My Project: Prepare for Surgery class
BackgroundThe Prepare for Surgery Program is a holistic pre-surgical
program currently based on a Peggy Huddleston model. In the two hour class, patients learn:
To prepare their mind and body for surgery
To prepare their homes for recovery
To decrease anxiety and increase comfort in order to speed recovery.
The class covers many relaxation techniques and gives patients a comprehensive overview of their stay in the hospital.
Goals/Objectives
As part of the process of the change from a Peggy Huddleston Program to a Lourdes branded program:
Prepare research-based surgery specific patient education handout for pre and post care.
Map out process of patient throughout hospital for each procedure
Assist in development of CDs and brochuresResearch how to create study to evaluate
effectiveness
Responsibilities
Project Mentor: Nurse Coleen NaylorCreated surgery-specific educational
handouts for patients coming in to class.Created database for updating surgery
statistics for the program’s evaluation.Researched on different studies conducted on
holistic health practices and their effectiveness.
