Hebrews

2 Thessalonians

The Epistle to the

Hebrews

• Written around 70 A.D.

• The Church believes that this is a letter from St. Paul.

• The style of writing is different from his other epistles.

• This is due to different possibilities…

2 Thessalonians

• “But as for myself, if I were

to state my own opinion, I

should say that the thoughts

are the apostle’s, but that

the style and composition

belong to one who called to

mind the apostle’s teachings

and, as it were, made short

notes of what his master

said.”

• “If any church, therefore,

holds this epistle as Paul’s,

let it be commended for this

also. For not without reason

have the men of old time

handed it down as Paul’s.

But who wrote the epistle,

in truth God knows.”

2 Thessalonians

The Epistle to the

Hebrews

• Written to Greek

speaking Jewish

Christians.

• These Greek

Christians lived in

Palestine.

• Many returned to

Judaism because of a

low view of Our Lord

Jesus Christ.

2 Thessalonians

• Christ is superior to the prophets, angels, Moses and Aaron.

• He offers a better priesthood, sanctuary, and sacrifice. For in His worship, we enter heaven.

• The substance of Faith in Our Lord must be solid and strong.

death from

continuing.” (Hebrews 7:23)

2 Thessalonians

• “For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us…” (Hebrews 9:23-24)

• “But Christ came as

High Priest of the good

things to come, with the

greater and more perfect

tabernacle not made with

hands, that is, not of this

creation.

• Not with the blood of

goats and calves, but

with His own blood He

entered the Most Holy

Place once for all, having

obtained eternal

redemption.” (Hebrews 9:11-12)

2 Thessalonians

• “Therefore it was necessary that the copies of the

Levi

The NT

Priesthood

of

Melchizedek

• Limited to One tribe.

• Power is incomplete.

• Sacrifices have to be

repeated, is not a

perfect sacrifice.

• Cannot reconcile

people to God,

because it consists of

men who also sin.

• Christ is God

incarnate, immortal

and sinless.

• Power is strong and

effective.

• His sacrifice is offered

once and for all.

• Priesthood is able to

transform humanity.
