With a comprehensive net- working approach, the hope is that members of the public will also become more positive and supportive to stand together with the local police to make Greytown and surrounds a safe and secure area to live for all residents. Greytown Police were on the scene when the Muden road was once again closed on Sat- urday night - together with lo- cal farmers they cleared one lane of the road early on Sun- day morning. Colonel Min- naar asked the Greytown Ga- zette to express thanks to a number of churchgoers, who despite the fact they were dressed in their suits for church, got out of their vehi- cles and continuously moved the rocks to enable vehicles to go through. This ongoing confrontation is largely due to the total disre- gard of the government and provincial departments in- volved which have procrasti- nated for years. This current blockade is in protest against the lack of service delivery which triggers off the frustra- tion of the residents con- cerned. Colonel Minnaar said that there is a monthly meeting in Durban with the Department of Land Affairs - but having travelled to Durban to attend the last meeting the chairman postponed it because Depart- ment staff members who were due to report on Muden and other problem areas had not turned up, showing total dis- regard to all concerned. With the blocking of the road, Greytown Police are looking into implementing the high court interdict issued and confirmed by the Pietermar- itzburg High Court in April this year. In terms of the interdict, Zimbambele community members are restrained from any actions such as blockading the road, access and destruc- tion of crops, property and ani- mals etc on lot 19and entering any section other than that on which the community lives. “We want GREYTOWN safe and secure too” How does your garden not grow? THE Janthielayal family of Greytown ex-pressed their total shock at the 12 year sen-tence for Claudius Chetty, for the “brutal andinhumane” killing of their daughter Rashmi-ka last June on the FET Northdale campuswhere they were both students.

RapistfathersentencedA THIRTY year old man was sentenced to20 years imprisonment by the Pietermaritzburg Regional court this month for the rapeof his 13 year old daughter.
Living in the Kranskop area, the mothersent her daughter to take clothing to theaccused at his homestead. On arrival, theaccused invited his daughter to come insideand locked the door. He ordered the younggirl to undress and then raped her.
The victim was taken to a doctor and DNAtaken was linked to the father. She claimsthat he had previously raped her in 2012.
The magistrate imposed a 20 year sentence on 3 June.
THE finals of a very successful 2014tennis championships were playedover the weekend in perfect weath-er.
OnSunday, thewas excellent ten-nis played in the championship fi-nals. History was made when CliveEdkins not only won all three of hischampionship matches, but alsomade sure of a place in the recordbooks havingwon themen's singlestitle 20 times since 1983. He has al-so been in the mens doubles cham-pionships 27 times and the mixeddoubles title 23 times.
The men's final was a fast pacedmatch with both players startingwell and Clive Edkins beating Ash-ley Cotterrell -last year's winner-6-1 and 6-2.
In the ladies match, Erica Geversplayed against Corne Nefdt. Bothplayed good tennis and Erica wonthe match 6-2, 6-3. The ladies dou-bles championships were playedbetween mother and daughterteam Pam Paul and Carol Adendorfbeating apponents Erica Geversand Louise Hill 6-4; 6-3 . Themen'sdoubles match was another high-light of the day with Clive Edkinsand Paul Varty beating Ashley Cot-terrell and Ian Hill 7-5 and 6-4 ina nail biting finish. The mixed dou-bles final was superb tennis be-tween titleholders Clive andWendyEdkins and Dieter Meyer and LynnEnglish. The Edkins team won 6-2;6-1. Handicap final results will bepublishedonceall thematcheshavebeen played.
After all the matches wereplayed, chairperson Pierre Steynpresented the winners with theirtrophies, and prizes.
A special award was then made
to the Edkins family for their greatdedication,commitment and sup-port to the Greytown tennis clubover the years, with the main courtbeing named after them.
Thankyou to the ladies for thede-licious tea eats and toall the specta-tors who came to watch. Lastly, aday like this couldnotbe sucha suc-cess without the hard work of thecommitteemembers. years to the sport, the main courtwas named the "Edkins Court" at aspecial ceremony held at the Club'schampionship finals and prizegivingon Sunday. Wendy and Kelsey cut theribbon watched by Clive.

FAMILY and friends in South Africa andoverseas were devastated at the tragicnews of the death of Sharon Lawler in acar accident in Omam, Middle East on 16June.

A colleague, Annamma Oommen, at theEnglish Language Centre, Nizwa Collegeof Technology, sent the following tribute:
“The dynamic, clear, strong voice thatheld the audience captive, and trainedmany a public speaker in NCT, will beheard no more. It was a talented life cuttragically short in a car accident on Mon-daymorning,16June2014.Westandunit-ed ingrief and shock.A rare, energetic andcharmingperson,Sharonwasarefreshingand multitalented personality. She was aperson of extraordinary appeal whotouchedall thosearoundherwithherradi-ance of positive energy. Being family ori-ented, she loved and valuedher family andfriends. Besides being pleasant and a joytoworkwith, shewas a creative and genu-ine person. She loved her work, was pas-sionate about public speaking and coordi-nated the course with impeccable profes-sionalism. She was a take-charge person.She organized the annual public speakingcompetitions in NCTwith poise. A dedicat-ed and meticulous teacher, she set herstandardhigh.Adear friendandcolleaguethat she was, her loss is irreplaceable.”
A memorial service will be held on Fri-day, 27 June at 6pm at 28 York Street.

Yes, hopefully itwill affect them, andus theresidents, but in a positive way. Having beeninvolved in countless discussions with resi-dents and officials, both from the municipaland policing forums over the years about thisproblem child, an overriding message hascome through consistently loud and clear -if we can fence it, we can manage it. I knowI speak for most residents of the area whenI applaud the Municipality for finally doingsomething to try and develop a public facilitythat can now at last be managed and policedproperly.
After years of stress, noise, littering, bla-tant drug and alcohol abuse, sex-in-the-bushes, meetings with officials and frequentphone-calls to the police, this is the least weas ratepayers can expect. Your negative re-porting frankly astoundsme. Perhapswe canfinally live in relative peace.

OUR open day at the Hermanns-burg Little Oaks' Kindergarten isa huge hit year after year.
This is the day on which ourmoms, dads (or other familymem-bers) get to spend the day with usat school, andwherewealso invitenew friends who might be inter-ested in joining our Kindergarten,to come and see how much funlearning can be.
Our teachers always surprise uswith new ideas and this year was
no different - this year's themewas 'GoodManners' and in the su-per-fungamesweplayed, our visi-tors had to ask each other for helpto bundle each of us into a blanketand race across the playground ina relay race and (obviously), say-ing 'please'and 'thankyou'wasanimportant part of it.
We practised setting the tableand also had fun showing our visi-torswhatwedoatmusicapprecia-tion lessons before we showed
them our work-books so that theycan see how much we havelearned.
A big highlight was when weshowed our visitorswhat happensinNumberland,andwegot tohearabout Number five, the Mayor ofNumberland, celebrating hisbirthday at his house in the penta-gon-shaped garden, and howNumber one could only get intoNumber five's house if he tookNumber four along ... so that they
add up to five, you see?The best part of open day is of
course story-time, where ourteachers and volunteer workersfrom Germany act out a story forus.

On Sunday the St Cathryn’steam travelled down to Mande-ni for the second leg of the Tri-angular against Mandeni andDarnall.Wewere all greeted bygolfers wearing shorts and al-though the oppositionwore jer-seys, remarking that it was achilly morning. We soonchanged fromour longs and thenoticeable temp changebrought some fairly good golfout from our players. Thecourse at Mandeni was dry andshouting for some irrigation

STANDERTON on Saturdayproved to be a better race thanthe two Vrede's. We had re-turns, although the yearlingsbattled somewhat.
Of the 24 open birds dis-patched, 17 were clocked inrace time, with Attie Joubertleading the pack to gain his firstwin of the season.
He was closely followed bytheNaickers,whofilledthenextthree positions, with Attie fifth.The Old Grizzle actually beat MLofts this time in sixthplaceandM Lofts in seventh spot.
Liberated at 9.45am, the 269kmswas flown in three andhalfhours at a velocity of 1276 me-tres per minute. The yearlings,
minute to the Naickers loft,which gained first and second,withAttie, determined not to beleft out filling third place.
These were the only threeyearlings clocked from 14 sent.
Theweather is so changeablethat one doesn’t quite knowwhat to expect on race day.
