Purpose!

Forty-five Parrot Heads made their way to the East bank of the Arkansas river to attend our March Phlocking at River Spirit Mar-garitaville Restaurant. What a good crowd.

We met inside this month, as the luck of the Irish was not with us. The temperature was a bit cool for us to meet outside. It will really be nice when it warms-up a bit so our Phlock can begin meeting outside. Keep your fingers crossed for next month at the Stumbling Monkey.

As people began to sign-in, sign-up for events, and mingle, we setup for T-Shirt sales. Margaritaville donated several hun-dred brand new T-Shirts to our club. They are from various Margaritaville bars and restaurants. We are selling T-Shirts with $20 to $30 price tags still on them for $10 each. Grab a t-shirt as all of the money we

collect goes to our Trop Rock River Phlock charities (Coffee Bunker and Joy to the Cause.) That adds up to be a win-win!

The Margaritaville Restaurant surprised us this month with some free food. Everyone knows how much Parrot Heads LOVE free food. Margaritaville provided a nacho bar for us to wade our way through. Our thanks goes out to Margaritaville.

As we finished off the last of the nachos, President Cathy made her announcements and shortly afterwards we started the raffle. It was, of course, another good raffle. As the raffle ended, our Phlock started thin-ning out pretty quick this month.

Attitude of GratitudeAn interview with our Secretary Rebecca Land Submitted by Don Jones

A few nights ago I sat down with Rebecca Land, our TPHC secretary, at the FlyingTee. After dodging a few

golf balls, I found out a little bit about her. I hope you enjoy the interview. How long have you been a Parrot Head? How many years have you been an officer of TPHC? I am not exactly sure how long I have been a member, but ap-proximately sixteen (16) years. I have been an officer for about four (4) years. What other clubs or organizations are you active in? And/or serve in leadership roles? I play bunko and I have no other leadership roles.Where were you “born and raised?” What high school? College? What is your “real” job? I was born in Tulsa, OK and lived here until I was twelve. I then moved to Siloam Springs, AR for three years before mov-ing to Owensboro, KY for the next thirteen years. I went to Daviess County High School in Owensboro, KY where I graduated in 1976. I attended Campbellsville College in Campbellsville, KY before moving back to Tulsa in 1985. My real job is Office Manager for an Architect firm, Wozencraft and Associates. My boss is 91 and he puts all of us to shame with his work habits. I am very blessed to have had the opportunity to work with Wally.Tell us a little bit about your family. Children? Grandchildren? Names and ages? ? I am married to David Land, of Tulsa, OK. We married in 1986. I have two boys, Matthew 30 and Brandon 27. Brandon is mar-ried to Erin Collins Land and they have a 2 ½ year old boy, Kade Michael Land, and are expecting another child in August. How many Buffett concerts have you attended? Where and when was the first? What was your fa-vorite concert? Concerts? I have gone to approximately

sixteen (16) concerts. All of those in Texas and I also saw Jimmy in Las Vegas and in Tulsa. I don’t have a favorite as they have all been PHUN!Besides “Parrot heading” do you have any hobbies? What do you do to chillax? We have a cabin on Grand Lake in Duck Creek. My husband and I spend most weekends there from about April to October. We love to fish and putt around in our 1976 Glastron boat. What is your favorite food? Favorite Bev-erage? Favorite Buffett song(s)? Favorite

food is chocolate in almost any form! Beverage? Right now, I am enjoying a Fat Tire beer and of course I do enjoy my tonic and tequila. My favorite Jimmy Buffett song is “If the phone doesn’t ring, it’s me” but the list is actually very long, Brahma Fear, Growing Older But Not Up, Tin Cup Chalice, Ringling, Ringling, Incommunicado …and the list goes on and on!What trait or traits in people do you like the most? What traits do you like the least? Likes – sincerity, honesty, humility, fun, agreeable, forgiving, respectful. Dislike – big ego’s.If there was no more Buffett or Trop Rock music, what would be on your playlist? 70’s Classic Rock or OLD country music (you know the good stuff). What improvements or changes would you like to see for the Tulsa Parrot Head Club over the next five (5) years? I would like to see more involvement from a wider range of our members. I think we have a great leader and I expect the future holds many wonderful experiences. All good interviews must end with a goofy question. Here is yours. If you were the new color in the Cray-ola box, which color would it be and why? It would be sunset because I love the colors of the sunsets on the water and it stills my soul. The next time you see Rebecca, give her a big hug and a big thank you for being on our board as our Secretary. Phins Up!

Earlier this month Mr. Buffett announced he will be doing a show in Las Vegas on October 20, 2018. In case you missed the email Madam President sent to everyone, tickets went on sale to the public on March 19th.

Unfortunately, the deadline for obtaining tickets from the Las Vegas Club has passed. However, tickets are still available through Margaritaville.com. They range in price from $70 to $212.

There is a group of us going to the show and we would love to have you join us. We are leaving at various times and on various dates. Most of us are staying downtown on Fremont street, but we will all meet for a pre-party down on the strip before the concert. For those of you who have never seen Buffet in Vegas you should know from those of us who have, it is a blast! Hope to see you in Las Vegas...

We will be holding our annual TPHC Golf Tour-nament at the Sequoyah State Park golf course beside beautiful Ft. Gibson Lake. It is a Shotgun start beginning at 9:00am. We will be holding our pre-party at the Ft. Gibson Elks Lodge the night before starting at 6:00pm.

Golfers need to complete a registration form and make their payment before May 1st to save $5 per player ($85 rather than $90 per player.)

If you plan to volunteer, make sure you sign-up and start thinking about what you will be doing for the golfers on your hole and who you would like to work with you on your hole.

It may seem like forever, but June is just around

the corner so we need everyone to pitch in and help us gather golfers, prizes, BEER (of course we always need beer), gift cards, and hole sponsors for our tournament. Remember our charity is Tulsa Cere-bral Palsy and all donations are tax deductible.

Make sure you track the time you spend getting golfers and donations, as you can earn one point per each volunteer hour. They can add up fast.

FORMS: We have attached the Entry Form, Spon-sorship Form, Sponsor request Form, etc., to this newsletter for your convenience.

You can also find all of the golf forms on our website (www.Tulsaparrotheads.com) under the events tab.

Tulsa Parrot Head Club 23rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament

“Phlocking at the Phort” June 16, 2018

Sequoyah State Park Dear Giver, The Tulsa Parrot Head Club has been actively involved in charitable events since 1993. This year, our 23rd annual charity golf tournament will benefit the Tulsa Cerebral Palsy Association. We will be giving every dollar we raise at our golf tournament to this wonderful group of people dedicated to helping the lives of children and adults affected by cerebral palsy in the Tulsa area. We are asking businesses and individuals to help us this year by sponsoring a hole at the golf course or by donating to the tournament or by donating promotional merchandise, golf equipment, gift certificates, gift cards, volunteers, well, you name it, we will gratefully accept almost any donation! We are currently in search of sponsors for our tournament. The minimum donation to have your name and/or company logo displayed on a special sign at a tee box is $100. Your donation is tax deductible. You can make your check payable to: The Tulsa Cerebral Palsy Association (TCPA) or to the Tulsa Parrot Head Club. Either way, you will receive a donation receipt from the TCPA organization. If you donate $100 or greater, please send me an electronic file with your logo, company artwork, or anything you would like to appear on your sponsorship sign. If you are unable to provide a logo or artwork, we will be happy to create a sponsorship sign on your behalf to promote your business or donor name. Our tournament is a unique, super fun event. There are no cash prizes for finishing first, but finish 13th and your team will be the stars of the day. Our emphasis is on charity first, fun a close second, winning…well, that does not really matter. Each year we have an overflow of golfers that join us from Wagoner, Tulsa, Arkansas and even Texas! The Tulsa Cerebral Palsy Association is a special part of the Tulsa Parrot Head Club. We have multiple members with children, nieces, nephews, sisters, or brothers directly affected by the disease. Make a difference today – make your donation now! Phore the Kids! Cathy Boley Tulsa Parrot Head Club, Tournament Chair (918) 812-3115 [email protected]
