University Pathways Cup 21 July 07For the first time, students from a number ofMelbourne’s pathway programs gathered fora football contest. Four teams (from RMIT,Taylors, La Trobe and Monash College)answered the challenge. At RMIT, we sourced a fantastic coach (FrankSiliato, husband of Annitta in Business) andtraining started on Sundays in May. ThroughJune and July, on some bitterly cold days,Frank and his assistant, Joe, made thesestudents really believe they could win thechampionship.
And they did!The final game of the one day round-robin contest was against
Monash College, and came to an unsatisfying O-O draw. Then, in the fading light, Amin, our goalie, stopped the Monash penalty kicks, while ours were successful.
We took away the trophy (for thisyear) and medallions were proudly
worn by the 15 team members.Report by Gordon Flynn
