    Display System

Display Systems are specialists in the

design and manufacture of projector systemsfor the simulation and training community. Wework tirelessly in support of our industrythrough close partnership with systemsintegrators the world over.

    Disk Drive

A machine that reads data from and writes data ontoa disk. A disk drive rotates the disk very fast and has oneor more heads that read and write data.

There are different types of disk drivers for different typesof disks. For example, a hard disk drive (HDD) reads

and writes hard disk, and a floppy drive (FDD) accessfloppy disk. Amagnetic diskdrive reads magneticdisks, and an optical drive reads optical disk.

Disk drives can be either internal(housed withinthe computer) or external(housed in a separate box thatconnects to the computer).

    Storage

A storage device that holds, spins, reads and

writes magnetic disks or optical (CD, DVD, MO,

UDO) disks. It may be a receptacle for removable

disk cartridges, floppy disks or optical media, or itmay contain non-removable platters like most hard

disk drives. See manetic disk, cd , DVD, Magneto-

    optic disk and UDO.

PrinterPrinter is a device that accepts text and

graphic output from a computer and transfersthe information to paper, usually to standardsize sheets of paper. Printers are sometimes soldwith computers, but more frequently arepurchased separately. Printers vary in size, speed, sophistication, and cost. In general, moreexpensive printers are used for higher-resolution color printing.

Color: Color is important for users who need to print pages forpresentations or maps and other pages where color is part ofthe information. Color printers can also be set to print only inblack-and-white.

Resolution: Printer resolution (the sharpness of text and

images on paper) is usually measured in dots per inch ( dpi). Most inexpensive printers provide sufficient resolution formost purposes at 600 dpi.

Speed: If you do much printing, the speed of the printerbecomes important. Inexpensive printers print only about 3to 6 sheets per minute. Color printing is slower. Moreexpensive printers are much faster.

Memory: Most printers come with a small amount of memory(for example, one megabyte ) that can be expanded by theuser. Having more than the minimum amount of memory ishelpful and faster when printing out pages with large images

or tables with lines around them (which the printer treats as alarge image).

The four printer qualities of most interest to mostusers are:

    Plotter

A plotter is a computer printing device forprinting vector graphics. In the past, plotters werewidely used in applications such as computer-aideddesign, though they have generally been replaced withwide-format conventional printers, and it is now

commonplace to refer to such wide-format printers as"plotters," even though they technically aren't. A plotter is a vector graphics printing device to print

    graphical plots.

Keyboard typically hascharacters engraved or printed on the keys and each pressof a key typically corresponds to a single written symbol. However, to produce some symbols requires pressing and

holding several keys simultaneously or in sequence. Whilemost keyboard keys produce letters, numbers or signs(characters), other keys or simultaneous key presses canproduce actions or computer commands.

    Input device

Input device is any peripheral (pieceof computer hardware equipment) used toprovide data and control signals to aninformation processing system such as

a computer or other information appliance.Input and output devices make up thehardware interface between a computer anda scanner or 6DOF controller.

    10/11

Input devices, such asbuttons and joysticks, can becombined on a single

physical device that could bethought of as a compositedevice. Many gaming deviceshave controllers like this.Technically mice arecomposite devices, as theyboth track movement andprovide buttons for clicking, but composite devices aregenerally considered to havemore than two different

forms of input. Game controller Gamepad (or joy pad) Paddle (game controller)
