June 2017
NEW HCC VISION/MISSION STATEMENTS
One of the things that we worked on at our All Church Retreat
several months ago, was developing Mission and Vision
Statements to be used at HCC. We did not want to develop
these just to say that we have them as part of our church
doctrine, and file them away in a drawer. These were
developed to functionally and practically use as a lens to
clearly view our call as disciples of Christ; to make sure that
every decision we make serves our vision and mission as given
to us from the Spirit. After much consideration and prayer, we
have decided upon the following statements, which were ap-
proved by Council at their May meeting:
HCC Vision Statement – “We will embody the love of Jesus
Christ in word and deed to all people through joyful worship,
spiritual growth, and compassionate service.”
These mandates were then further simplified to create a
Mission Statement that is easily identified with and
remembered:
HCC Mission Statement - “Rejoice. Renew. Reach Out.”
I pray that God will continue to bless us as a congregation as
we move forward with renewed conviction and clarity of
purpose.

Worship Schedule
for June 2017
June 4
Worship: Day of Pentecost/Communion Scriptures: Acts 2:1-21; Psalm 104:23-34, 35b; 1 Corinthians 12:3b-13; John 20:19-23
Sermon: “Pentecost Spirit” Each of this week’s texts offer a glimpse of the workings of the Spirit, rather like different facets on a well-cut jewel, each reflecting something new—the same, and different, all at once.
Ushers: Dave & Betty Williams Coffee fellowship: Need Someone
June 11
Worship: Trinity Sunday Scriptures: Genesis 1:1-2:4a; 2 Corinthians 13: 11-13; Matthew 28:16-20 Sermon: “Formed by Love”
Father Richard Rohr says that “we cannot NOT live in the presences of God.” Trinity Sunday offers us the opportunity to reflect on this. It is a time when we look at the nature of God, our communion, and living connection with God as being like a Trinity knot, a form that has no discernible beginning or end.
Ushers: Dave & Betty Williams Coffee fellowship: Dave & Betty Williams
June 18
Worship: 2nd Sunday after Pentecost/Father’s Day
Scriptures: Exodus 19:2-8a; Psalm 100; Matthew 9:35-10:8(9-23)
Sermon: “Compassion” Compassion is at the heart of today’s readings. Jesus sees that God’s liberating justice needs to be spread further abroad, and calls others who followed and learned from him to share in this work. The journey will be precarious and the apostle’s ministry and message will sometimes be unwelcome and unwanted, but those sent are reassured that God’s presence will sustain them.
Ushers: Dave & Betty Williams Coffee fellowship: Dave & Betty Williams
June 25
Worship: 3rd Sunday after Pentecost Scriptures: Jeremiah 20:7-13; Romans 6:1b-11; Psalm 69:7-10(11-15)16-18; Matthew 10:24-39 Sermon: “God and Sparrows”
Jesus proclaimed that God hears the voices of those in need, and responds. He spoke of the hardship that those who follow God’s way of love and compassion would encounter. Those who break through the barriers of injustice do so at a cost, and at times they will be afraid. Jesus reminds his followers, then and now, of the metaphor of the sparrows– that God knows each of them. What’s more, God will be with us no matter what. We are urged to be courageous in what we do.

Youth Summer Service Project
Our Hcc youth are committing to spend one half day

Have something you need done in or out of the
house? Pick up a form on the information table or Call THE CHURCH OFFICE.
Adult volunteers are needed/welcome as well!
Youth Flamingo Fundraiser
How would you like to surprise a friend or loved
one with a flock of pink flamingos roosting in their
yard for a day? Even if you think they are tacky, it
can’t help but brighten someone’s day when they
see they have been “flocked”. Please join us on
this fun adventure as we raise money for our
Mission Fund.
For a small donation, you can have these fun birds
migrate to a house of your choosing:
$10—small flock of 10 flamingos
$25—medium flock of 25 flamingos
$35—super size flock of 50 flamingos
These pink birds will “mysteriously” show up at the
designated house for about 24 hours then will quickly
move on the next friend/victim. We can let your
friend know who ordered the flocking, or it can be
done anonymously.
For those of you that just have an aversion to the
pink-feathered friends, you can purchase
anti-flocking insurance for $30 to guarantee that no
flock of flamingos will roost on your lawn
during the course of this event.
The flocking has begun!! Flock-a-Friend Order
Forms and Anti-Flocking Forms are available at the
church. If you would like to be a part of a “Flocking
Team”, please let Hayley Studer know.

______________________________________________________ Thank you to our wonderful HCC youth for all the work they have done in May. They did a terrific job organizing their Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser. Everything was delicious! And they spent a lot of time writing and looking for appropriate media to use for Youth Sunday. Your hard work and talent is much appreciated! Thanks to our HCC youth parents and Sunday School teachers for their hard work as well! ______________________________________________________ I want to tell you and the good home-town folks at the church how pleased and surprised I was to receive such a thoughtful and meaningful gift of a prayer shawl to comfort me while recovering from my heart troubles and surgery. I have it on my favorite recliner in the living room and will think of you regularly when I sit there in the evenings. Thanks again and may Heavenly Father bless you for this kindness.
