Absences from School On occasion, your child may need to be absent from

school. Justified reasons for student absences may

include:

being sick, or having an infectious disease

having an unavoidable medical appointment

exceptional or urgent family circumstance (e.g.

attending a funeral)

Following an absence from school you must ensure that

within 7 days you provide the school with a note explaining

the reason for the absence. However, if we have not

received an explanation from you within 2 days, the school

may contact you to discuss the absence.

Principals may request medical certificates or other

documentation when frequent or long term absences are

explained as being due to illness.

Therefore please remember to send a note to explain

absences as soon as your child returns to school.

3-6 Excursion Last Friday, our Stage Two and Three students had an

adventurous day visiting the Royal Botanic Gardens, Police

and Justice Museum, and Sydney Museum. The students

were engaged in learning about the diverse Aboriginal

heritage by exploring plant uses, culture and artefacts.

Stage Three visited the Police and Justice Museum,

exploring the impact of the gold rush on law and order in

the colony of NSW, and of bushrangers on the Australian

identity. Stage Two students learned that the Museum of

Sydney was built over the site of first Government House.

They were guided through the museum and participated

in structured learning activities that helped them to

explain why people in the past may have behaved as they

did.

Bike Safety A reminder to parents/carers that cyclists of all ages are

required by law to wear a helmet whenever they ride in

public places. It is the school’s expectation that students

travelling to and from school by bicycle will follow the law

and correctly wear a helmet. Schools are obliged to notify

parents/carers when a student is seen to be not wearing or

incorrectly wearing a bicycle helmet when riding to or from

school. The safety of your children is paramount and the

school has procedures in place to reinforce these strategies

in lessons during the year. If you could discuss the above

message with your children at home it would be appreciated.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School

Students with Disability (NCCD) Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students

with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools

to identify information already available in the school about

supports provided to students with disability. These relate

to legislative requirements under the Disability

Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for

Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian

Government for the NCCD includes:

year of schooling

category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory

or social/emotional

level of adjustment provided: support provided

within quality differentiated teaching practice,

supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

formally recognise the supports and adjustments

provided to students with disability in schools

consider how they can strengthen the support of

students with disability in schools

develop shared practices so that they can review

their learning programs in order to improve

educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the

information they need to plan more broadly for the support

of students with disability.

If you do not wish for your child to be included in the data

collection, please contact Mrs Kitsoukilias by the end of

Term 2.

Have a wonderful week!

Megan Predl

Voluntary School Contribution

LAST Chance to Win School Vouchers/Prizes While Public Schools do not ask parents to pay school

fees, they are able to ask families for a voluntary

contribution towards the funds used to run the school.

Voluntary contributions are used to purchase exercise

books, pencils, art and craft supplies, paper and other

necessities. This enables the school to purchase more

teaching and learning resources to improve student

outcomes.

Every voluntary contribution made to date has been

placed in the draw to win one of 3 excellent prizes!

1st Prize: School Voucher $100.00

2nd Prize: School Voucher $50.00

3rd Prize: Beyblade Burst Turbo – Sling Shock Set

If you would like to be in the draw to win a prize,

please send in your payment before Tuesday next

week, when the winners will be drawn at our school

assembly!

Do you have our Seesaw app? What is Seesaw?

Seesaw is a simple way for teachers and students

to record and share what's happening in the

classroom.

Seesaw gives students a place to document their

learning, be creative and learn how to use

technology.

Each student receives their own journal and will

add things to it, like photos, videos, drawings, or

notes.

When there are new Seesaw posts, families can

be notified via app notification, email or SMS.

Parents are only notified about their own child's

work, and all data is safe and secure.

How do I connect to my child's Seesaw journal?

Your child will have their own unique QR code that was

sent home last term. Once you download the app to your

device you will be able to connect to your child’s journal

by scanning the QR code. If you have lost or misplaced

the QR code, feel free to ask at the front office or your

child’s classroom teacher for another copy.

The following link is a short video to show you how to set

Seesaw up on your device

VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTION SCHEME 2019

Dear Parents/Carers, While Public Schools do not ask parents to pay school fees, they are able to ask families for a contribution towards the funds used to run the school. For this reason, we are asking parents and carers for a voluntary contribution towards the educational needs of the children at Guise Public School. We appreciate that these times are economically challenging and for schools it is the same. Voluntary contributions are used to purchase exercise books, pencils, art and craft supplies, paper and other necessities. This enables the school to purchase more teaching and learning resources to improve student outcomes. At Guise Public School, we are asking for a contribution of $25.00 per child or $50.00 per family with two or more children. Receipts will be issued for all donations. Every voluntary contribution made will be in the draw to win one of three excellent prizes!

1st Prize: School Voucher $100.00 2nd Prize: School Voucher $50.00

3rd Prize: Beyblade Burst Turbo – Sling Shock Set

Prizes will be drawn Term 2 Week 9 at our whole school assembly! With anticipated thanks, Megan Predl Principal -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
