Green Technology- “To change the way we live”
2
What is Green Technology?
Environmental technology or “green technology” is the application of the environmental science to conserve the natural environment and resources, and by curbing the negative impacts on human involvement
33
HISTORY
The importance of green technology was made evident when computing attained critical mass in the year 1990s. The late 1990s and early 2000 witnessed many regulatory milestones and the recent years witness companies innovating to incorporate green technology.

The 7 R’s of Green Technology:

WONDERS OF GREEN TECHNOLOGY
66
The most impressive feature of the new Bahrain World Trade Center is, no doubt, the three massive wind turbines situated between the two towers comprising the main building. Each of these 80-foot turbines projects from a bridge between towers.
7
CIS Tower, Manchester England. Was covered in mosaic tiles, which with photovoltaic panels turned grey due to pollution. Tiles replaced, costing £5.5 million. Began feeding National Grid in 2005.
8
Why are companies choosing to go Green?
Because people are requesting environmental technologies
Example: hybrid versus non-hybrid most people want the hybrid for a variety of reasons
Green is a trend that is going to be around for a while. It will stay important as long as climate change is an issue
9
GREEN BUILDINGGreen Building is the practice of increasing the efficiency of buildings and their use of energy, water and materials and reducing building impacts on human health and the environment through better design, construction, operation, maintenance and removal - the complete building life cycle.

How people can contribute to Green Building:
Think smallHeat with the sunUse renewable energyConserve waterUse local/natural materialsRecycle materials

Green Energy Companies in India
1. Suzlon Energy: Suzlon is of course the first company that comes to mind. They are one of the leading wind energy companies in India that is one of the better known alternative energy companies in India.
12 12
2. Orient Green Power Limited: This is a company that recently had its IPO, and is primarily engaged in the Wind and Biomass energy space. Currently wind constitutes the majority of their energy portfolio, so this is another one of India’s wind energy companies.

Solar PowerHeat Transfer
•oil in a pipe is heated, then runs through reservoir of water. Heat from oil causes water to boils, creating steam which
turns turbines.Photovoltaic (common solar panel)
•photons from sunlight knock electrons into higher sates of energy causing potential voltage difference (electricity).
14
Water Power: HydroelectricityRivers are dammed, and water is released slowly
Force of rushing water creates electricity
Environmental concerns of building dams
15
Wind
Wind rotates turbines to create electricity.
Has potential to take over all of our electricity needs (on 13% of all land area)
16
Geothermal
Pipes are routed near geothermal activity. Boiling creates steam, which turns turbines.
17
Driving Trends
Since 1770, miles increased 150% while population increased 40%
200 million vehicles in the U.S.
700 million in the world
By 2008, one million hybrid gas-electric cars in the U.S.
18
Total Impact of Green Vehicles
Smaller, lighter cars
Fewer materials
Decreases emissions
Eases environmental impact
No proven reduction in car’s safety!
19
Health EffectsAutomobile pollutants have an impact on health and the environment
Respiratory problems
Impair the body’s immune system
Increase a person’s risk of cancer
Birth defects, low birth weight, deaths
Asthma
20
Benefits
Reduces local air pollution
Offsets greenhouse gases
Conserves energy
Reduces the need for dry-cell battery disposal
21
ConclusionMore and more corporations are jumping on the green bandwagon.
It’s trendyIt’s important! It’s good for the environmentIt saves companies moneyIt benefits our health
