INDIAN HEALTHCARE:A PATIENT'S VIEW
India is already witnessing the emergence of an informed, engaged and empowered patient, rightly called the healthcare consumer. This has happened not just with the shift in technology but also due to societal and cultural shifts that are driving changing expectations as well as the realization of an increasing burden of the costs of care. Transformative market forces coupled with rapid advances in digital technologies, will further place the consumer at the center of an increasingly virtualized, personalized and delocalized healthcare system.
Healthcare organisations in India need to respond and adapt to these changing dynamics by successfully engaging with the healthcare consumer through business models based on quality of outcomes and digitized processes that address consumer demands for product customization and more informed care decisions.
FICCI HEAL 2017 is an endeavor to bring the perspective of a patient- the healthcare consumer, to the forefront. The conference will provide a platform to enable a two-way communication between patients and healthcare providers through its unique sessions to help pave a path for the transformation required in the Indian healthcare ecosystem and facilitate the healthcare stakeholders to adapt to the growing trend of patient centricity.

“There is a high variance in the quality of service available. Some private hospitals provide world class facilities, so much so that people from other countries come here for treatment giving impetus to medical tourism. On the other hand, is the lack of access to even basic medical care for many people particularly the poor and disadvantaged. Our healthcare system has to be developed to cater to medical requirements of all sections of society, both in rural and urban areas.”
At the inaugural address at FICCI HEAL 2012
“There is an urgent need to develop a forum for healthcare providers and professionals to engage in meaningful and interactive discussions with the government entities to enable the transformation and re-engineering of the Indian healthcare industry. The healthcare sector is moving in the right direction and 'Speed, Scale and Skill' are needed to keep the momentum of the drive alive.”

11:45 – 13:00 Panel Discussion IGovernment Policies: Roadmap for the next DecadeThe National Health Policy, launched in 2017, has given a hope for constructive reforms in our healthcare ecosystem including a further increase in health budget. This session will provide a platform for a candid dialogue between representatives of the Government, the private sector as well as the healthcare consumer on the healthcare policies and how they are expected to unfold in the future.Chair: Shri C K Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, GoI
13:00 – 14:00 Lunch
14:00 – 15:15 Panel Discussion IIRole of Media: Bridging the Trust Deficit in HealthcareThe vision of Universal Healthcare requires seamless collaboration and engagement among key stakeholders – regulators, government, public and private practitioners across the value chain, clinicians and the civil society. Media, with its reach and all-pervasiveness is best placed to remove information asymmetry, build positivity and critique ill-conceived policy and practices, eventually leading to a positive enabling environment for a well-functioning healthcare system. Given the above construct, this Panel will deliberate on some of the issues like media neutrality.

FICCI HEAL 2017Network. Learn. Grow.
15:30 – 16:45 Panel Discussion III Building an Ethical Organisation: Dealing with the Challenges with-in Is there a conflict between the business goals of ‘’for profit’’ healthcare services providers and ethical delivery of care? If
yes, how do we ensure that shareholders get reasonable returns on their investments while patients receive the highest quality of care at affordable costs in an environment, which is ethical and caring. The session will deliberate on the building blocks of an ethically driven healthcare system and the dilemmas that care providers and the hospitals face every-day.
16:45 – 16:50 Health Break
16:50 – 17:00 Presentation on the Knowledge Paper
17:00 – 18:15 Panel Discussion IV Empowering Patients with Technology Driven Care With the massive growth in technology driven consumerism, there is a huge opportunity for Healthcare to leverage delivery of services by effective use of technology. This session will highlight the shift that technology is bringing so that patients are now in the driver’s seat instead of being at the receiving end. This goes beyond just being better informed through the internet. The big question is, “are healthcare providers also facilitating this shift by making patients participate in the decision making about their own health?” 19:30 – 21:00 FICCI Healthcare Excellence Awards 2017 21:00 onwards Networking Dinner
9:30 – 10:40 Panel Discussion V Financing Innovations for a Healthier India In order to sustain the growth seen in the sector in the past few years and further encourage entrepreneurs to focus on
“patient centric” solutions, it is imperative that adequate financial investments keep flowing into the sector. Diversity of funding, be it in terms of risk appetite, time horizons, focus areas or return expectations, would be critical in meeting overall funding requirements as well as fulfilling needs currently unaddressed by traditional financing mechanisms. The session will deliberate on how the investment can be sustained.
10:40 – 11:50 Panel Discussion VI New Wave of Transparency: Pricing in Healthcare Soaring and varying healthcare costs have made the healthcare consumer more price conscious. While there are
regulators pushing for price control, they might not be accurately reflecting a healthcare provider’s pricing position as they have only a partial view of the data required. Adopting a strategy to provide clarity in pricing is crucial to increase patient engagement, safeguard doctor-patient relationship and optimize revenue in a health ecosystem. This session will inspire a conversation to help build a sustainable and transparent healthcare ecosystem.
11:50 – 12:05 Tea Break
12:05 – 13:15 Panel Discussion VII Integrated Healthcare Models This session aims to share experiences and knowledge by experts to go beyond the traditional mindset of delivering care.
With healthcare in India becoming the centre stage of politico- economic deliberations, it is even more important for all stakeholders to weigh the pros and cons of spreading elements of integrated care extending throughout the life span and also touching the end of life phase through palliative or home care support.
13:15 – 14:00 Lunch 14:00 – 16:00 Special Session: MiTalks ‘Health and Humanity’ MiTalks is an opportunity to explore ideas that can define the future, reveal new perspectives and make the world a better
place. This session aims to bring to stage pioneers and change makers in a TED style series of talks on the future of"health and humanity". The importance of health is often best understood in its absence. Our speakers who are travelling from various parts of the world, will share their stories of grit, empathy, survival, laughter and technology - in the context of session’s theme. Their journey shared in short TED style talks, will help listeners re-imagine their own future.

“There is a need to bring in new technology and adapt it according to the requirements of the Indian healthcare system. Re-engineering in the thought process is needed to bridge the gap between the available technology and its use. The public and private sectors must work in tandem to scale up innovations in the sector and provide affordable and quality healthcare to all.”
