New lodge dedicated BY JOHN CONLEY Associate Editor Twin Falls celebrated the grand opening of its Cardinal Wing under skies as sunny as the resort's prospects The $7 million-plus ex- pansion, which doubled the number of rooms, built a spacious new lobby and added an indoor pool and exercise facility, got things going in style. The Acord Family played music prior to the dedication ceremony, and refreshments were served in the courtyard. "It's a big day for us," said Park Superintendent Scott Durham, who re- counted the park's history. Since the new wing opened, revenue is up 50 percent over the same time last year, he noted. He also paid tribute to the park employees and their role in making the expansion happen. "Twin Falls is blessed with a staff that rises to every challenge," Durham stated. Sen. Richard Browning said he and Rick Staton, who were both in the House of Delegates, pushed to keep the expan- sion project moving for- ward after the initial funding was awarded in 2005. He credited Sen. Bill Baker, whom he said "car- ried our water" in the early days. The original $3 million allocation for the expan- sion led to a design that "wasn't much more than what we have now." Browning said he asked to see another design in a meeting with the architect and was shown something he liked a lot more—and cost a lot more. The senator said he and Staton "started pouting" and held up some bills then Governor Joe Manchin wanted to see passed. Eventually, he remem- bered, Manchin called to find out what the problem was. The Governor proposed a Hatfield-McCoy Trail connector to the park that would make the project more viable. Christy Laxton, execu- tive director of the EDA, told the board of directors last Thursday. Wyoming County will submit a list of projects for visiting Scouts to work on over a five-day period, she explained. She suggested that the EDA establish a fund for the purchase of materials needed for the projects. "Wyoming County has to supply the materials for all projects," Laxton com- mented. Water and rest rooms also have to be provided, she noted. In other business, Lax- ton reported that the EDA has had 28 business con- tacts for its loan programs. "Some are local, some are from the northern part of the state," she ex- plained. The kinds of businesses have varied, Laxton indi- cated, including a pizza restaurant, ATV, auto re- pair and others. saw from junior-to-beBrett Bowling. "He workshard," the coach re-marked.The East big men had

their moments as well."When Taylor Smith ismoving, he's good," henoted. "(Marcus) Schofield is

our x-factor. He's tooquick for bigs to guard andtoo big for guards toguard."Next year's shootout
