Hello congregants and welcome to the February edition of Hayom. Much has happened in January and much

more is on the way in February. Rabbi Zalman Rothschild, our High Holiday services Rabbi, is coming back

as Scholar in Residence the weekend of February 3/4. The topic is "What is the difference and what are the

similarities between Chabad and what we do at Congregation Agudath Achim?" We are thankful for the dona-

tion from the Tenenbaum Library Fund to make this weekend happen. A wonderful Friday night dinner fol-

lowing service is planned and reservations are requested early as it is catered. A minimal charge of $18.00 per

person helps pay for the catering. A great Shabbat kiddish luncheon is also planned with a continuation and

completion of the topic studied.

Tuesday February 7 at 6:15 is our semi-annual meeting. Come hear what the Board's positive efforts have

brought you, our members. We work very hard to design programs and meals for your comfort. We work ex-

tremely hard to save money where we can without sacrificing programming necessary to keep you content.

The staff works really hard to answer your needs. Please come to hear how we juggle what we do for you.

Friday February 17 is our Shabbat service and dinner for Savannah Hillel and Jewish SCAD students. The

dinner is co-sponsored by Bunny and Jim Montag and Samra and Ron Robbins. The minimal cost of $18.00

per person helps with the cost of food preparation. Please RSVP early as again we hope to have a large atten-

dance.

On Sunday February 26, we are having our progressive dinner. Many new foods are being planned and ca-

tered. We are meeting for drinks and appetizers at homes in the Habersham/Jackson Woods area followed by

dinner and desserts at the synagogue. The social committee has been very active in making this event a suc-

cess. Please RSVP early. The cost is a modest $50.00 per person and will be well worth the expenditure.

On another front, the 5-year plan for our congregation is being thoroughly inspected to insure that what is

written is actually what is needed and what the membership wants. A large committee of members will, after

3 or 4 meetings, provide the congregation membership with a document meeting our goals for our congrega-

tion's immediate and long-term needs. Everyone will have a chance to review and critique this plan.

The Brotherhood has speakers lined up to discuss important issues, and the Sisterhood continuously has func-

tions and programming which meet important needs of our members.

On a physical appearance note, after lengthy discussion, January 21, 2017, saw the beginning of the renova-

tion of the office complex. Not only are the Rabbi's and Motti's

offices being redone, but immediately afterwards the secretarial area is being completely remodeled. We

apologize in advance for any disruption in service but know it is only temporary (perhaps 6/8 weeks total).

The Rabbi search committee in February continues its commitment to all to find a Rabbi. At this writing, 2-3

persons are interesting, and if enough Rabbinical graduates look to Savannah as their new home, a representa-

tion of the committee will travel to New York for the purpose of interviewing them. If not, those interested

will be Skyped.

All education classes for adults are still operating and attendance is good but availability is still there.

Ronnie Ginsberg's Wednesday Minyan, class, and breakfast continues to draw well, as do the other morning

minyans which offer friendship and/or breakfast.

Please come in, the doors remain open for you. As always, I wish all nothing but the best.

Victor Shernoff,

President

DONOR DUES PROGRAM

FEBRUARY2017 SHEVAT-ADAR 5777 Page 5

How do I Send a Mitzvah-Gram? Here are 4 simple steps to do this:

1 Print out the Mitzvah-Gram page from the current HaYom newsletter with the list of people celebrating a birthday or

anniversary in February.

2 Circle the names of all those people to whom you would like to send a Happy Birthday or Happy Anniversary greeting.

3 Mail or deliver your list, along with your check made out to Agudath Achim Sisterhood for $.50 for each circled name, to

Barbara Abrams, 24 Raindrop Lane, Bluffton, S.C. 29909, or leave your list and check in the synagogue office.

4 Make sure to include your name(s) the way you want it (them) listed.

In order for your birthday and anniversary greetings to be delivered in a timely manner, everyone needs to turn in March’s Mitzvah-Gram

sheet by the 15th of February.

If you have any questions about this project, please contact me at [email protected], or at (843) 705-3723 or (843) 290-3995.

Thanks to everyone for participating in this exciting program.
