Graduate Software Development EngineerOleo International is seeking a graduate software development engineer whowill work alongside our team of software development engineers, engineeringanalysts, mathematicians, and project managers developing solutions andservices for the rail, elevator and industrial sectors.

You will be working within a department that is focused on research anddevelopment. We don’t just build products, we also build solutions torigorously test them both physically and mathematically. We are alwayslooking for new technology that allows us to improve our understanding and todeliver greater product knowledge to our customers. Here’s a sneak peek atthe kind of work we do…

OLEO 1DOleo 1D is a web application that allows for the simulation of train impacts inone dimension, meaning that the software is focused on the combined effectsof couplers, buffers, anti climbers and the crush behaviours of vehicle ends. Itallows the customer to produce detailed graphing of the effects of the impacton each of the trains vehicles and connecting interfaces. The software inputsare flexible so that customers can quickly design and simulate a solution forvarious collision scenarios according to their needs.

The web based application was created out of a desire to open up our existingdesktop software simulation tool to a wider audience online. Our goal was todevelop the web app such that we could make it easier for users of any levelof technical expertise to get a result that’s meaningful to them. The basis ofthis system was also later expanded to allow users to simulate variousindustrial uses of Oleo hydraulic devices (such as in cranes). The system waslaunched in 2013 and a second iteration is currently in development.

Future Development…1D v2 development is currentlyunderway, it’s not too late tomake your mark and help usexpand our a marketing leadingsimulation software

OLEO 2DOleo 2D is a multi-body dynamic simulation software in which detailed threedimensional models of vehicles are created, including geometric details of keycomponents, suspension characteristics and energy management elements such ascouplers, buffers, anti-climbers and crush zones. Oleo’s 2D Rail can create models, including vehicle misalignment, to simulate the vertical movement to analyse vehicleoverriding tendencies, this analysis of vertical movement gives us the seconddimension to our simulation results that cannot be achieved in Oleo 1D, but thiscomes at a cost of increased complexity, and of course it’s not web based.

TESTING & SIMULATION

Oleo Test TowerTo test our elevator buffers webuilt a 33 metre tall testing towerat our head quarters in Coventry.Visible for miles around it is thetallest such facility in the world

Oleo 2D has been developed as proprietary plug in modules for Adams, a wellestablished platform for Multi Body Dynamics (MBD) simulation for rail applications.Research is currently on-going to bring 3D modelling to our web based solutions.

Oleo has a long history of testing and simulating the performance of its gas hydraulicunits for rail and industrial applications and has been involved in the testing of fullsize buffers and hydraulic energy absorbers for over forty years. A full size indoorimpact rig called the “Titan Rig”, designed and built by Oleo at our factory inCoventry, is used to assist in validating the mathematical models we use in oursimulation products. Two 30 tonne vehicles fitted with energy absorption devicesimpact at up to 20km/h. Typically impact velocity, impact force and energy absorberdisplacement are measured and the data is captured using high speed dataacquisition equipment. In addition Oleo has endurance rigs to test the longevity ofunits and sub-systems, an environmental chamber for testing buffers at temperaturesdown to -60 degrees C and an accelerated corrosion testing facility.

The benefits of working with Oleo

• Competitive salary • Hours of work: Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 5.00pm and Friday 8.30am to 1.30pm• 33 days holiday per year, including bank, pro rata• Employer contributory pension scheme• Free life assurance• Flexi time post 3-month probationary period

Based at our head office in Coventry

Candidates should apply to [email protected] enclosing cover letter and CV

Applicants must have the unrestricted right to work in the UK on a permanent basis
