    SCHOOL

    BAND

See our children and be proud with us. THere they are, kids who had never even seen amusical instrument in their pre-school years, nowplaying beautifully in our school band, "'"hey aretalented kids. Being introduced to their instruments October '83 they plundged in, eager tosucceed. Of course, the first two months broughtonly deep shrill screeches but by Christmas theywere playing Maryhad a little lamb.

The big surprise for Christianville staff, parents and visitors came onDedication Day for the new church. (You will read about Dedication in thenext issue) On that momentious day the band appeared in long red pants, white dress shirts with bow ties to the amazement of all they playedthree beautiful hymns!

Tears were plentiful... even big men were wiping eyes.Yes, we ail were.Proud of our kids ? You bet!

But there was a force behind it all. Ram Hardy wasthe leader and she did a great job. Thanks Ram forall the patience we know it took. Boys are boysand we know he job was not easy. But look now...God blessed ^very effort and our kids are winners.

What of the f iture ? They can make a living frommusic in Ha'ti, Teachers are scare and goodmusicians are needed. There is much to be offeredin church m.j3ic areas and our kids are beingtrained to sei'^/e. Their Spiritual lives are growingwith their education and the future looks bright.Yes, be proud with us and keep the kids in yourprayers.

  • FISH HOOKS?

Fish hooks ? No these fish won'trespond to them. This is a matter ofnetting them in. It has been a greatproject thus far and a lot fo fun. Firstthe net had to be made. (U.S.A.I.D.had already seen to it that the pondwas stocked with baby fish). Thenwhen we had tested and found thatthe fish had grown enough, the bigday came for the catch.

    KIPANDJUNIOR WITH 2^/2 POUNDERS

First the net was stretched out across the width of the pond... 165 feet. Then it wasdropped into the water with the floats holding the lead-cord on top of the water'Sinkers took the lower part to the bottom and the men drew the net down the pondfor the catch at the other end. Ail eyes were fixed for the catch - everyone was veryexcited. After fifteen minutes of work they reached the end, drew up the net, and ioi...there was one fish in it i The fish had slipped away under the net. There was laughterand fun like we hadn't seen in a long long time. But later, we succeeded.

Yes, we caught nearly three hundred fish in alland the school children enjoyed their share. But success day was also cleaning day. Kipand Junior led the work team and even theiryoungest son Heath did his share. It was com-parltively a small catch and we hope to domuch better when the chicken project is in fulloperation. Remember, the chicken droppingsare full of partly digested corn and that is thefood the fish need. We're off to a good start!

    HEATH HELPS, TOO.

Boys and girls, God's Wordsays... "The poor shall nevercease, therefore I commandthee, saying open thinehand wide..." Deut. 15:11.This is vvhat you have beendoing opening your handwide to help our hungrybabies. Here in our pictureyou see some of the littleones whom you are helping. Many of these little oneswho belong to Jesus, wouldnot live if they were notgetting help. Please remember the children in yourprayers.

h;ach week our Nutrition ladies load up the horse that will carry food up themountains to the outpost. There they will cook for the babies and teach the mothershow to care for them. They will also give them food to cook for the other days of theweek

II is a long hike up there but our ladies are Christians and they are happy to go andhelp the little hungry children.

Want to know a surprise ? We are planning to open a new kindergarten in September. We will la-.e children from 3 to 5 years old who have been getting strong from beingin thi? Nutrition feeding. You see, after they get well, they have to leave so that othersickly babnes can come in.

But when they go backhome there will still not beenough toed, it we can havethem III Kindergarten wecan feed them and keepthem strong that theywill loar-i better when theydo come to school. Weknow yuij will be glad toheartnis

    Sometimes they are sick

  • and have to go to the hospital. Like littleContave who Is now having Typhoid Fever. Our family has given blood for a transfusionfor him and we are praying that God willspare his life. We visit him every day andshow him we care. Our children are all onvacation but they come each day for songsand a Bible lesson before their dinner. If youwere here we would let you help us pass outthe plates of food. Now that would be fun, wouldn't It I

Jean Augustine takes his music veryseriously. He loves to play that saxiphoneand you would too, if you had the chance. We think he is a lucky little boy and so doeshe. Augustine takes his school workseriously too, and we like those A's that wesee on his report.

Hey kids, look at all that corn ! That's Wayne supervising the boys In spreading theicorn out on our roof-top to dry in the sun. When the field of corn was ready to reap, our school boys did the picking. That was 2 days of fun for them ! Bag after bag wasstacked into the truck, and hauled up to our course. After the corn dried it wasremoved to the yard where a machine picked off all the little kernels. Now thecorn is ready to grind into chicken feed and it will then be a great help in the chickenproject. Soon we hope to have more eggs for our children.
