Solar Energy Introduction PV System directly converts solar energy into electricity. The basic building block of a PV system is the PV Cell, which is a semiconductor device that converts solar energy into direct current (DC) electricity. The main components of grid tied system are modules, inverters, electrical components and PV module mounting system.

Classification PV technologies Crystalline Silicon (c-Si) modules represent 85 – 90% of the global annual Market today. C-Si modules are subdivided in to two main Categories: Single Crystalline (sc-Si) Multi – Crystalline (mc – Si). Thin Films currently account for 10% to 15% of global PV Module sales. They are subdivided into three main families: Amorphous (a-Si) and micro morph silicon (a-Si / µc-Si), Cadmium – Telluride (CdTe) Copper – Indium – Diselenide (CIS) and Copper – Indium – Gallium – Diselenide (CIGS).

b. Power Conditioning Unit Inverters take care of four basic tasks of power conditioning: 1. Converting the DC Power coming from the PV modules or battery bank to AC Power. 2. Ensuring that the frequency of the AC cycles is 50 cycles per second. 3. Reducing voltage fluctuations. 4. Ensuring that the shape of the AC Wave is appropriate for the application. i.e. a pure sine wave for grid-connected systems.

Inverters are two broad classes of inverters: 1. Central Inverters. 2. String Inverters.

c. PV Module Mounting System Arrangement Fixed Mounting systems keep the rows of modules at a fixed tilt angle, while facing a fixed angle of orientation. Tilt angle is important for maximizing the energy incident on the collector plane. The Tilt angle and orientation is generally optimized for each PV Power plant according to location. This helps to maximize the total annual incident irradiation and total annual energy yield. For Indian sites, the optimum tilt angle is generally between 10° and 35°, facing true south. Fixed tilt mounting systems are simpler, cheaper and have lower maintenance requirements than tracking systems.

d. AC Distribution AC Distribution design is purely based on the system capacity, nearest grid availability to the site. AC Distribution consists of major equipments like LT Panels, Distribution Transformers, HT Panels and Control system for your case connected to LT panel system or others.
