IXDual-String Retrievable Packer InstallationThis dual-zone, dual-string completion uses an upperhydraulic-set retrievable dual packer and a lower perma-nent packer. The permanent packer and tailpipe are runfirst and set on tubing or wireline. The dual strings anddual hydraulic-set packer are then run with a seal assem-bly on the bottom of the long string. Once the dual stringshave been landed and spaced out at the surface, a ball isdropped or a plug is set in the landing nipple below thepacker in the short string. Pressure is applied to the shortstring and sets the dual packer. If a ball catcher is used,increased pressure causes the collet catcher to release,allowing the ball to drop out the end of the tubing.Circulation of completion fluids is achieved using thesliding side doors above and below the dual packer.

Electric Submersible Pump CompletionsOne schematic shows an electric submersible pumpcompletion that allows annulus gas below the packer tovent to the annulus above the packer. In an emergencyor when desired, hydraulic control pressure is releasedfrom the control line allowing the gas vent sleeve valveto close, sealing the vent gas below the packer. A com-mon hydraulic control line can operate the tubing-retrievable safety valve and annulus gas vent valve.

The other schematic shows an electric submersiblepump completion that allows flow control withoutheavy kill fluids during remedial operations. Adownhole master valve is run with a packer, on/offtool, and wireline lock. The valve holds pressure inboth directions. It closes when the hydrostatic pressureexceeds a preset value and opens when hydrostaticpressure is reduced.

STPP Single-Trip Perf/Pack Completion SystemOne example of the many types of sand controlcompletions Halliburton offers is the STPP Single-TripPerf/Pack Completion System. Separate trips forperforation, completion, and cleanup are not requiredLarge bore sump packers are available that allowmaximum size perforating guns to be used. MPTgravel-pack service tools prevent premature setting ofthe Versa-Trieve packer during perforation, allowingthe packer and TCP guns to be run together. The MPTtool, a non-rotating tool, eliminates the need to rotateto set the Versa-Trieve packer and to perform gravel-pack operations. The Champ packer eliminates theneed to displace the entire wellbore with nitrogen byconfining displacement to the tubing. The OMNIvalve eliminates the need to move tubing to kill thewell after perforating. Throughcontinuous readout data acquisition and remotecontrol, the operator has the ability to monitor andcontrol flow from or injection into multiple zoneswithin real-time.
