The 6th Grand Prix Pattaya choir festival and compe-tition is one of the Festa Musicale choral event which is growing up every year. This year, choirs from 6 countries came to Thailand to compete in 11 competition catego-ries of the Grand Prix Competition.
I am sure that all performances will be well received here and that experiences of participating choirs in Thai-land will also extend far beyond the stage. I would like to wish all the participants a pleasant and memorable stay in Thailand - Land of Smiles.

JURY MEMBERS
Grace Echauri (Mexico)The young Mexican mezzo-soprano Grace Echauri was born in
Guadalajara and at a very early age, she made her operatic debut there as Maddalena in Rigoletto with the Guadalajara Opera. She has appeared at the Palacio de Bellas Artes as Isabella in L’Italiana in Algeri, Azucena in Il Trovatore, La Gran Duqesa in Alicia, and Soledad in La Mulata de Cordoba. Ms. Echauri received the presti-gious MOZART AWARD by the Austrian Embassy in Mexico in recognition of her excellent musicianship, which she especially demonstrated in her six CDs of contemporary operatic and sym-phonic music. In April 2005, Ms. Echauri sang Amneris in Aida
with the Bangkok Opera, and in September 2005 she sang in the world premiere of Mae Naak by Somtow Sucharitkul.
Masashi Kishimoto (Japan)Dr. Masashi Kishimoto is a Director of Choral Activities and
vocal faculty at Rangsit University in Thailand. He is a native of Akashi, Japan, received his Master of Fine Arts in Vocal Per-formance from the Osaka College of Music in Osaka, Japan; a vocal performance diploma from the Tirol State Conservatory in Innsbruck, Austria; and the Master of Arts in Choral Conducting from Mansfield University, USA. Doctor of Musical Arts in Cho-ral Conducting from North Dakota State University, USA.
He has performed as a soloist throughout the world, including the Japanese National Anthem for the Rugby World Cup 2003 in Australia; also with numerous ensembles in competitions, placing
first at the International Chamber Choir Competition in Belgium, International Competi-tion in the Czech Republic, the World Choir Games in Graz, Austria, Zadar International Choir Competition, Croatia.
Dr. Kishimoto has served as a selected member of the Japan Youth Choir, Asian Youth Choir, Asian Pacific Youth Choir, the Festival Ensemble Stuttgart, Germany, where he per-formed Britten’s War Requiem under Helmuth Rilling in 2010, and one of sixteen singers to perform at the Minnesota Beethoven Music Festival under the direction of Dale Warland.
He was invited to guest–conduct the Pachuca Music Festival 2009, Mexico, Asian You-th Choir 2010 in Philippines, and assistant director of Japan National Youth Choir 2013. He received ACDA Richard Kegerreis Scholarship to attend ACDA national convention 2009 in Oklahoma city, USA.

Alberto Firrincieli (Italy)He began to play the piano when he was eight. He studied with
Sebastiano Cannizzo in ”Vincenzo Bellini” Conservatory, Calta-nissetta (Italy) and graduated at the age of twenty. Then he started to dedicate himself to the study of ancient keyboard instruments: organs and harpsichords, graduating in Harpsichord with Maria Pia Jacoboni. Meanwhile he studied Composition with Giorgio Tosi, and Electronic Music with Francesco Giomi and Marco Biscarini at the ”Arrigo Boito” Conservatory in Parma (Italy), where he gra-duated. He continued his education, graduating in Musicology in the University of Pavia (Italy). He also studied Harpsichord with Fran-cesco Baroni, and for four years attended the course ”Ars et Labor”, an advanced Piano and Chamber Music Course, with Christa Bützberger and Marina Rossi in Vicenza (Italy). During these studies he attended masterclasses with Enrico Baiano, Bob van Asperen, Michele Barchi and Emilia Fadini.
He has performed in many recitals for important institutions in Europe and Asia, such as the Apostolic Nunciature and the Italian Embassy; he has played with different ensembles, from baroque to modern, including music for two harpsichords with the Novecembalo Ensemble, and ancient music with Baroque Me Baby, blending ”Histori-cal Performance Practice” with new ways of understanding the art of music. He regular-ly plays basso continuo for many chamber music groups and orchestras, and plays piano or harpsichord in solo recitals and with orchestras.
He is the founding conductor of Assumption University Gregorian Chant Choir (AUGCC), and conductor of the Siam Rathadapisek Chamber Orchestra (SRCO). He also dedicates himself to modern composition using computers and new technologies.
He is currently full-time lecturer of the Department of Music Performance at the As-sumption University of Thailand, where he teaches Harpsichord, Piano, Counterpoint and History of Western Music, amongst other subjects. He also teaches Piano and Harpsichord at Yamaha Kolkarn Music School, Bangkok and he has been invited as Guest Lecturer by Thammasart University.

Voices of the South Children’s Choir (VSCC) is a community-based choir in Davao City, Philippines, composed of children from different schools aged between 9 - 15. It was founded in 2011. Some of the VSCC members were finalists of the 2010 National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) under a school choir who competed in the Cultural Center of the Philippines. VSCC was declared as a national qualifier and semi-finalist for 2011 and 2012 MBC National Choral Competition. The choir also won the 3rd place in the 2012 Himig Handog Competition, Musikahan sa Tagum National Competition. In March 2012, VSCC was among the awardees of the Davao City Mayor and Vice Mayor’s Award for Cultural and Arts for its role in the development of music among the children in the city. VSCC joined local competitions such as Abreeza’s Melo-dies and Harmonies Christmas Choral Competition and Panaygon, Pasko Fiesta sa Dabaw last December 2012. The choir won the 1st prize for both the said competitions. VSCC is currently directed by the choir director of the 2009 NAMCYA Choir-C Champion and a member of the Philippine Choral Directors Association, Mr. Peter Ian C. Buaya.

The BONIFANTES Boys’ Choir was founded in 1999 and has won a place among the cream of the choir ensembles in the Czech Republic in its short life. Talented boys aged between 4 to 18 work in 7 departments of the singing school known as ”BONI-FANTES School of Arts”. Almost 100 boys visit the concert department alone and the choir takes part in up to 100 concerts and performances each year. Among the successes achieved so far are a number of concert tours (Germany, UK, France, Austria, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Slovenia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovakia and USA) and performances in operas and films. The choir performs with Czech orchestras annually. The choir has taken part in 6 international competitions at which it has been awarded with 11 gold and 4 silver medals, 3 titles of competition prize-winner, and a prize for outstanding conducting performance for the choirmaster.
Between most distinguished successes belong 1st prize ”CUM LAUDE” at the Euro-pean Choir Festival in Neerpelt and the title of overall winner at the Festival of Songs Olomouc 2004 ahead of another 159 competitors. Artistic guidance to the BONIFANT-ES Boys’ Choir is provided by its founder, Mr. Jan Míšek.

Solfeggio Choir formed in 1990 based on the desire to sing along with the students who studied in State University of Medan. This choir is one of the units that are student acti-vities at the State University of Medan. Solfeggio Choir Adapted from the words heard, felt, read and play, then Solfeggio Choir inculcate it in each member therein. The choir that has stood ± 23 years has been a lot of regeneration. A large number of singer mem-bers joined and performed with a variety of song selection by Mr. Lamhot Sihombing that acts as a coach‘s Choir. Solfeggio Choir has the vision and mission to serve and lead to the professional stage. The choir is not engaged in the spiritual only, but in all aspects of society through government events. Recent achievements obtained are: Champion of Gospel-Spiritual Category at Bandung International Choir Competition (2011), Champion of Female Choir Category at Bali International Choir Competition (2012).

Founded in 2004, Nafiri Male Choir (NMC) is a male choir under the auspices of Preaching Council of Huria Kristen Batak Protestan (HKBP) Church of Pondok Bambu, Jakarta. By now, NMC have 25 members and a female musician. Their motto is ”Sing the glory of his name, make his praise glorious (Psalm 66:2)”. Their activities and main achievements are Servicing for HKBP Church of Pondok Bambu, 1st Winner of Male Choir Category in the 2005 and 2006 at the Ecclesiastical Choir Festival of HKBP Pasar Rebo, Silver Medal in the 2006 and 2011 Choir Festival of ITB, Bronze Medal in the 2009 International Choir Festival of Tomohon, Silver Medal in the 2012 Jakarta Male Choir Festival. The choir performed a solo concert in the Concerto on Summer Night Dream in 2007. NMC recorded a CD.

Gunadarma University Choir „Swara Darmagita“ was officially established in 1989. The choir has grown and developed ever since that time. Now, 24 years later, it is a 40 strong mixed choir, with a significant background of achievement and motivation. Between 1991 and 2007, the choir was let by Ms. Carli Laturiuw. During that time, Swara Darmagita participated in numerous concerts and performances as well as various choral competitions and also parti-cipated in the opening of the National Association of Private Broadcasting Radio Indonesias National Conference at Hotel Indonesia, which was attended by the former President Prof. Dr. Ing. B. J. Habibie. From 2007 to 2012, Swara Darmagita was led by Ida Bagus Putu Yogi who led the choir to win numerous achievements at provincial, national, and regional levels. Prestigious achievements included: winning The Second Gold Medal in the First Asian Choir Games (2007), 1st Place in National Heroic Song Contest for Higher Education Institution in Jakarta (2010), and being awarded 1st Place in the National Folklore Festival held by Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia. Since the end of 2012, PSM University Gunadarma „Swara Darmagita“ has been fortunate to be coached by Benjamin Franklin Manumpil.

Mixed choir Viva was established in 1992 by the conductor Simona Rožman Strnad, who has held this position up to this day. Constant competition achievements and invitations to various pla-ces bring the choir energy and enthusiasm which keeps encouraging the singers to give their best. The choir Viva concerted in Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Germany, Canada, Switzerland and France. In 2005, they won the 1st prize at the competition in Lithuania. In 2007, they attended the choral competition in Preveza, Greece, and won the gold medal. Their repertoire includes a rich variety of choral literature: sacral compositions, folk songs arrangements and secular compositions, origina-ting from various stylistic periods. They are also very fond of young composers’ innovations as well as those from established Slovenian composers. They participated in Carl Orff’s cantata Carmina Burana project with international contribution and concerts in Germany and Slovenia in 2010. The last great project so far has been the participation at the Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 in E-flat major, also called the Symphony of a Thousand, under the conductor’s baton of Valerij Gergijev. The event took place in July 2011 in collaboration with Slovenian and Croatian prestige amateur and professi-onal choirs, carefully chosen soloists, and the orchestras of Slovenian and Zagreb Philharmonics.

The Kuang Ching Chorus is a mixed group founded in 1980. Several disabled young-sters resided at the Kuang-Tsu Orphange, the counselors and some students for the first time has sung together. In addition to annual performances, KCC has performed at various cultural events and benevolent activities, and has won great admiration. Always seeking to enrich the choral art and encourage others through the music are the main goals. KCC started its first overseas performance at the Rotary Annual Convention1988 in Philadel-phia, Unites States. From 1998, KCC had attended choral competitions in Japan, Beijing, and Xiamen. In 2000, KCC won the first gold medal in the 5th China International Chorus Contest, then in The World Choir Games 2006, Xiamen and The21st Century International Choral Festival, Souchou, 2008 KCC got silver and gold medal awards respectively. Kuang Ching Chorus love singing and sharing joy of life with friends from all over the world!

Solfeggio Choir formed in 1990 based on the desire to sing along with the students who studied in State University of Medan. This choir is one of the units that are student acti-vities at the State University of Medan. Solfeggio Choir Adapted from the words heard, felt, read and play, then Solfeggio Choir inculcate it in each member therein. The choir that has stood ± 23 years has been a lot of regeneration. A large number of singer mem-bers joined and performed with a variety of song selection by Mr. Lamhot Sihombing that acts as a coach‘s Choir. Solfeggio Choir has the vision and mission to serve and lead to the professional stage. The choir is not engaged in the spiritual only, but in all aspects of society through government events. Recent achievements obtained are: Champion of Gospel-Spiritual Category at Bandung International Choir Competition (2011), Champion of Female Choir Category at Bali International Choir Competition (2012).

Gunadarma University Choir „Swara Darmagita“ was officially established in 1989. The choir has grown and developed ever since that time. Now, 24 years later, it is a 40 strong mixed choir, with a significant background of achievement and motivation. Between 1991 and 2007, the choir was let by Ms. Carli Laturiuw. During that time, Swara Darmagita participated in numerous concerts and performances as well as various choral competitions and also parti-cipated in the opening of the National Association of Private Broadcasting Radio Indonesias National Conference at Hotel Indonesia, which was attended by the former President Prof. Dr. Ing. B. J. Habibie. From 2007 to 2012, Swara Darmagita was led by Ida Bagus Putu Yogi who led the choir to win numerous achievements at provincial, national, and regional levels. Prestigious achievements included: winning The Second Gold Medal in the First Asian Choir Games (2007), 1st Place in National Heroic Song Contest for Higher Education Institution in Jakarta (2010), and being awarded 1st Place in the National Folklore Festival held by Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia. Since the end of 2012, PSM University Gunadarma „Swara Darmagita“ has been fortunate to be coached by Benjamin Franklin Manumpil.

Mixed choir Viva was established in 1992 by the conductor Simona Rožman Strnad, who has held this position up to this day. Constant competition achievements and invitations to various places bring the choir energy and enthusiasm which keeps encouraging the singers to give their best. The choir Viva concerted in Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Germany, Canada, Switzerland and France. In 2005, they won the 1st prize at the competition in Lithuania. In 2007, they attended the choral competi-tion in Preveza, Greece, and won the gold medal. Their repertoire includes a rich variety of choral literature: sacral compositions, folk songs arrangements and secular compositions, originating from various stylistic periods. They are also very fond of young composers’ innovations as well as those from established Slovenian composers. They participated in Carl Orff’s cantata Carmina Burana project with international contribution and concerts in Germany and Slovenia in 2010. The last great project so far has been the participation at the Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 in E-flat major, also called the Symphony of a Thousand, under the conductor’s baton of Valerij Gergijev. The event took place in July 2011 in collaboration with Slovenian and Croatian prestige amateur and professional choirs, carefully chosen soloists, and the orchestras of Slovenian and Zagreb Philharmonics.

The Kuang Ching Chorus is a mixed group founded in 1980. Several disabled young-sters resided at the Kuang-Tsu Orphange, the counselors and some students for the first time has sung together. In addition to annual performances, KCC has performed at vari-ous cultural events and benevolent activities, and has won great admiration. Always seeking to enrich the choral art and encourage others through the music are the main goals. KCC started its first overseas performance at the Rotary Annual Convention1988 in Philadelphia, Unites States. From 1998, KCC had attended choral competitions in Japan, Beijing, and Xiamen. In 2000, KCC won the first gold medal in the 5th Chi-na International Chorus Contest, then in The World Choir Games 2006, Xiamen and The 21st Century International Choral Festival, Souchou, 2008 KCC got silver and gold medal awards respectively. Kuang Ching Chorus love singing and sharing joy of life with friends from all over the world!

The Orpheus Chamber Choir a newly formed chorus of hand-picked singers from Opera Siam. Each singer has been selected for his or her ability to sing in different sty-les, and the group exists to perform at special functions with varying repertoire. Formed in 2013, the Orpheus Chamber Choir looks forward to a season of exploration and expe-rimentation to find a unique, yet versatile sound. The singers of the Orpheus Chamber Choir have all sung in different operas and musicals with Opera Siam, such as Mae Naak, Otello, The Silent Prince, Reya, and more.

SHU-TE GLEE CLUB was formed in March 2013 from SHU-TE University Perfor-ming Arts Department in Taiwan. Assistant Professor Shan-Min Yu is the music director of the chorus. Ms. Yu wants to gather students who love choral art and perform some of the everyone‘s favorite songs and diverse repertoire. After a rigorous selection and trai-ning, students are able to perform at professional stages of choir arts. In 2006, SHU-TE University Performing Arts Department approved to set up an enrollment for students of the Taiwan domestic initiative integrating video, music, dance and drama of professional performing arts series, aimed at training fashion professionals performing arts industry, as well as the stage, screen performance or production work of senior professionals.

Founded in 2004, Nafiri Male Choir (NMC) is a male choir under the auspices of Preaching Council of Huria Kristen Batak Protestan (HKBP) Church of Pondok Bambu, Jakarta. By now, NMC have 25 members and a female musician. Their motto is ”Sing the glory of his name, make his praise glorious (Psalm 66:2)”. Their activities and main achievements are Servicing for HKBP Church of Pondok Bambu, 1st Winner of Male Choir Category in the 2005 and 2006 at the Ecclesiastical Choir Festival of HKBP Pasar Rebo, Silver Medal in the 2006 and 2011 Choir Festival of ITB, Bronze Medal in the 2009 International Choir Festival of Tomohon, Silver Medal in the 2012 Jakarta Male Choir Festival. The choir performed a solo concert in the Concerto on Summer Night Dream in 2007. NMC recorded a CD.
