I. INTRODUCTION:
Today, more than ever before in our history, people find themselves working more
and more with groups: Interrelations among people are unavoidable and society realizes
that it derives its strength from the effective functioning of the multitude of groups that it
contains. Most of its valuable resources are the groups of people found in homes, schools,
churches, business concerns, union halls, offices, communities, and various branches of
government. Now, it is recognized that these units must perform their functions well if the
larger systems are to work successfully. To place this concept in proper perspective, realitydictates that it is not the number of degrees the one holds but the ways one can make a
team perform effectively, that determines a good leader. Thus, the universal acceptance
and use of group dynamics in many fieldsincluding the classroom is vital.
II. RATIONALE:
The widening acknowledgement of the change in the role of teachers from a simple
source of knowledge in the classrooms, (or the sage who pours information into students
receiving them like containers) to a facilitator in the learning process-one who assists
students as they themselves discover, unfold, and learn through involvement. This impliesthat the teacher can not teach anything of significance without the personal involvement of
the learner. This aptly stated by Oscar Wilde when he wrote, Education is an admirable
thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be
taught; it has to be lived. It presupposes the need for the intellectual and emotional
involvement of the student in a meaningful and relevant experiencing.

Continuing from this changed concept of the teachers role in the classroom, the next
task is to prepare the teachers, especially teachers of Calabanga National High School, for
this role. Possibly one of the best ways to do this is to introduce group dynamics to them.
II. OBJECTIVES:
Most of teachers, even students have heard of group dynamics in relation to
Guidance, Human Relations, and Training programs. However, it is seldom associated with
nor used in the classrooms or in teaching-learning situation. It is the purpose therefore of
this activity to:
For Teachers-facilitators:
a. clarify the meaning of Group Dynamics;
b. present the general procedure of group dynamics;
c. present actual exercises that may be participated in by everyone in theclassroom; and
d. point out the possibilities of group dynamics as an instrument or a tool for
effective instrument and satisfying learning.
For the students-participants:
Some group dynamics models should be tried out and be used as supplementary
procedures/devices to the more conventional methods of instruction that are usually used in
classrooms.
In this strategy, the teachers would have the pleasant task of drawing out students
from their shells, helping them learn more about themselves, interrelate with others better, and at the same time, experience the feelings and gain the insights that usually occur as
learning takes place.

CLASSROOM-BASED FRESHMEN FRIENDSHIP ACTIVITY:

I. INTRODUCTION
The widening acknowledgement of the change in the role of teachers from a
simple source of knowledge in the classrooms, (or the sage who pours information into
students receiving them like containers) to a facilitator in the learning process-one
who assists students as they themselves discover, unfold, and learn through
involvement. This implies that the teacher cannot teach anything of significance without
the personal involvement of the learner. This aptly stated by Oscar Wilde when he
wrote, Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that
nothing that is worth knowing can be taught; it has to be lived. It presupposes the need
for the intellectual and emotional involvement of the student in a meaningful and
relevant experiencing.
Continuing from this changed concept of the teachers role in the classroom, the
next task is to prepare the teachers, especially Grade 7 teachers of Calabanga National
High School, for this role. Possibly one of the best ways to do this is to introduce Group
Dynamics to them.
II. PREPARATORY PHASE
Since there had been many other school priorities and schedules to attend to
during June 15, 2012, the implementation of the classroom-based group dynamics
activities was reset on June 16-23, 2012.
An echo-meeting for all Grade 7 class advisers regarding the project was
realized last June 15, 2012, held at the school library. It is stated in the correspondence
that as everyone knows, times have been challenging lately for the entire school
community and there have been many recent developments in the educational situation
7/29/2019 Group Dynamics Accomplishment Final (2)
7/14
that are seen to impact the schools educational practices, particularly those innovative
influences brought by and in support to the School-Based Management Program of the
Department of Education.
In light of these developments, Mr. Leo B. Ricafrente, as one of the proponents
and as the Grade 7 Year level chairman, had managed to ask for a staff meeting to
discuss measures regarding the project and some other important matters that all of the
advisers in the Grade 7 should take to deal with. The meeting was in general in lined
with the year level action planning for school year 2012-2013.
The project was designed especially to address the various yet specific educative
concerns of the school for all Grade 7 students, particularly in preparing them for their
transition when it comes to intellectual, physical, emotional and social orientations in
comparison with their background in elementary years to their new learning atmosphere
in the high school. The project has taken the advantage of the momentum of
enthusiasm the students have ( and all Grade 7 students for that matter) in their high
school life by giving their best of their abilities to fill in their socio-academic and moral
needs, through the facility of group dynamics being integrated in the classroom setting.
In the meeting, Mr. Ricafrente together with his co-teacher proponents have
pointed out to the body that to ensure the efficient and effective implementation of the
aforementioned project, the exertion of utmost effort to keep the teaching-learningprocess a challenging yet welcoming one, valuable support of the entire Grade 7
teaching force to develop the classroom into a learner friendly environment is relatively
necessary.
III. ACTIVITY PROPER
Ideally, all Grade 7 advisers are the ones enjoined to facilitate the conduct and
over-all observance of the project, however in the actual situations, only the proponents
are the ones who were able to carry out the recognition and full implmentation of the
project.
On the other hand, most teachers, even students have heard of group
dynamics in relation to Guidance, Human Relations, and Training programs. However,
it is seldom associated with nor used in the classrooms or in teaching-learning situation.
In response to the execution of the project, the following objectives were put into
consideration: For the Teacher-Facilitators - a. clarification of the meaning of Group
Dynamics; b. presentation of the general procedure of group dynamics; c. presentation
of the actual exercises that might be participated in by everyone in the classroom; and
d. pointing out the possibilities of group dynamics as an instrument or a tool for
effective instrument and satisfying learning experience.
7/29/2019 Group Dynamics Accomplishment Final (2)
8/14
On the same hand, for the Student-Participants, some group dynamics models
should be tried out and be used as supplementary procedures and/or devices to the
more conventional methods of instruction that are usually used in classrooms. In this
strategy, the teachers would have the pleasant tasks of drawing out students from their
shells, helping them learn more about themselves, interrelate with others better, and at
the same time, experience the feelings and gain the insights that usually occur as
learning takes place.
The actual implementation of the project started on the 16 th day of June 2012 and
it ended up last 23 rd of the same month. As in other teaching techniques, the general
procedures adopted in each of the group dynamics activity are as follow: a) setting the
learning in a state of attention, anticipation and readiness for active learning, b) going
thru experience, c) processing the experience for intellectual enlightenment (cognitive)
and emotional effects (affective), d) application of insights to real life situations; and e)
additional pieces of information provided by resource person (the teacher-facilitator) to
enrich or complement the learners insights.
In terms of budgetary requirement, the least expenses and other material
resources relative to and/or which incurred/used in the preparation and conduct of the
project was charged single-handedly by the proponents through their personal financial
assistance; however subjected to the usual accounting and auditing rules andprocedures of the school.
The proposed budget of Six Hunded Pesos (Php 600.00) only, which was
supposed to be intended for all the expenses, especially when it comes to the
production of handouts for each of the activities, was not totally utilized. The
photocopying of handouts had only spent a total of One Hundred Twenty Three Pesos
(Php 123.00) and all its cost was entirely from the personal shares of the proponents.
IV. POST ACTIVITY ASSESSMENT
Both project participants and facilitators recognized that the project was engaging
and beneficial to the whole Grade 7 student community and the latter underlined that
with more early and thorough preparation it could deliver an even more significant
impact on all project beneficiaries.
However, there were concerns constraints that were not thoroughly taken into
consideration with respect to the activity:
a. Since it is a new activity for Freshmen Level, getting the approval
and recognition of other teachers with regard to the significance
of the project was very difficult.
7/29/2019 Group Dynamics Accomplishment Final (2)
9/14
b. the teachers who attended the echo-meeting as regards the
project were somewhat not quite engrossed with the significance
and benefits of the project. That is why only the project-
proponents solely facilitated the observance of the project.
Despite all these, the accomplishment of the project still revealed that thorough
preparations must be dealt with every time there would be more activities much relative
to the one conducted. As much as possible, the next time the school shall sponsor
again such that kind of project; more emphasis must be given to the beneficiaries and
utmost effort, recognition and consideration of other teachers in most, if not all, year-
level activities is a commitment.
Respectfully submitted:
