Welcome my brothers and sisters in Christ to today's celebration of the Holy Mass on the Fourth Sunday of Easter. In the eyes of the
Catholic Church, this Sunday is very special. It has been set aside in the Liturgical Calendar as the "World Day of Prayer for Vocations."
By "vocations," it is meant priestly, diaconal and religious vocations. This is not a denial of the importance of the Sacrament of Marriage.
Rather, it is a time that has been set aside by the Holy Catholic Church to emphasize:
1) Firstly, the importance of the Sacrament of the Holy Orders. Without holy priests in all parts of the world, the faithful in some regions
would be denied access to some of the Sacraments. They would be denied the Real Presence of the Lord Jesus in the Sacrament of the
Holy Eucharist until such time as a priest passes by and consecrates some hosts during the celebration of the Holy Mass. Also, the
believers would be left without the Sacraments of Confession and of the Sick (Last Rites), consequently being unable to maintain their
souls in a state of righteousness until their last breath.
2) Secondly, the Church seeks to emphasize the beauty of the religious life through the consecration of one's mind, heart, body and soul as
a religious brother or sister. While these dedicated individuals are not always in the forefront of the Church, they are the backbone of the
Body of Christ. They assist the priests in secondary functions to free them so they can preach and administer the Sacraments. In some
faith communities, they serve as teachers, nurses, servants of the poor, publishers of Catholic material, etc... Most important of all, day
after day, these consecrated souls raise their voices heavenly, praying for the needs of the Church, for your needs, for my needs, for all
those who otherwise might be forgotten.
Today, the Church calls us to reflect on the meaning of God's call and to pray for vocations. It reminds us that the entire Christian
community shares the responsibility for fostering vocations. One may ask, "What exactly is the responsibility of the Christian community
to foster vocations?" To answer that question, we must review the words of Saint Paul in the Letter to the Romans.
"Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. But how are they to call on one in whom they have not believed? And how
are they to believe in one of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim Him? How beautiful
are the feet of those who bring good news!" (Rom. 10:13-5) From this passage, it is summarized that if someone does not hear the Word
of God, he cannot believe, nor be saved. Equally, unless one is exposed to the calling grace of God, how can he or she know that there is a
calling? It cannot be known!
This week, let us reflect upon today's homily and remember our obligation to foster vocations in our home. Let us remember Jesus' Words
to Peter, "Follow me, and I will make you fish for people." (Mt. 4:19)
Cuarto Domingo de Pascua Bienvenidos mis hermanos y hermanas en Cristo para la celebración de hoy de la Santa Misa en el IV Domingo de Pascua. A los ojos de
la Iglesia Católica, este Domingo es muy especial. Se ha reservado en el calendario litúrgico como el "Día Mundial de Oración por las
Vocaciones. " Por vocaciones "" se entiende sacerdotales, diaconales y vocaciones religiosas. Esto no es una negación de la importancia
del sacramento del matrimonio. Más bien, es un momento que ha sido separado por la Iglesia Católica para enfatizar:
1) En primer lugar, la importancia del Sacramento de las Órdenes Sagradas. Sin sacerdotes santos en todas partes del mundo, los fieles en
algunas regiones no tendrían acceso a algunos de los Sacramentos. Se les negaría la presencia real del Señor Jesús en el Sacramento de la
Eucaristía hasta que un cura pasara y consagrara algunas hostias durante la celebración de la Santa Misa. Además, los creyentes se
quedarían sin los Sacramentos de la Confesión y unción de los enfermos, siendo por lo tanto incapaces de mantener sus almas en un
estado de rectitud hasta el último aliento.
2) En segundo lugar, la Iglesia busca enfatizar la belleza de la vida religiosa a través de la consagración de la propia mente, corazón,
cuerpo y alma como un hermano o hermana religiosa. Aunque estos dedicados individuos no siempre están en la vanguardia de la Iglesia,
ellos son la columna vertebral del cuerpo de Cristo. Ellos ayudan a los sacerdotes en funciones secundarias haciéndolos más libres para
que puedan predicar y administrar los sacramentos. En algunas comunidades de fe, ellos sirven como maestros, enfermeras, servidores de
los pobres, los editores de material Católico, etc. ... Lo más importante de todo, día tras día, estas almas consagradas levantan sus voces
celestiales, orando por las necesidades de la Iglesia , por tus necesidades, por mis necesidades, por todos aquellos que de otro modo
podrían ser olvidados.
Hoy en día, la Iglesia nos llama a reflexionar sobre el significado de la llamada de Dios y a orar por las vocaciones. Nos recuerda que toda
la comunidad cristiana comparte la responsabilidad de fomentar las vocaciones. Uno puede preguntarse, "¿Qué es exactamente la
responsabilidad de la comunidad cristiana para fomentar las vocaciones?" Para responder a esta pregunta, tenemos que revisar las palabras
de San Pablo en la Carta a los Romanos.
"Todo el que invoque el nombre del Señor, será salvo. Pero, ¿cómo, pues, invocarán a aquel en quien no han creído? ¿Y cómo creerán en
aquel de quien no han oído? ¿Y cómo oirán sin quien les predique? Cuán hermosos son los pies de los que anuncian las buenas nuevas!" (.
Rm 10: 13-5) A partir de este pasaje, se resume que si alguien no escucha la Palabra de Dios, no puede creer, ni salvarse. Igualmente, a
menos que uno sea expuesto a la gracia del llamado de Dios, ¿cómo puede él o ella saber que hay una llamado? No se puede saber!
Esta semana, vamos a reflexionar sobre la homilía de hoy y recordemos nuestra obligación de promover las vocaciones en nuestra casa.
Recordemos las palabras de Jesús a Pedro: 'Síganme, y los haré pescadores de hombres.' (Mt. 04:19)
