Class news

Red: We have been finding ways to help Mr Grinling from our focus book this week: The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch. We have used a basket and pulley system to deliver his lunch to him across the ‘sea.’ We have written lunch menus for him to decide what to eat—so far he could have watermelon, chocolate or fish-fingers! Yum yum! Yellow: We have been using out knowledge of traditional fairy-tales and descriptive language to create some fabulous character descriptions. In computing we are learning how to animate fairy-tale characters and create scenes. We’ve also been incredibly creative and have been designing our own coats of arms to symbolise our families and friends as part of our theme on castles. Blue: We are really enjoying our new class book and have completed some wonderfully descriptive pieces of writing based on the savannah. In maths we have been learning about money and counting-on to make sure we get the right change. We love spending time in our reading corner, which is a castle in our classroom, with a drawbridge!

Year 3: “My favourite part of this week was maths because I learnt a new way to add. I am more confident now,” Sara “I loved science this week as we experimented with mirrors and light,” Habiba “I also really enjoyed finding out about reflections in science,” Zara.

Year 4: We have been engrossed in our book for Literacy and have enjoyed exploring the characters, using adventurous language. In maths our focus has been developing a variety of methods of multiplication and division. Alongside this, we have learnt why the Romans conquered and who was involved in the events. Year 5: We have been sketching plants and flowers to inspire our sculptures to link with our theme of landscapes. In science we have been learning about gravity and we designed and made parachutes, testing their suitability for purpose. We have also been writing really thoughtful prayers of intercession, reflecting on issues in our local area and around the world. Year 6: This week, have been using our trip to Kidzania to inspire us, when writing job adverts in a career of our choice. We have been brainstorming persuasive devices and learning about how to punctuate bullet-pointed lists consistently. In RE, we have been looking at the similarities and differences between the Christian and Muslim understanding of creation, and have been drawing circuit diagrams in Science. Miss Rowlandson was incredibly impressed by how well we performed our 'BalletBoyz' dance routine as a class in PE - we looked like professionals!

Y3 Tag Rugby. We were very proud of our

Y3 rugby stars as they performed so well in

the tournament run at Surbiton School

Grounds. Although they did not win any of

their games, they played brilliantly as a team

and their determination and behaviour were a

credit to the school. ‘Agur the Tagger’ will

now become part of St. Paul’s folklore as a

result of his great efforts and speed on

the field. Well done to all involved!

Traffic Survey

Year One are learning about tally

charts and so have been conducting

traffic surveys and counting the

number of vehicles on the Hook

Road. They worked well with their

partners to count the correct number.
