Administrator’s Accents Happy New Year and Welcome 2021! 2020 has finally ended and what a year it was for all of us, challenging to say the least. The holidays have come and gone, and we know how hard it was on you. The staff did all they could to make the holiday season here as special and festive as possible. We appreciate all you have had to sacrifice but mostly, we appreciate the trust, faith, and love you have in us. It is our privilege and honor to be here for you. Here is hoping that 2021 will bring us all together to hug, laugh, socialize, and to get reacquainted again. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you this year! Personality Profile Elaine was born at home in Buffalo, daughter of Marion and George Basil. Including Elaine and all her siblings, they had enough for a baseball team (9). Growing up, she attended Catholic schools and graduated from St. Mary’s. She met her husband, Art, on a blind date watching the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. After dating for several years, they were married and soon began their family. Their family grew to six children and provided a challenge for Elaine, since her husband’s job often had him travelling from Monday to Friday. Every Friday though, they would enjoy a pizza at Cappola’s Restaurant. When their youngest started school, Elaine decide to rejoin the work force. Over the years, she has worked at a loan company, St. Francis Hospital, Mercy Hospital and the Bon Ton. She always loved interacting with people. Elaine enjoys reading, non-violent movies and gardening. She currently serves as Resident Council President and carries a 150-plus average at Wii Bowling. She always has a jigsaw puzzle in the works and during the summer months, is unquestionably Heathwood’s most avid walker. Heathwood Emphasis Heathwood Williamsville recently became the only assisted living in New York State to receive the 2020 Silver Award for “Achievement in Quality” from the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/ NCAL), our national health care association. This award recognizes progression from commitment to achievement to excellence. The award program is a three-step process that encourages continuous learning, development, and execution of integrated quality systems to achieve performance excellence. The criteria for each step are based on the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program. Penfield and Williamsville both won the first level, the Bronze Award in 2016 and 2018, respectively. We are extremely proud of the three quality awards we have won over the years and look forward to building on this tradition! *Julie Kumiega addressed the group and gave a Covid virus update. She shared some information about her background and stated that her door is always open and she welcomes visits. *Kristen Carosi solicited feedback about Thanksgiving. Those in attendance felt it was handled very well and Dining staff should be commended. She welcomed ideas for plans for the upcoming holiday meals.
