NANOCOMPOSITES AND PRODUCTION

Dear participant Welcome to the Composites Europe 2016 in Düsseldorf and the Graphene Connect workshop on Nanocomposites and Production.

The aim of the workshop is to create a platform for industry and academia to meet and share the latest Graphene Flagship research, an insight to industry demands in this field and to find collaboration partners for new projects.

As a participant you will not only learn more about how graphene can improve your products but also build new R&D contacts that could be the starting point for future graphene innovation projects.

The workshop features seven guest speakers of leading brands and will cover opportunities and challenges in light-weight and multi-functional material, protective coatings and large scale graphene production to guide you into the future. Besides listening to hands-on experience from leading brands, you will engage in group discussion and networking sessions tailored to your needs and interests.

We will all prosper from open vivid discussions, and hope you take an active part in this with us. Looking forward to meeting you!

Sophie CharpentierIndustry relation manager in the Innovation team

4 Graphene Connect

Vincenzo PalermoVincenzo Palermo is the leader of the research unit on Advanced Materials of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), at the Institute for Organic Synthesis and Photoreactivity (ISOF) as well as the leader of the Graphene Flagship’s work package on Polymer Composites. He holds a

Ph.D. in Chemistry, from the University of Bologna.

Kari HjeltKari Hjelt is the Graphene Flagship’s Head of In-novation. He has extensive experience in building up corporate research and venture activities from being the founder and CEO of several start-up companies, as well as director at Nokia Ventures Organisation and Nokia Research Centre. He holds a PhD in Engineering Physics from Helsinki University of Technology, as well as an MBA from the London Business School.

César Merino SánchezCésar Merino Sánchez is the head of the department “ACM Advanced Carbon Materials” of Grupo Antolin Ingeniería, SA. ACM is producing GANF carbon nanofibers for polymer composites by so-called “floating catalyst technique” and is producing graphene related materials since 2011. The graphene related materials of Grupo Antolin are commercialized under the registered trade mark GRAnPH.

5 Graphene Connect

Ray GibbsRay Gibbs is the Chief Executive Officer of Haydale Graphene Industries Plc. He has over 20 years’ experience in high technology and fast moving consumer goods businesses and has been immersed into the graphene and nano world for 5 years. An accomplished international speaker now seen at many Graphene conferences, Ray offers a rare insight into industry and the ability to make the bridge with the academic world.

Julio GomezJulio Gomez is the Founder of AVANZARE, company producer of graphene and other 2D materials and its composites . He holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry (2000) from University of La Rioja after which he spent 3 years as assistant Professor in Universi-dad de La Rioja and 2 years as an Area Manager

in the research centre CIDETEC studying electro-chemical systems.

Siva BöhmSiva Böhm is Chief Technology Officer at Talga Advanced Materials Gmbh, Germany/Talga Technologies Ltd. He holds a PhD in Chemistry/Electrochemistry from the University of Bath. He has held several research positions at different academic institutions and has 16 years of industrial research experience (Tata Steel & Tata Group) in various fields.

6 Graphene Connect

Gordon FernGordon Fern is the SAFENANO Section Head where he leads the group in developing and providing Scientific Services in exposure assess-ment, particle characterisation, toxicology, risk assessment and training to support innovation and commercialisation of novel materials. He is a Chartered Chemist and Chartered Scientist with a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry. He spent 16 years in the chemical industry working for the large multi-nationals Diageo, Ciba and BASF.
