Reflection Palm Sunday In this final Lenten Sunday we look again at the significance of Christ in our lives.
Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their garments over it, and he sat on it. Many in
the crowd spread their coats on the road ahead of Jesus, and others cut leafy branches in the
fields and spread them along the way. He was in the center of the procession, and the crowds
all around him were shouting, "Praise God! Bless the one who comes in the name of the
Lord! Bless the coming kingdom of our ancestor David! Praise God in highest heaven!"
Mark 11:6-10
As we prepare for Easter, we remember Jesus entering the city of Jerusalem
humbly on the back of a donkey on Palm Sunday. It is a day of great
celebration, and a day of deep mourning. On this day, Jesus entered
Jerusalem as its king while thousands rejoiced. Within a week, he would be
dead, and his followers would be confused and scattered. For everyone who
witnessed the events of that week 2000 years ago, it was a roller coaster
ride—they knew nothing of Easter. We, on the other hand, have the hope of
the resurrection, but also the knowledge that we are the reason for the
crucifixion.
Catholic Education Week This week we celebrate Catholic Education Week. It is an opportunity to
stop and reflect on the mission of Catholic Education and to strengthen
relationships between all those who have a stake in our children’s
education.

Reggio Emilia Study Group Tonight six of our teachers, Dena Reddan, Chris Grayland, Gerardine Farrelly, Adam Coustley (already in Italy),
Michelle Budd and Sarah Armour, leave for a week long study tour of the town of Reggio Emilia in Italy. While there
they will visit schools that approach learning with this philosophy and visit the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre. It
will help us reflect on how we at St Therese could further benefit from the international research into early years
education. The teachers will be joined by over 200 participants from many different countries, and are in a study group of
educators from Victoria University, Melbourne and Portland State University, Oregon, USA.
Grade 6 Camp: I had the pleasure of attending the grade 6 camp last week. The children are to be congratulated for the way in which they
engaged in the activities, worked with the staff and supported each other. Camps give children an opportunity to develop
skills of independence, gain resilience, unplug from technology, learn social skills, make true friends and experience
many cultural activities. The benefits can not be underestimated. We thank the staff of St. Therese for providing this
wonderful opportunity for the students. Staff also give a considerable amount of time to plan and implement the camp.
Added to this is the amount of time they are away from their own families. We thank them for their wonderful support of
the children.
School Cross Country: Congratulations to all of the children who participated in the cross country event yesterday. We had a stunning day for the
event, which was so well organised by Mr. Low. All staff are to be congratulated for created a great atmosphere, with
fantastic costumes and a fair amount of talent shown running with the children. Thank you to the many parents who
attended the event to support the children. Thank you also to the Parents and Friends for organising and serving the fruit
on the day. A fantastic day.
CareMonkey: As you are aware St Therese School has introduced the ‘CareMonkey’ program. Some families will be receiving emails
on a regular basis to ask you to create a profile for your child. It is extremely important you create this profile as all the
school’s excursions, permission notes and notifications (e-forms) will be forwarded to you via ‘CareMonkey’.
When you receive a notification -eForm- from ‘CareMonkey sign in and follow the steps: e.g Acknowledge and Dismiss
or permission given. If these notifications are not acknowledged the system will keep sending you the notice, even after
the event.
St Therese School- Athletics Day 2016:
What a big term it has been for St Therese students. Just after we have finished our School Cross Country we roll straight
into our annual School Athletics Day.
Next week, on Tuesday the March 22, we will be travelling to Landy Field in Geelong for this event. The timetable
below should be used as a guide to give you an idea of when your child will be participating in their different events.

Vision Screening Forms: It is not too late to return the Vision Screening forms to the office if you haven’t done so already. The screenings will
begin this week.
Year 3/4 Clean Up Australia Day: On Thursday March 3, we walked around the Deep Creek area to
pick up rubbish for Clean Up Australia Day. We picked up a lot
more rubbish than we expected too.
When we got back to school we got to respond in any way we liked.
People made ads to let people know not to litter and others wrote
slogans to remind people not to litter.
Lots of us sorted the rubbish before we put it in our school bin.
We found 23 plastic lids, 46 straws, 32 pieces of paper, 60 cigarette
butts, 20 glass bottles unbroken and 574 smashed glass pieces.
There was heaps of other rubbish that we could not put into a
group. We also had 36 cans and 47 cardboard cups mostly from
McDonald's and Subway.
They all weighed over 15 kg.
We were very disappointed to find this much rubbish in our Deep
Creek area. We want people to think of what they are doing to our
environment when they litter. We hope it’s mostly tourists but we want local people to think about where their litter goes
if it’s not put in a bin. It goes in our bushes and then ends up in our oceans.
We ask everyone to take three pieces of paper from the beach but also from our bushes too as this is forgotten sometimes.
Next year we will do it again and we want to compare the results.
We hope it’s going to be much less!!
WE ASK YOU TO DISCUSS WITH YOUR FAMILY WHAT CAN YOU DO TO
MAKE TORQUAY A CLEANER PLACE TO LIVE?

LENT
REFLE
CTIONS – Year 4
During the time of Lent, the Year 4 students have been exploring the symbols and meaning of The Last Supper.
Some of the students wrote diary entries about the Passover meal.
Dear Diary,
It was the night of the Passover. Jesus asked John and I to go and find the man with the jug of water and here I am now
with all the other disciples and of course Jesus.
I could smell the strong wine and see steam rising out of the bread. I could feel Jesus's smooth warm hand gliding across
my feet and making them feel warm and relaxed.
When Jesus mentioned the betrayer I knew it was not me. I could also see that Judas looked very uncomfortable about
this conversation.
Jesus passed the bread around and said “This is my body given to you.”
Then came the wine. He said “This is my blood.”
As I felt my lips touch the cool wine I knew that this was not a normal Passover meal.
(Emily Armitage)
Dear Diary,
Today I ate the Passover feast with my disciples. It was tense. I could see their worried faces when I was talking about the
bread and wine. I could feel the breadcrumbs on my tongue. When we were eating I could smell the warm food and I
could hear the mad shouts. I could taste the wine slip down my throat.
All of this made me feel happy because I was spending the Passover feast with my good friends.

Here is a great opportunity to contribute to a really amazing children’s facility. Hamish who is in Grade 1 at St Therese is
a patient of the RCH. He has Type 3 Spinal Muscular Atrophy which is a genetic condition. Hamish has 6 monthly
Neuromuscular Clinics at the RCH where he meets a team of specialists that monitor his condition. The RCH in
conjunction with the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute is currently participating in Phase 3 Clinical Trials of a new
treatment that has the potential to improve Hamish’s condition and ultimately change his life. This trial is one of the many
amazing things the Children’s Hospital does for children in Victoria. Any donation to the RCH Good Friday Appeal is
worthwhile. If you refer to the link below you will meet Simone Lionetti who is the face of the Good Friday Appeal this
