• First, write down the sentence on the board:

• Then, erase the subject presidentpresident and substitute someonesomeone for it.

Next, write the question and the answer on the board.
Ex: Someone phoned the Queen.

(The president phoned the Queen.)
• Then we rub out the Queen, substituting someone.
Ex: The president phoned the Queen.

(The president phoned who/whom.)

• Then we elicit the question and its answer and write them on the board.
Ex: Someone phoned the Queen.

• Explain the differences of the structure.• Point out that to form questions about the
subject of the sentence requires no change in word order.
