Here We Grow Again!...And we’d like your help! Pueblo Community Health Center is ready to increase clinic space at 300 Colorado Avenue to continue meeting the needs of our patients and others in our community in the coming decade.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (ACA) a.k.a. “Obamacare” has presented many challenges, but also abundant opportunities to our organization. As of January 1, 2014, Medicaid has been expanded cover people that earn up to 138% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). Of PCHC’s patients, nearly 96% of them live at or below 200% of FPL. Early estimates in the community are that Pueblo County will have an increase of 10,000 newly eligible for the coverage.
Private physicians, who serve the insured patients well in the community, may limit their Medicaid and Medicare patient panels. PCHC believes this creates a tremendous need for our clinic (since we gladly accept Medicaid, Medicare, and uninsured patients) to continue enrolling those in need of a medical home.
Groundbreaking on the new addition to the Colorado Avenue Clinic began on May 5th. We will be adding 7,000 square feet of patient care space and it will enable us to serve at least 7,800 new patients over the next several years. The project’s estimated cost is $1.6 million and is expected to take six months from groundbreaking to completion.

Letter from the CEODear Friends,
Welcome to the first edition of Pueblo Community Health Center’s (PCHC) newsletter. Our goal is to keep you informed about our growth, development, and how we are meeting our mission: To provide primary health care to those in need. Through this newsletter we will let you know how we are making a difference in people’s lives, improving the health of the community, increasing access to care, and notifying you of health center events and activities.
PCHC has grown considerably in the last decade. Today we are the primary care home for over 28,000 Puebloans who have access to high quality care, delivered in state of the art facilities, by the best trained professionals in the field. As our population ages, and more people gain insurance coverage, the need for access to quality care will grow. PCHC is responding to this need as we speak. The first week of May we broke ground on an expansion of the Colorado Avenue Clinic which will enable us to serve at least 7,800 more patients. You can read about the expansion details within this newsletter.
It has been with your support and encouragement that we are able to enhance the quality of life in Pueblo. We are proud to serve the community and we are proud to call you a supporter. Thank you.
With gratitude,
Donald MooreChief Executive Officer
How You Can Make a DifferenceSince 1983, regardless of a patient’s ability to pay, PCHC has served the health care needs of the people of Pueblo and Huerfano counties. If you would like to help us continue to expand services that include primary medical care, dental, behavioral health, and pharmacy, we invite you to make a contribution to our Community Capital Campaign.
Funds raised via our campaign this summer and through the end of 2014 will go directly to the cost of building the expansion. No donation is too large or too small. Everything we raise will make a difference in the lives of the people we care for and who trust their health needs to our providers.
If you would like to learn more about naming opportunities or planning for larger gifts, please contact Laura Kelly, Chief Development and Foundation officer at (719) 543-8718 x 152 or email [email protected]. We appreciate your support and are grateful for your interest in PCHC.
