Owen GentArtist of the month
Brush strokes and a muted colour palette create landscapes, and solitary figures that incite your imagination to conjure narratives of solitude and longing. You won’t be surprised to hear that Owen’s work is often influenced by literature; most notably a project based on a 16th centaury folk ballard, Molly Bawn. While recently he was commissioned to create an advertising campaign for The Samaritans; an emotive yet sensitive poster series exploring the main causes of depression and most importantly inviting those in need to reach out. owengent.com

La Pirogue CoResist present this poignant film, followed by
a Q&A session around immigration & refugee rights.
17th June, 7-9.30pm, £5 Recommended DonationIn Moussa Toure’s powerful film, a group of 30 men attempt to
sail to Europe in a pirogue - a traditional Senegalese fishing vessel. Through their voyage they face the increasing turbulence of the sea,
the strangers with whom they share their journey, and the possibility of never reaching their destination.
With the recent tragedies in the Mediterranean where hundreds of people have died trying to reach Europe for a better life, coupled with
rising tensions around immigration, CoResist invites you to use this critically acclaimed feature film as a lens through which to explore
these sensitive and compelling issues.coresist.org
