Next meeting on Thursday June 6, 2019 at 2 P.M. at the Clubhouse computer room Presentation: What We Learned at the NGS Conference: New Apps, Updated Software, and Updated Websites

Please let Bill Scroggin ([email protected]) know if there is a subject of interest to you for upcoming meetings or if you would like one-on-one assistance. For new members or those who have missed some of the meetings, please go to the HHR Club webpage for the Genealogy Club to view past presentations.

Fitness Equipment Usage We are placing a card on each of the seven fitness machines (treadmills and recumbent bikes) in the clubhouse fitness room. We would like to monitor how often each piece of equipment is being used. The area for the equipment in the room is a little tight and this will help us to see what is truly being utilized. We may get rid of unused equipment which will allow us extra space for some new things. Please remember to make a check mark on the equipment tag when you are finished working out. Thanks for your cooperation.

Lawn Care damage to irrigation systems Periodically we are contacted about the Greenwood crews damaging irrigation heads or pipes while servicing a lawn. Properly installed and properly functioning irrigation systems should not be affected at all by routine lawn maintenance. Damage often occurs when heads are not retracting flush back to the ground or irrigation systems are not installed at the appropriate depth. Please check your system. Legitimate damage must be reported to me in the office and I will look into holding Greenwood responsible for the repair. Thank you, Kelly

Putting League Results May 20 There were 66 putters for the first week of the season! Doug Bredbrenner had the only hole-in-one. Cheryl Kuhfuss had the lowest round with a 14. Leonard Zwanziger (21), Elvira Johnson (23), Dave Wanhatalo (24), Debbie Burmeister (26), Sharon Bell (27), Sandy Kraft (28), and Kathleen Johnson (29) were flight winners. Ties in each flight were decided by score card playoffs based on a player's score on the hardest hole(s). Putting league is held every two weeks on a Monday at 4 pm. The next putting league event is June 3..

Blossom A Gardening Column by Ann Chandonnet Two creatures commonly inhabiting HHR gardens are slugs and skinks. Slugs are soft, gooey and less than 3/4 of an inch long. They chew on plant seedlings and leaves.. There are three environmentally-safe ways to treat them. 1) Put used coffee grounds around the base of the affected plant. 2) Form a ring of crushed egg shells. 3) Put out saucers of beer. They will happily drown themselves. (Non-alcoholic beer works just as well.) Refresh beer every 2 days. A member of the lizard/snake family, the most common Missouri skink is the five-line or blue-tailed. It is one of the largest species--about 6.5 inches long. If a skink's tail is bitten off, it will regrow. Skinks do not have stingers nor are they poisonous. They are fun to watch because their special feet make it possible to sprint across horizontal surfaces (like your home's brickwork). Skinks are valuable because they consume spiders. milli-pedes, crickets, termites, grasshoppers, caterpillars, beetles, beetle larva and snails. In domestic settings, they eat herbs, too.

New books in library The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende. The Other Side (El Otro Lado): Poems by Julia Alvarez. Walking The Choctaw Road by Native American storyteller Tim Tingle.

It’s so very tempting, but . . . please do not walk on the golf cart paths. It’s just not safe. We have golfers out very early in the morning and late in the day. Additionally, the grounds crew are working hard to keep the course looking nice and need to have complete access to get their work completed. Thanks for your cooperation.

POOL RESTROOM ACCESS

Just a quick reminder that THE ONLY restroom access from the pool is the door to the fitness room. Please do not prop open the doors from the ballroom or the card room.

By: Gary Turner, Resident of HHR and Alderman, Ward I

One of the most exciting developments in several months is the donation offering of 2+ acres by Meir Cohen, the owner of The Meadows, for a city park at the Meadows. The Board of Alderman gave a go ahead to the City Administrator at the May 20 meeting to have a landscape architect do a conceptual study. We look at this property not only to be used as a major attraction for The Meadows, but also to address recreation comments heard from residents and act as an economic development project that will encourage additional investment along Technology Drive. It may also help United Services efforts in raising money to construct The Children's Museum at the Meadows. Our Vision for this park is similar to St. Louis's City Garden in downtown St. Louis. Possible items for this tract could be an Upper Terrace, Limestone Wall, Water Pools above and below the Limestone Wall, a Plaza with Vertical Water Jets, a Water Pool adjacent to the Plaza, a Creek linking the water pools, a park playground, art sculptures, sidewalks, and unique lighting. Obviously, once the concept is developed, a budget needs to be developed within our existing resources. But such a park can make the Meadows the city center as residents voiced in the City Comprehensive plan. 1. In other business, Meridian Waste presented a proposal to introduce dual stream recycling to the city beginning in either September or October this year. they would add a second recycling cart that residents could deposit paper and cardboard. The Board gave approval to move forward with this option and amend the existing contract. This offering would increase your monthly bill by $1, but would allow you to opt out if you so desired. 2. The Board approved an amendment to the Preliminary Development Plan for The Waterways Apartments on Henke Road to build another 14 buildings containing 112 dwelling units. 3. Approved the award of a bid contract for Lake Saint Louis Blvd Improvement Project Phase I to L.F. Krupp Construction Co. 4. Approved the award of a bid contract for Freymuth Lane Widening to Gershenson Con-struction Company. 5. Approved the award of a bid contract for concrete panel replacements to J.M. Marschuetz Construction Company.

Friday, June 7 Meet at the clubhouse at 9am We are heading to Marthasville on the Katy Trail & lunch at Cory’s. Sign Up Below. For more info call Trish McCullen: 314-307-0003 What is Hikers & Bikers? What’s New Around the Neighborhood

-Deadline for the July Putterings is 6/26

1300—The Upside, Kevin Hart, Bryan Cranston

Advisor Report May 21, 2019 The April Financials were reviewed and approved. We found out Friday (May 17th) that our pool Company, Pool Pros had gone out of business. With great help from our pool committee we made it through until May 21th when our new pool company, Westport Pools could start. Due to increased load trying to cover other con-tracts our pool will be serviced on Monday, Wednesday & Friday at 6am. The office has a new copier. The fitness room renovation is complete except for the décor for the walls which is ordered. The 2 new adult height toilets have been installed in the ladies restroom. The vegetative buffer around the lake is gradually growing. This buffer will naturally filter out nutrients from washing into the lake. The Pro Shop roof and ceiling repairs will be completed soon. The entrance landscaping is in and looks very nice. All electrical repairs were completed the end of April. These included work to the flag pole lights, entrance monument by the guard shack and new lighting by signage on Hawk Ridge Blvd. A leak was found in the waterfall so it is shut off for now. A cost share agreement is being drafted with McBride Homes to share the cost for 452 ft. of aluminum fencing connecting to the north side of the current aluminum fencing in place. This will help protect our retention pond. The street repairs will begin early to middle June depending on the rain. A few spots on the cart paths will also be repaired. Samples are being obtained for new carpet for the clubhouse hallways and card room. The new Advisor election and voting was discussed. The winners will be announced at the June 24th Town Hall Meeting. A new stop sign and 2 street signs will be ordered to replace rotten ones. We investigated why we have to pay for all the maintenance of the sides and median of Hawk Ridge Blvd. and found out that the original developer of the community signed landscape easements that our HOA is responsible for. The next meeting will be June 18th at 10:00am.

DEAD TREE POLICY Dead trees on common ground areas will only be addressed if the tree poses a threat of potential damage to a home. Dying trees are a part of nature and are very expensive to remove and replace. Dead trees that do pose a danger to property will be taken down, but will not necessarily be removed if they can be cut and left in a wooded area. Many trees by the clubhouse entrance are also dying and there are plans to have placement trees planted in those locations.
