Chetty last month pleaded guilty to the murder charge, admitting he had stabbed Rasmika 14 times in anger when she had told him she no longer wanted to continue their relationship. Regional Court magistrate Sibusiso Mn- gomezulu said in his summing up on Monday that he did not believe Chetty was genuinely remorseful. He said the post mortem and photographs had shown that Chetty subjected Rashmika to “inhumane treatment and extreme brutal- ity.” However the magistrate took into account that Chetty was only 18 at the time and that his youth might have contributed to his anger and lack of control. He said Chetty could be rehabilitated. The family said that justice had not been served with just a 12 year sentence. “We will fight in what ever way we can.” Shock at 12 years for daughter’s murder “W E are Greyto- nians too and we want our town and district to be safe and se- cure for all”. This is the message being put over by Lieutenant Colonel Caroline Minnaar, acting Greytown Cluster Command- er, together with acting Station Commander, Captain Nalesh Maharaj. Working together with Greytown police personnel, and security firms, there is a new enthusiastic and deter- mined service delivery ap- proach from all police person- nel. With a comprehensive net- working approach, the hope is that members of the public will also become more positive and supportive to stand together with the local police to make Greytown and surrounds a safe and secure area to live for all residents. Colonel Minnaar appeals to anyone who has information, or a problem with police ser- vice delivery to contact her at 082 515 8604 or Captain Ma- haraj at 082 556 8259. Greytown Police were on the scene when the Muden road was once again closed on Sat- urday night - together with lo- cal farmers they cleared one lane of the road early on Sun- day morning. Colonel Min- naar asked the Greytown Ga- zette to express thanks to a number of churchgoers, who despite the fact they were dressed in their suits for church, got out of their vehi- cles and continuously moved the rocks to enable vehicles to go through. This ongoing confrontation is largely due to the total disre- gard of the government and provincial departments in- volved which have procrasti- nated for years. This current blockade is in protest against the lack of service delivery which triggers off the frustra- tion of the residents con- cerned. Colonel Minnaar said that there is a monthly meeting in Durban with the Department of Land Affairs - but having travelled to Durban to attend the last meeting the chairman postponed it because Depart- ment staff members who were due to report on Muden and other problem areas had not turned up, showing total dis- regard to all concerned. With the blocking of the road, Greytown Police are looking into implementing the high court interdict issued and confirmed by the Pietermar- itzburg High Court in April this year. In terms of the interdict, Zimbambele community members are restrained from any actions such as blockading the road, access and destruc- tion of crops, property and ani- mals etc on lot 19and entering any section other than that on which the community lives. “We want GREYTOWN safe and secure too” How does your garden not grow? GREYTOWN has always been re- nowned for its beautiful gardens created by talented local residents. But what must they, and visitors to the town, think as they view the ‘beautification’ of the town through street corner gardens. All this to the cost of ratepayers. If a professional consultant was used it was a totally unjustified expense when there are not only such knowledgeable Greytonians, but professional nursery personnel as well, all of whom know local conditions and what will grow or not.

Sir,YOUR front page article from last week’s

edition regarding the King Edward VII Parkfencingrefers. I takeexceptiontothenegativeslant of your report and as a long-sufferingresident of the area for the past 30 years, Iwould like to state unequivocally - well doneto the Municipality.

To quote from your article, “Thiswill affecthundredsof residentsandvisitorswho, sevendaysof theweekduring theday, andatnight.”

Yes, hopefully itwill affect them, andus theresidents, but in a positive way. Having beeninvolved in countless discussions with resi-dents and officials, both from the municipaland policing forums over the years about thisproblem child, an overriding message hascome through consistently loud and clear -if we can fence it, we can manage it. I knowI speak for most residents of the area whenI applaud the Municipality for finally doingsomething to try and develop a public facilitythat can now at last be managed and policedproperly.

After years of stress, noise, littering, bla-tant drug and alcohol abuse, sex-in-the-bushes, meetings with officials and frequentphone-calls to the police, this is the least weas ratepayers can expect. Your negative re-porting frankly astoundsme. Perhapswe canfinally live in relative peace.

Thank you, thank you and thank you againMunicipality. All you need to do now is to fol-low through and administer the facility in acontrolled manner as per your mandate.

Park fence a good thing

OUR open day at the Hermanns-burg Little Oaks' Kindergarten isa huge hit year after year.

This is the day on which ourmoms, dads (or other familymem-bers) get to spend the day with usat school, andwherewealso invitenew friends who might be inter-ested in joining our Kindergarten,to come and see how much funlearning can be.

Our teachers always surprise uswith new ideas and this year was

no different - this year's themewas 'GoodManners' and in the su-per-fungamesweplayed, our visi-tors had to ask each other for helpto bundle each of us into a blanketand race across the playground ina relay race and (obviously), say-ing 'please'and 'thankyou'wasanimportant part of it.

We practised setting the tableand also had fun showing our visi-torswhatwedoatmusicapprecia-tion lessons before we showed

them our work-books so that theycan see how much we havelearned.

A big highlight was when weshowed our visitorswhat happensinNumberland, andwegot tohearabout Number five, the Mayor ofNumberland, celebrating hisbirthday at his house in the penta-gon-shaped garden, and howNumber one could only get intoNumber five's house if he tookNumber four along ... so that they

add up to five, you see?The best part of open day is of

course story-time, where ourteachers and volunteer workersfrom Germany act out a story forus.

This year's favourite was Magi-cian Sebastian and, in this year'sstory about goodmanners and be-ing kind, Teacher Jamie wastaught a lessonby the other teach-ers about how it's not nice whenothers treat you unkindly - it's so

important always to say 'please'and 'thankyou', andnot tobe rudeand mean.

From all of us at the Little Oaks'Kindergarten, we say a big 'thankyou' to teachers Uta, Sonette, Ja-mie and Thembi, as well as ouramazing volunteer workers for asuper-fun open day, and also to allthe special people in our lives whocame to spend the day with us atschool.

Hermannsburg Little Oaks' Oracle

News from the hill

Being carried in blankets by the moms and dads, who had to say "please" and "thank you". A balancing act…with a little help.

EDITOR’SNOTE

Mr Wust appears to have missed the pointof the Greytown Gazette article whichwas: does the Municipality have any plan, programme or even outline as to how thegates are going to be operated to allowthe free flow of sports people and thosewith a legitimate reason to enter the parkto do so?The Greytown Gazette has, since the beginning of the year, requested the Municipality through the Gazette to inform thepublic of what will be required to accessand exit the park.To date, the only response received hasbeen a copy of a request from the Administrator to the Municipal manager datedlast week, requesting the MM to respond.Guess what? To date not a word, despitethe fact that the heads of departmentand councillors spent a three day workshop at the ratepayers expense at Riverside Inn in Durban to discuss municipalmatters, which for some unknown reasonscannot be discussed at a workshop inGreytown itself.

NOW if you remembered thewindy conditions of the week-endof14and15Juneyouwouldrather have become a wind-surfer or an around- the- worldsailor, because extreme anddangerouswindsblewover thatweekend. For the FarmersAgri-CareMonthlyMugplayersthe saying around the world in80 days was an apt expression,as they were blown around thecourse and none of the golfersgrossed less than 80 shots.

Some of the shots of the daywere recorded by an anony-mous golfer, putting four balls

in the dam on the 12th hole par4 - in Mug this can become avery expensive golfing outing, notonly ingolfballs, but inmed-al shots ….in the water for one, drop two…play three…in thewater drop four, play five….back in thewater……muttermutter, back to the golf bag, tofetch golf balls of course and in-spiration….back to thetee…..now where were we ?Drop six ….play sev-en…….back in the water, bor-row golf ball from partner (yetto be returned) drop eight andplay nine - now fellow golfersthat’s from the tee and now thetrek to the flag begins. The other cost of course is therounds of drinks to be boughtfor not making the ladiestee...and the golf partners new-ish PROV 1 is yet to be replacedand the balance of drinks to be

On Sunday the St Cathryn’steam travelled down to Mande-ni for the second leg of the Tri-angular against Mandeni andDarnall.Wewere all greeted bygolfers wearing shorts and al-though the oppositionwore jer-seys, remarking that it was achilly morning. We soonchanged fromour longs and thenoticeable temp changebrought some fairly good golfout from our players. Thecourse at Mandeni was dry andshouting for some irrigation

and twoof the greens had cattlegrazingandmoledamage.Nev-ertheless, the outing by the fiveSt Cathryn’s golfers and the ca-maraderie enjoyed and friendsmade was worth the trip. The result of the Triangular:1st Mandeni 34.5 points.2nd St Cathryn’s 33 points3rd Darnall 30.35 pointsThe best golfer on the day was Deonvan Dyk on 43 points.Dates to remember :Farmers Agri - Care MonthlyMug - Saturday, 5 July 2014Sanlam Cancer Challenge - Sat-urday, 26 July 2014.
