Psalm 139:13-‐14, “For You [Elohim] formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.”
JEHOVAH – “__ _____” The God Who Always Is Jehovah or Yahweh is the name that occurs almost 7,000 times in the Bible. You can learn to recognize it when you read your English Bible because it is always translated in all capital letters: “LORD.” In Hebrew, this name is only written with 4 Hebrew letters YHWH It is nearly impossible to properly pronounce this name for God. The ancient Hebrews considered this name for God so holy that they would not even attempt to pronounce it. When Jewish scribes were transcribing the Scriptures from scroll to scroll, whenever they would come to the name YHWH, they would put down their pens, take a ceremonial bath and clothe themselves with brand new garments, take a brand new pen and write the name YWHW, and then take both the pen and their clothes and burn them. This was the same ritual they would go through whenever they came to this name for God. I AM simply means “The God Who Always Is.” Yahweh also means that He is “Self-‐Sufficient” – He doesn’t need you, your service, or your worship – He simply allows you to serve Him. This name was first revealed to Moses at the burning bush. Exodus 3:14, “And God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’ And he said ‘Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.” Because God is Jehovah, this speaks of His ability to work in your ______________. God often does things that we don’t understand—but that doesn’t mean that He isn’t in the moment. Over in Hebrews 11, the Bible says that Abraham “BY FAITH” knew that God was in this moment. God sometimes puts us in situations to grow and stretch our faith—so that our faith will grow stronger. God will not cause us to face a test unless He knows we are ______________ of passing it!Abraham’s faith sustained him through those moments when God didn’t make sense – and he continued to trust God.
