Pastor Jenny’s Summer Reading Picks

It’s Summer! Time to swim, picnic, take leisurely walks, and

…. READ! Once again, I am happy to share my Summer

Reading picks for 2015. I hope I get the time to read them all!

Let me know if you enjoy them!

“Searching for Sunday” by Rachel Held Evans Like millions of her millennial peers, Rachel Held Evans didn’t

want to go to church anymore. The hypocrisy, the politics, the

gargantuan building budgets, the scandals—church culture seemed

so far removed from Jesus. Yet, despite her cynicism and

misgivings, something kept drawing her back to Church. And so she set out on a

journey to understand Church and to find her place in it. A memoir about making

do and taking risks, about the messiness of community and the power of

grace, Searching for Sunday is about overcoming cynicism to find hope and,

somewhere in between, Church.

“The Energy Bus” by Jon Gordon It's Monday morning and George walks out of the front door to his

car and a flat tire. But this is the least of his problems. His home

life is in shambles and his team at work is in disarray. Forced to

take the bus to work, George meets a unique kind of bus driver and

an interesting cast of characters who, over the course of two

weeks, share the ten rules for the ride of his life. The Energy Bus, an international

bestseller, takes readers on an enlightening and inspiring ride that reveals ten

secrets for approaching life and work with the kind of positive, forward thinking

that leads to true accomplishment—at work and at home.

“Jesus Calling” by Sarah Young

After many years of writing her own words in her prayer journal,

missionary Sarah Young decided to be more attentive to the Savior's

voice and begin listening for what He was saying. So with pen in

hand, she embarked on a journey that forever changed her—and

many others around the world. Jesus is calling out to you in the

same way. Maybe you share the author’s need for a great sense of

“God with you”. Or perhaps Jesus seems distant without you knowing why. Here

is a year’s worth of daily readings from Young’s journals to bring you closer to

Christ and move your time with Him from monologue to a dialogue.
