- Anyone who can address pressing needs in defense and

medical industries

Losers:

- Anyone, company or individual, whose doesn’t respond to

the technological advances wrt robotics to update, speed up,

or automate their processes.

- By 2030, there will be about 72.1 million older persons, more

than twice their number in 2000.

-People over 60 spent more than any other age group in the

year ended March; estimated 109 trillion yen ($1.4 trillion

- Accounted for 44 percent of consumption

- A test case of how a modern retail economy can switch from

focusing on traditional, younger customers

- “The elderly people buy things that have value even if the

price is high. They are the group which has that financial

power.”

- Daiei, based in Tokyo, is slowing escalators to two-thirds of

the speed of regular ones and employing lighter, aluminum

shopping carts

Aging Demographic



Robots are the solution to extending the time in which the

elderly can live independently in their own homes.

Robots could allow caregivers to monitor patients from afar,

they could remind people to take their (correct) medications

on time, lift simple objects, or even transport heavy items.

The more robots there are, the less pressure there will be on

the shrinking human workforce to care for elderly citizens.

Value Proposition



- The robot is purchased for Frank by his son, who has a

family and no time to visit / take care of Frank

- Frank, who has dementia, is initially hostile and resistant to

the robot

- The robot cooks, cleans and provides companionship and

mental stimulation for Frank

providers; aging or disabled individuals) all have similar goals:

- to empower those with special needs

- to provide peace of mind to all of the stakeholders

A combination of several features onto a successful

platform at high production volumes will make that robot

cost-effective, widely available and sufficient to the need

of an aging population without being a drag on the

economy or the available workforce.

Currently a winner-take-all market with high risk-reward

for VCs. A solution is needed sooner rather than later

and senior acceptance must be accounted for every step

of the way.
