HANDBALL The court Baseline Sideline Centerline Freethrow line (9m) 7 meters line (7m) Goal area (6m) Goalkeeper restraining (4m) Players There are 7 players in the court. 1 is the goalkeeper and the other 6 are court players. They can be substituted whenever they want. Objective To score more goals than the opposing team. Basic rules DURATION: Two halves of 30 minutes with a break of 10 minutes. If a match ends with a draw and one team must win the match there will be overtime. It has a duration of two halves of 5 minutes. If the match is still tied, the result will be decided by penalty shots. THE THROW-OFF: at the start of the game and after a goal. It is taken in any direction and it is preceded by a whistle (it must be taken in 3 seconds). The teammates of the thrower are not allowed to cross the center line prior to the whistle signal. The opponents must be 3 meters away. After a goal, it’s not necessary to wait for the other team; you can throw-off quickly in order to do a counterattack. THE THROW-IN: it is taken without a whistle and from the spot where the ball crossed the sideline. The thrower must stand with one foot on the side line and remain in a correct position until the ball has left his hand. Opponents must be at least 3 meters away. If the ball crosses the baseline and the last player who touched the ball was a defender court player, the throw in will be placed from the corner. If the last player who touched the ball was the goalkeeper, the goalkeeper will restart the game with a goalkeeper throw.

THE GOALKEEPER-THROW: it is considered to have been taken when the ball thrown by the goalkeeper has completely crossed the goal-area line. After this throw, the goalkeeper can leave the goal area and participate in the game in the playing area. It doesn’t need a whistle.

A GOAL: when the entire ball has completely crossed the goal line, provided that no violation of the rules has been committed before or during the throw.

FREE THROW: for a minor foul or violation (passive play, running with the ball more than 3 steps, holding the ball for more than 3 seconds, endangering the opponent with the ball, restraining or holding, pushing, blocking an opponent with arms, hands or legs,…)

A free-throw is awarded to the opponent at the exact spot the foul took place. If the foul or violationoccurs between the goal area and the 9-meter line, the throw is taken from the nearest point outside the 9-meter line. The thrower must keep one foot in contact with the floor, then pass or shoot.

THE 7-METER THROW: when a foul destroys a clear chance to score or a defensive player enters his or her goal area to gain an advantage over an attacking player in possession of the ball. When a player passes the ball intentionally to the goalkeeper when he/she is in the goal area.

GOAL AREA: Only the goalkeeper can play inside the goal area. An attacker is allowed to jump from outside, play the ball in the air and then landinside. If the goalkeeper is inside, he/she can touch the ball with whole body. The goalkeeper can’t cross the goal area line if he has possessionof the ball but he/she can cross this line without the ball and play like a regular player.

PASSIVE GAME: If a team plays without making an attempt to scoreit’s penalized and the other team restarts the game with a free-throw.

ALLOWED ACTIONS WITH THE BALL: To maintain the ball 3 seconds, to do 3 steps, to dribble, to pass and to shoot

PROHIBITED ACTIONS WITH THE BALL: To hit the ball with the leg from the knee to the foot. To dribble the ball, hold it and dribbleagain is not allowed.

ALLOWED ACTIONS WITHOUT THE BALL: To use the torso to shield the way.

PROHIBITED ACTIONS: endangering the opponent with the ball, restraining or holding, pushing, blocking an opponent with arms, hands or legs,…

SANCTIONSYELLOW CARD: Warning issued, maximum 1 per player, 3 per team.

2 MINUTES SUSPENSION: The team continues without the suspended player for 2 minutes.

RED CARD: Player disqualified for remainder of match, the team continues a player down for 2 minutes.

DEFENSIVE TACTICS:

The main defensive tactics are: Zone defense and man-to-man defense. There is another one that is a combination of the two: mixed defense. It consists of one or two players doing man-to-man defense and the other 5 or 4 players doing zone defense.Zone defense.

Each player is responsible for a zone: 6:0 5:1 4:2 3:3

5:1 or 4:2 tactics could be mixed defense if the 1 or 2 players does/do man to man defense.

OFFENSIVE TACTICS:

There are two main tactics 3:3 and 2:4.
