• OSWAPIC meeting will be held in Bend, OR. On 9/22 & 9/23. Catherine is seeking interested attendees to assist with the HAI Task Force panel discussion.

• Interested individuals are asked to please let Catherine know ASAP if you are interested in attending.

• Catherine is verifying what funds may be available to support travel costs.

Beating VGE Outbreaks with Warding

Dave Brantley BSN ManorCare DON

• Dave shared an overview of their recent experience regarding a VGE outbreak and the success they achieved with warding. Dave outlined the importance of identifying physical barriers in your facility and initiation of control measures immediately.

• Dave outlined challenges related food/meal delivery and linen supply/delivery.

• High level overview of the actions their facility initiated:

o Immediate initiation of VGE outbreak control measures.

o Restricted admissions to identified warding area.

o Provided line lists to CCPH daily. o Ceased activities for the entire facility. o Ceased social dining and infected

residents were provided paper items for their meals to facilitate easy disposal and limit transmission.

o Ceased utilization of the therapy gym and provided therapies in resident rooms.

• Notify CCPH immediately in the

event of an outbreak. They are a valuable resource and help to provide answers to questions you may have to guide your facility response.

• Dave Brantley is available to provide assistance if your facility would like guidance determining physical barriers to help determine warding and/or any additional questions.

Next Meeting HAI Task Force – July 27th, 2:30 to 4 pm at Avamere Cascade Park

o Provided refresher training for all staff related to VGE and control measures

o Initiated more robust bleach cleaning throughout the facility.

o Notified LTCF partners throughout the County to alert them.

o Notified inpatient partners to alert them.

HAI Task Force Charter Review

• All attendees reviewed the current Charter document and were afforded an opportunity to provide feedback and ideas.

• The attendees agreed to add Dana Nguyen as a Co-chair in addition to Catherine Kroll and Dave Brantley. CCPH will be providing administrative assistance. The Medical Center partners will continue to oversee data collection and dissemination.

• Derel will provide information on National data related to the recommended % of healthcare workers receiving influenza vaccination.

• Co-chairs will take the feedback and make the necessary changes to the document.

CCPH Updates

• Derel provided updated information regarding VGE and Influenza. His presentation is available on the HAI website for review.

Scorecard Review

• Limited data was submitted as a result we were unable to develop a formal scorecard.

• Please remember to submit your data to Catherine the first week of each month so she can facilitate development of a scorecard.

Agenda Items for next meeting

• August will be the 4 year Anniversary of this task force.

• Planning for Sepsis Summit in the Fall • Planning for Influenza refresher in September.

• Please share any ideas you have for celebrating the Task Force Anniversary with one of the Co-Chairs.

• Catherine will follow up with Quails and U of W to solicit their availability to participate.

• Derel & Dana will determine if CCPH can coordinate CCPH hosting the September Task Force meeting and provide refresher training in lieu the meeting.
