ARE YOU FAMILIAR WITH HEAD BIDDING?We’re assuming you’re familiar with the concept of Head Bidding (skip this slide), but if not:

Head Bidding uses the prebid.js library to allow publishers to create an auction with multiple demand sources to bid on your ad inventory. This auction will increase the chance to serve an impression at a higher CPM rate because multiple demand partners are competing for the placement in real-time rather than having one single waterfall advertiser bidding for that impression.

Publishers also benefit by tripling their page load speeds of their site by eliminating traditional waterfall sequences where there are typically a minimum of three to five partners in the waterfall chain. With one ad call, multiple placements can be filled on a single web page.

WHAT IS HEAD B IDDING?

IN SHORT…

HIGHER CPMs

HIGHER FILL RATES

FASTER PAGE LOADS

3 PUBLISHERS RESISTING THE HEAD BIDDING MOVEMENTYou DON’T want to be one of these guys in 2017

DFP DOUG

WATERFALL WALLY

GOOGLE-ONLY GREG

Page 4: Header bidding by Headbidding.com

4

DFP DOUG’S SITUATION‣ Runs DFP tags across all of their pages with

just ADX and Adsense competing.

‣ Answers every AdOps related question with “sounds great, but will it work in DFP?”

Page 5: Header bidding by Headbidding.com

5

WHY DOUG NEEDS TO CHANGE‣ Unless Doug creates over 400 line items,

ADX is not really competing with Adsense the way it could be.

‣ After 3-5 page views during a user session, Doug’s demand pool starts underperforming.

• Weak competition for Doug’s traffic.

• Low performance after 3 page views.

Page 6: Header bidding by Headbidding.com

• HIGHER CPMs!

• No performance drops after 3 pageviews!

6

DFP DOUG, WE’VE GOT YOU COVERED‣ We’ll create those line items for you,

creating and forcing ADX to truly compete!

‣ We will add 36 premium Demand Partners to compete for your traffic!

7

WATERFALL WALLY’S SITUATION‣ Runs waterfalls with 3 - 6 ad network

partners in each ad placement.

‣ Usually uses Google as a “catch-all” tag at the end of each waterfall.

‣ May be paying high costs using a 3rd party ad server.

Page 8: Header bidding by Headbidding.com

8

WHY WALLY’S LOSING MONEY!‣ He is not giving the demand partners an equal opportunity

to compete for his traffic (only 1 partner sees “first look”).

‣ On every “passback” setup, Wally is dropping 11-23% of his traffic to servers not communicating properly.

‣ If a passback happens, his site will slow down by at least 2000 milliseconds.

‣ He is paying high costs for 3rd party ad serving.

• Limiting CPM rate potential.

• Dropping traffic that could be sold.

• Losing users to SLOW page loads.

Page 9: Header bidding by Headbidding.com

• HIGHER CPMs!

• No more dropped traffic!

• FASTER page loading for greater pageviews!

9

WALLY, WE’VE GOT A PLAN FOR YOU! ‣ We’ll make your 3 - 6 Demand Partners into 36 partners!

‣ Every Demand Partner will see “first look” impressions, boosting CPMs!

‣ By dropping the passbook setup, Wally’s site will load faster and stop dropping traffic!

‣ Eliminate 3rd party ad serving costs!

10

GOOGLE-ONLY GREG’S SITUATION‣ Hard codes only one tag in each ad

placement (Adsense or ADX)

‣ Swears by Google, even when he gets hit with one of those chargebacks with vague explanations as to why they happen.

Page 11: Header bidding by Headbidding.com

11

GREG, THIS IS NOT GOOD…‣ Google advertisers are getting a BARGAIN

price on Greg’s traffic.

‣ When Google sees high pageview user sessions, performance drops.

‣ Low performance on below-the-fold mobile placements.

‣ High potential for an eventual chargeback.

• Limited demand = limited CPMs.

• Low performance on high page view sessions.

• All his eggs are in one basket.

Page 12: Header bidding by Headbidding.com

• HIGHER CPMs!

• No more bargains on Greg’s traffic!

• Stronger performance on higher page view sessions!

12

WE CAN GET GREG, BACK ON TRACK!‣ We’ll diversify Greg’s demand pool, adding premium DSP

partners that rival Google’s programmatic position!

‣ We’ll keep both ADX and Adsense in the competition so Greg’s relationship with Google will remain healthy!

‣ Stronger CPMs with below-the-fold and lower viewability placements!
