Follows standard ASAP

HANA Add-On plugs in to a standard ASAP structure

Use ASAP steps where appropriate

HANA Add-On only focuses on HANA specific aspects

Specifically, use all ASAP Project Management activities

Note that purchase of the hardware appliance and standard base configuration is not included and is considered a preliminary step

Designed to be combined with other Business Add-ons, and specifically follows Business Analytics Business Add-On structure

Combine with other Add-Ons

Business Analytics Focus All Business Analytics ASAP Business Add-Ons follow a very similar structure and similar naming conventions

“Like” elements can be combined together, and especially initial kick-off, discovery and use-case analysis sessions should be performed jointly

Easily build your custom project plans by combining HANA activities with Business Analytics services of similar naming

Assumes “most-detailed” approach, for (modified) RDS or using pre-built content remove selectively elements not needed

ERP, BW on HANA, CRM, etc. Focus Combine within ERP, BW, CRM, etc. projects to add HANA activities

Structure and naming conventions will be different, but in most cases structure should be obvious

Consider carefully which elements you need. For a BW on HANA implementation that simply migrates the database, there shouldn’t be a need for modeling, for instance

Realize that the HANA Add-On assumes that the HANA appliance is configured prior to Project Start (similar to RDS approach)

SAP HANA 1.0 Project Plan Structure

Business Process Strategic Review

HANA Appliance

The HANA Add-On does not include purchase of the HANA appliance

This is assumed a technical prerequisite and should take place before any Project Team is engaged.

Questions around Production sizing are accommodated in Add-On

Delivery of the appliance requires several weeks lead time

HANA Install & Config

The HANA Add-On does not include the standard self-contained ITTS Install & Configure service of 7-10 days delivered remotely for configuration and patching HANA and SLT setup

Activities associated with Install & Config are assumed to have taken place prior to the start of the Project

Schedule any Install & Config services separate – and ideally in advance, especially Development – prior to Project Start

RDS or Custom Project?

HANA Add-On primarily intended for custom projects

RDS typically has its own implementation methodology

No Blueprint

Fixed Scope

Documented implementation steps

RDS implementations are typically shorter in duration. Verify whether an RDS answers customer needs before proposing a custom project

Solutions don’t consist of a data base, only. HANA is used for reporting/analytics and as system database for SAP applications.

Combine requirements gathering and use case analysis exercises in order to come to a unified Solution Design

Final Preparation No HANA-specific elements have been included for Final Preparation. Standard ASAP activities for Final Preparation apply

The Add-On assumes that at the end of Realization all content has been developed, tested and promoted to the Production environment

Final Preparation prepares the customer for Go-Live

Go-Live and Support No HANA-specific elements have been included for Go-Live and Support. Standard ASAP activities for Go-Live and Support apply

Since all content has been developed, tested and promoted to the Production environment, Go-Live and Support should be a formality, and is no different from other SAP projects

At the end of Go-Live and Support the complete solution of HANA and other components (Business Analytics, SAP applications, etc.) is live in Production
