HERMISTON SUPER OVAL 2012 RULE BOOK

These rules are in effect as of January 1, 2013.

This publication supersedes all previous Hermiston Super Oval rule books and rule updates. HSO reserves the right to alter or amend the rules and regulations in the interest of safety, cost control, and/or fair competition. It is the responsibility of each competitor to read and understand the contents of this rule book. If there is a disagreement or dispute regarding the meaning or application of these rules, the decision of the Chief Technical Inspector shall prevail. The rules and regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum requirements for such events. These rules shall govern the conditions of HSO short track events, and by participating in these events, all participants, guests, race members and staff are deemed to have complied with these rules and/or regulations. No express or implied warranty of safety shall result from publication of, or compliance with these rules and regulations. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to participants, spectators or others. In the event of a serious or fatal injury, HSO reserves the right to impound race cars for review and evaluation, and may exercise this right at anytime. The Chief Technical Inspector shall be empowered to permit minor deviations from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that, in his opinion, do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements. No pretense is made for having designed a foolproof set of rules and regulations. The spirit and intent of the rules is the standard by which HSO short track events will be governed. HSO tech officials are authorized to decide if an equipment change or modification is an attempt to circumvent these rules. HSO officials can and will disqualify a race car in violation of the spirit and intent of these rules. If this rule book does not specifically state that you can alter, change, or otherwise modify something on your car, you should consider it a violation of these rules. Illegal components may be confiscated and become the property of HSO. No part is deemed to have been approved by HSO by passing through prior technical inspections. All participants, guest and crew members fully understand that racing is inherently dangerous and that they are exposed to risks of death or serious bodily injury. The participants, guest and crew members voluntarily assume these risks.

Hermiston Super Oval FLAGS

GREEN: Go, go, go… the race has started or restarted. YELLOW: Caution, slow down to the pace car speed. No passing or racing under the yellow. HSO does not race back to the yellow, slow down immediately. RED: Emergency; the race has stopped. Stop right where you are at and wait for further instructions. Remain seated at all times, except in case of fire. YELLOW W/RED STRIPES: This is the “re-‐do” flag. Something went wrong with the last start. Return to your previous starting order and let’s try again. BLUE W/YELLOW STRIPE: This is the lapping flag. Stay to the bottom and let the leader(s) go by on your outside. BLACK: Uh-‐oh… you have done something wrong and the flagman is letting you know about it. A rolled up black flag shaken at you is your warning to stop doing whatever it is that you were doing. A full, open, waving black flag means you are receiving a penalty and must return to pit road. Blatant disregard for the black flag will result in disqualification, monetary fines, and/or indefinite suspension. BLACK FLAG W/RED DOT: “Honk, if anything falls off.” …Mechanical black flag. This flag means something is wrong with your racecar. Something may have fallen off, or it is smoking, leaking, etc. This flag means return to pit road. WHITE: One lap to go. This is your last chance. CHECKERED: Everybody knows what this flag means… Race is over. Slow down, safely exit the track, and return to your pit.


Hermiston Super Oval RACING RULES

PIT ENTRY: No driver or crew member is allowed in the pits under the age of 14 (Except with an INEX membership for the purpose of bandolero racing). Any persons entering the pits under the age of 18 must have a HSO minor release form properly completed before entering. All minors are subject to track approval. All adults must sign the HSO release form and be “checked in” before entering the pits. There is no glass, no drugs, and no open flames allowed in the pits. The opening and consumption of alcoholic beverages is strictly prohibited until after the final awards ceremony of the night. DRIVER APPARELL: Drivers must wear a clean fire suit, with no holes or tears that covers the entire body, on the track at all times. It is required to wear a minimum Snell 2000 rated approved racing helmet at all times on the race track. It is recommended that all Drivers record blood type and RH factor, plus any major medical allergies to adhesive tape label to outside back of helmet. Racing approved seat belts and window nets are required. A neck brace/restraint, fire resistant gloves, fire resistant shoes, fire resistant underwear, and fire resistant head sock are recommended. CHECK IN: All participants must present their race car(s) to the Chief Technical Inspector before the driver’s meeting on race night. Any driver that does not present their car to tech before qualifying will receive only one (1) qualifying lap. DRIVER'S MEETINGS: All participants must attend every driver's meeting. HSO reserves the right to penalize any driver not in attendance at the driver’s meeting by placing him/her at the rear of the field for their heat race or feature event. Spotters should also attend each driver’s meeting. TECH INSPECTION PROCEDURES: All cars are required to pass a pre-‐race technical inspection before entering the track. If a driver should have any questions or concerns about the legality of the car(s), it is the driver’s responsibility to talk to the Chief Technical Inspector. Post race inspection procedures are explained at each driver’s meeting. PRE-‐RACE LINE UP: All cars must line up in the designated staging area prior to their respective qualifying, heats races and feature events. Any car not staged, and ready to go when the race is called on to the track may be prohibited from starting in that race. The Race Director may allow that car to enter a subsequent heat race or feature event in the rear of the field. Driver and car are considered one for the entire night, unless the Chief Pit Steward is notified of a change. In the event that a car drops out of the line up before a race begins, the cars behind that car will be moved straight forward (no crossing of the rows). A car must complete the parade lap on the track to receive last place points. INITIAL RACE STARTS: All initial race starts take place on the front stretch when the green flag is displayed. All initial starts will be double file, nose to tail starts at the speed of the pace car. When the green flag is displayed cars may not pass the car in front of them until crossing the start/finish line. Any car passing prior to the start finish line will be penalized to last place on the lead lap at the next caution or the end of the race, whichever comes first. In the event that a start is waived off, the yellow flag will be displayed as the cars enter the backstretch. Any car deemed to be intentionally slowing the field on


a start, shifting on a start, or moving out of line prior to the green flag will be sent to the rear of the field. RESTARTS: The lead car restarts every race. It is the lead car’s responsibility to accelerate at any point between the two stripes painted on the track in turns 3-‐4. If the lead car elects not to accelerate between these two stripes, the Chief Starter will display the green flag and racing may begin. Cars may not be in the act of passing the car in front, to the left, prior to the start/finish line. A car is deemed to be in the act of passing, if the front bumper is even with or in front of, the rear bumper of the car in front at the start/finish line. On restarts only, a car may pass to the right prior to the start/finish line after the green flag is displayed. Any car deemed in the act of passing to the left, or passing to the right prior to the green flag being displayed, will be penalized to last place on the lead lap at the next caution or the end of the race, whichever comes first. All restarts will be single file* in a nose to tail formation maintaining the speed of the pace car, until the green flag is displayed (*except Super Late Models). Any car deemed to be intentionally slowing the field on a start, shifting on a start*, or moving out of line prior to the green flag will be sent to the rear of the field. Drivers choosing not to go to their designated positions at an official’s request may be sent to the rear of the field or to the pits at the Race Director’s discretion. PACE CAR: When the pace car lights go out, the race will be going green the next time past the designated starting spot. It is each driver’s responsibility to be ready to start at this time. All starts and restarts must be at the speed of the pace car. The leaders must maintain this speed throughout the entire start or restart. Failure to maintain the proper speed will result in the lead car being sent to the rear of the field. Any car called to track exit for consultation with an official may be permitted to pass the pace car during caution periods. JUMPING ON STARTS AND RESTARTS: Any driver who begins racing, passing, or is not in a nose to tail formation before the green flag is displayed, will be penalized for jumping. Any car not in the nose to tail formation is subject to jumping penalties. Any driver considered jumping will be penalized to last place on the lead lap at the next yellow or at the end of the race, whichever comes first, on the first jump start. If a driver is caught jumping a second time in the same event, they will be relegated to the pits. Any car deemed to be intentionally slowing the field on a start, shifting on a start*, or moving out of line prior to the green flag will be sent to the rear of the field. CAUTIONS: At the race director’s discretion, a caution may be displayed at any time during the race, including the white flag lap. It is the race director’s decision to conclude a race under caution due to time or time limits allowed for an event. The race director may also, at his/her discretion; reduce the posted number of laps because of time limits or a division not being able to run consecutive laps without cautions. YELLOW FLAGS: HSO does not count yellow flag laps. No yellows will be counted towards the race’s total lap count. ACCIDENT RULES: Anytime multiple cars make contact and cause a yellow flag, one or more cars may be sent to the rear of the field. The Race Director will make this decision, based on their view of the incident.


3 CAUTION RULE: Any driver that causes three yellow flags per event, for any reason, will be black flagged from the event and relegated to the pits. Stopping to avoid an accident does not constitute causing a caution. The Race Director makes the final determination regarding this rule. SPIN OUTS: Drivers that spin out must try to continue immediately and not stop the race. The Race Director reserves the right to penalize any driver one (1) lap for intentionally stopping a race. ROUGH DRIVING: Any driver who is observed causing other drivers to spin or lose control of their car during a race or the cool-‐down lap, may be warned, fined, disqualified and/or suspended indefinitely at the track’s discretion. This rule also applies to lapped cars choosing to re-‐enter the event. RESPECT OTHER DRIVER’S EQUIPMENT! PASSING: It is the responsibility of both the overtaking and overtaken driver to assure safe passing at racing speeds. A driver being overtaken must give the overtaking driver a lane to race in. A car is ruled to have lost a position when the overtaking car’s hood pins are even with the driver’s side door of the car being passed. BLACK FLAG: A black flag will be given to any driver that is losing a part on their racecar, smoking/leaking badly or to assess a penalty. Lost parts include front or rear bumpers, hoods, body panels, etc. When a black flag is displayed, that driver should immediately report to hot pit lane for consultation. Decisions on black flags will be made at the discretion of the Race Director. PITTING DURING A RACE: Any driver who pits under yellow will restart at the end of the longest line. Hot pit lane may be used for the removal of loose body parts or other minor repairs only. WORKING ON CARS: All work on the racecar must be done in the pit area or any area, which is designated by the officials at the driver's meeting. No crew members are permitted on the race track at any time except if requested to be there by an official. LAPPED DRIVERS: All lapped cars must move to the INSIDE groove to permit faster cars by them. On restarts, lapped cars should remain in the field in their position unless they choose to go to the rear of the field. Drivers choosing to go to the rear will remain lapped. If a driver is shown the "move over" flag (blue with yellow diagonal) and does not move out of the racing groove to allow faster drivers to pass, a black flag will be displayed to that driver. CARS MOVING THROUGH THE PITS: Cars moving through the pits will do so with extreme caution and will maintain below the pit speed limit. Any driver deemed to be driving dangerously, erratic, or in excessive speed for the circumstances will be fined, disqualified, or suspended indefinitely. No one (except the driver) is allowed to ride in or on the racecar at any time. DRIVER SAFETY: Drivers may not get out of their cars while on the racing surface, except in an emergency such as a fire, fuel leak or severe accident. All drivers will adhere to the direction of all safety personnel. Drivers may be requested by track officials to get out of their cars by the track for special promotions. CAR NUMBERS: Single and double digit numbers are recommended. Three digit numbers are permitted. Numbers must be at least 18 inches high and positioned on both sides of the car, in the center of the door, and on the roof of the car. Numbers must be contrasting in color, compared to the


car’s color, and professional in appearance (No tape or spray paint). Each car must also have a number displayed on the upper right corner of the front windshield and the rear bumper portion of the car at least 5 inches tall. DRIVER/CREW BEHAVIOR: Any driver or crew member causing a disturbance at the flag stand or on the track with any official will be suspended from the next event, multiple events, or indefinitely. No driver or crew member may be under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any other controlled substances while competing at HSO. Any impaired driver or crew member will be suspended. DECALS AND ADVERTISING: HSO reserves the right to assign or restrict the display of decals, identification or advertising on race cars. Contingency sponsor decals must be in place to receive awards and/or prize money from contingency sponsors. HSO reserves the right to ask any competitor to remove decals and/or advertising deemed by track officials to be in poor taste or otherwise detrimental to the betterment of the sport. DRAIN PLUGS: Check all drain plugs and gas caps before every race to minimize caution periods and to enable all of the drivers more track time for their events. Any competitor oiling down the racing surface due to a missing drain plug is subject to a fine and/or disqualification from the entire schedule of events for that night/season. HSO and your fellow competitors appreciate your cooperation and attention to these items. Any situation not covered by these rules will be dealt with at the discretion of the race officials and their decision is FINAL. The promoter reserves the right to change any rule at any time. The most important rule at this event -‐ HAVE FUN!


Hermiston Super Oval HORNETS

Construction Rules

Racecievers are required for all classes that do not run two way radios. This is an entry level racing class. These are bomber compact cars, called “HORNETS”. This is a beginner class. The primary purpose of the class is for learning and fun! These are bomber compact cars and are supposed to be a “stock car.” Any four-‐cylinder passenger car that came from the factory with seating capacity for at least 2 persons and a maximum of one hundred one (101”) inches wheelbase may be used. Rotary engines, turbos and 4 wheel drive/ all wheel driver vehicles not allowed. Dual overhead-‐cams okay. Stock OEM Factory Carburetors Only. No aftermarket or Holley carburetors allowed. OEM Fuel injection system for year make and model allowed. No modifications. Must have stock OEM ECU. Head tech official reserves the right to swap out or confiscate ECU as per his discretion. Engine must come stock in Make/Model/Year of car. No swaps from different years. Remove the carpet, head liner, door panels, and all interior, except driver’s seat. Leave dash intact. Remove head and tail light glass, and all window glass except windshield. A lexan windshield is okay with two support braces. Tires must be of stock DOT 400 tread wear tires and have tread showing across the complete face of the tire, however, shall be no wider than six inches (6”) new or six and one-‐half inches (6.5”) used, and shall not extend beyond the body, NO RE-‐CAPS or RACING TIRES. Wheels are to be a maximum of six inches wide. All camber shall be three-‐fourths of one-‐inch (3/4”) Maximum. Ride Height minimum five (5”) inches. No trimming of body panels allowed without tech personnel approval. NO ANTI-‐FREEZE in cooling systems. Cars should be brightly painted (try to avoid dark colors!). Cars numbers are allocated by the track and are on a first come first serve basis. Single and double digit numbers only. Motors must remain stock. No adjustable timing gears or pulley allowed. Stock air cleaner required. Rearends must remain unlocked. No welded or posi rearends. A fully charged dry chemical or halon fire extinguisher must be mounted inside the car within reach of the driver. We understand that “hornet” style cars originally had a “T” bar “demolition” style roll bar. Many of these cars have already upgraded to a 4 point cage or more. This is recommended. Please remember, this is a high speed, 3/8 mile super oval, so, all roll cages will be teched for safety. Additional bars may be required by tech or promoter after initial inspection for safety.


Roll bar recommendation. It is recommended that they should be made of 1-‐3/4” by .095 wall thickness roll bar tubing. All cages must be made of good quality material with neat appearing welds and gussets. No screw couplings allowed. Roll bars must be welded or securely fastened inside the car to the floor pan and braced on the rear main bar. All roll bars have to have three (3) sissy bars on the driver’s side connected with three (3) vertical bars in the center, with a minimum of two (2) sissy bars on the passenger side. A center roof bar is optional. All cars must have a rear safety bar attached to the main cage to protect gas tank. The right hand side of the roll cage cannot come over any farther to the left than the right side frame rail. Right of the cage must be vertical and parallel to the frame. An outside door bar on the driver’s side is optional. Install a minimum of 6” x 3/8” steel plate, located in the center of the driver’s door to extend a minimum of 12” in the front and rear. Round off the outer corners. Bar to be bolted with a minimum of four ½” stove bolts with a 6” square backing plate. Brush bars, rub rails, and any other external reinforcing bars outside of the car will not be allowed. Car running electric fuel pumps MUST mount a clearly marked on/off switch within 6 inches of the driver’s door. Driver must be able to reach switch when securely fastened in with seat belt. A brightly painted, solid square of at least 4 inches square must surround the switch All Seats to be securely fastened to the floor. The back of the seat has to be securely fastened to the roll bars. A padded area must be directly behind the drivers head on the roll bar(s). Seat should not be able to move in any direction. Racing seats are recommended. All seats are subject to tech approval. Gas tanks shall have a minimum of two additional metal straps holding them in place, besides the factory ones, and are subject to tech approval. Battery to remain in stock location and securely fastened, or if moved must be located behind driver in battery box securely fastened, covered and fastened in two ways, with one seat belt each way. The seat belt end must be bolted to floor of the car. No milk crates, wooden boxes, etc. will be allowed. Hood latch MUST be removed and a minimum of two hood pins to be used to retain hood. You may remove the hinges, but MAY NOT trim hood or attempt to “lighten” hood. Drivelines must be painted white. Driveline must have a metal strap or chained loop maximum 12” behind front u-‐joint. Other than transponders, race cars will not be permitted to carry ANY onboard computers, micro controlled processors, recording devises, electronic memory chips, digital readout gauges, or traction control devises. Mufflers must be securely fastened and in working order. Loud mufflers will not be tolerated, ninety-‐five decibels at one hundred feet (95 Db at 100’). All exhaust must be muffled in stock location; exhaust must extend of 3 feet past the muffler, and exit underneath the car behind driver downward.

Construction Rules Racecievers are required for all classes that do not run two way radios. COMPETING MODELS Available with a four cylinder engine. No all-‐wheel-‐drive, four-‐wheel drive or four-‐wheel steering No turbochargers and superchargers allowed. No convertibles, pickups or roadsters allowed. WEIGHTS Minimum weight, including driver… Front engine, solid axle, rear wheel drive: 2100 lb Front engine, front wheel drive: 2200 lb Front engine, independent rear suspension: 2400 lb Any drive train layout with fuel injection: 2400 lb Volkswagen with air-‐cooled engine: 2000 lb Tube Chassis Pro4 Style Car: 2400 lb Rotary engine powered: 2500 lb In fairness of competition, the board may adjust minimum weights on specific cars. 56% maximum left-‐side weight. ENGINES 1. Only standard production four-‐cylinder engine for make allowed (Ford to Ford, VW to VW, Honda to Honda, etc). 2. Rotary engines permitted with no internal modification and no port or polishing of intake and/or exhaust ports. Maximum of two rotaries a. Weight – 2,500 pounds minimum for rotary engines. 3. OEM block only. Modifications allowed. 4. Internal parts – modifications allowed, aftermarket allowed. 5. Maximum 2600cc overall displacement. CYLINDER HEADS 1. Cylinder head must be OEM for make of car. No racing heads allowed (i.e. Yates, Ford Motorsports, Cosworth, etc). 2. Porting and polishing allowed only on two-‐ and three-‐valve per cylinder heads only. No porting or polishing allowed on four-‐valve heads or fuel injected engines. 3. Four-‐valve heads to be used on correct cc motor as per factory. 4. Any aftermarket or OEM valve-‐train component allowed. INTAKE MANIFOLDS 1. Modifications, aftermarket and adapters allowed. CARBURETORS 1. Any single two-‐barrel carburetor allowed – 500cfm maximum 2. Choke horn may be removed.


3. Air cleaners are mandatory at all times. 4. Must have at least two return springs. 5. Air-‐cooled Volkswagen may use any dual-‐carb setup with up to 40mm bores. FUEL INJECTION 1. Fuel injection allowed 2. Must be for stock make and model of engine. No swapping of injection system from other families.Must be stock OEM, including throttle body, fuel rails, injectors, sensors and wiring for that specific engine. Computers must be make-‐to-‐make; may have provisions for adjustability. No aftermarket ECU. 3. ECU must be mounted in an easily accessible and visible place. 4. ECU must be inspected and sealed by tech before being allowed to race and will be inspected for seal at each event. 5. All fuel injection components are to be proven legal by the car owner. 6. ECU on any fuel-‐injected car may be claimed for $200 by the club or any club member participating in that event. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM 1. Must have working starter at all times. 2. Crank-‐triggered ignitions allowed. 3. Battery must be mounted securely in an approved battery box, subject to tech. 4. All batteries must be mounted behind driver and as far to the left as possible. 5. Battery not permitted in the fuel cell area, subject to tech. 6. Alternator optional. 7. No in-‐car adjustable ignition timing within reach of the driver. 8. No magnetos. 9. Aftermarket distributors allowed, MSD boxes allowed. COOLING SYSTEMS 1. Cars must have an approved catch or overflow tank, cannot be mounted 2. No antifreeze or ethylene glycol coolants allowed water only. Water-‐Wetter allowed. LUBRICATION 1. No dry sump systems. EXHAUST SYSTEMS 1. Mufflers required at all times. 2. Any exhaust system routed thru car must be covered in a neat and safe manner, subject to tech. 3. Must be securely mounted. 4. Maximum noise level allowed is 92dba at 75 feet, subject to individual track rules. 5. Exhaust must extend behind driver and exit outside of car. TRANSMISSION 1. OEM standard for make, adapters allowed. 2. Must have working first and reverse gears. 3. Scatter shield mandatory steel or approved blanket/belt, subject to tech. 4. Starter mounting position must remain same as stock. 5. Front wheel drive vehicles may not use posi-‐traction or limited-‐slip differential.


REAR WHEEL DRIVE – DRIVESHAFTS 1. Must be stock production for make. 2. Must have two straps or chains fastened to floor of vehicle to keep driveshaft from becoming dislodged. 3. Must be painted white. FRAMES 1. Original frame rails required; no lightening, may be reinforced. 2. A firewall of a minimum of 20 3. Original front fender wells and strut towers may be removed. 4. Stock unaltered firewall must remain in original location. 5. Stock original floorpan must be intact from front firewall to rear firewall and from rocker panel location to rocker panel location. Must be attached to stock firewall as per factory. 6. Severely rusted floors may replaced using steel of like thickness to patch those areas only. 7. Tube chassis Pro4 style cars can be run at a weight penalty SUSPENSION 1. Must be per manufacturer (strut to strut, coil to coil, leaf to leaf, etc). 2. Reinforcing allowed. 3. May be lowered. 4. Coil-‐overs allowed. 5. Springs optional; must be per manufacturer type (i.e. leaf, coil, torsion bar, etc). 6. Weight jacks, screw jacks and adjustable sleeves allowed. 7. Sway bars optional; one piece bars only. 8. Spindles and/or steering knuckles must be OEM or direct replacement, aftermarket allowed. 9. Control arms – modifications allowed, aftermarket allowed. 10. Stock suspension mounts may be slotted, adjustable and/or heavy duty but must remain in stock location. 11. Shocks and/or struts must be steel bodied only, heavy duty allowed. Must be similar to OEM. May be adjustable. 12. Shock and/or strut mounts may be extended for travel. May not protrude thru body. 13. Adjustable camber/caster plates allowed. 14. Panhard bar allowed; may be adjustable. 15. – of stock. STEERING 1. Steering racks or boxes may not be moved or repositioned from stock OEM location. 2. Steering wheel hub must be padded. BODIES 1. All cars must have complete bodies, trunk/deck lids, hoods, fenders, etc. 2. No car will be allowed to run more than one week without fenders lost in previous competition. 3. All bodies must be installed on frame as per manufacturer and in stock location (excluding pro4 cars) a. Bodies may be changed to a different model with prior approval of the Outlaw Compact Board.

Cannot extend outside of body lines. 3. Side Nerf bars not allowed GLASS 1. Windshields are mandatory – must be mounted in original position and within windshield cavity. 2. Glass windshield must be securely mounted with four safety clips – two top and two bottoms. If polycarbonate is used, windshield must be riveted in a safe manner, subject to tech. 3. Mirrors must be mounted within the body lines of car. 4. Quarter and back windows may be replaced with polycarbonate (Lexan), no glass or acrylic. 5. All front glass must be removed except windshield. SEATS 1. Aluminum racing seats mandatory; no homemade seats allowed. 2. Approved headrest mandatory. 3. Must be securely fastened to roll cage with two bolts at top and four bolts at bottom, subject to tech. 4. Padded rib protection and seat leg extensions are recommended. SAFETY BELTS 1. Quick-‐release lap belt no less than three inched wide is mandatory. Both ends of the belt must be 2. Shoulder harness no less than three inches wide is mandatory and must be mounted from behind the that will prevent the harness from sliding side-‐to-‐side. Harness inertia reels are not allowed. 3. Where the belt passes thru the seat, a grommet must be installed or edges rolled and/or padded to prevent the belt from being cut or frayed. 4. Fuel cell mandatory and must be mounted in the trunk area in a safe and secure manner, as close to the firewall as possible, subject to tech approval. 3. Electric fuel pumps allowed. If mounted in the rear area, pump must be protected by a skid plate, subject to tech. Oil pressure override recommended.


4. No aluminum fuel tanks or cells. 5. Maximum fuel capacity 12 U.S. gallons. 6. Fuel vent lines and/or filler necks must be equipped with check valve. 7. Extra tanks, cells or lines, concealed or otherwise are prohibited. 8. Steel firewall of no less than .20 gauge steel must be located between the fuel cell and driver 9. No glass or plastic fuel filters allowed BRAKES 1. All cars must have four wheel brakes in operating condition. Tilton style dual master cylinder with brake bias allowed one proportioning valve per car. 2. Rotor must be stock; no home-‐built drilled rotors. WHEELS AND TIRES 1. Wheel width eight inch maximum. 2. One-‐piece steel or tech approved aluminum wheels only. 3. No wheel spacers between wheel and hub. 4. Must run track specified tire. Hoosier 7.0-‐13” RIB 800 Compound Roll bars are required and should be made of 1-‐3/4” by .095 wall thickness roll bar tubing. All cages must be constructed of good quality material with neat appearing welds and gussets. No screw couplings allowed. Roll bars must be welded or securely fastened inside the car to the floor pan and braced on the rear main bar. All roll bars have to have three (3) sissy bars on the driver’s side connected with three (3) vertical bars in the center, with a minimum of two (2) sissy bars on the passenger side. A center roof bar is optional. All cars must have a rear safety bar attached to the main cage to protect gas tank. The right hand side of the roll cage cannot come over any farther to the left than the right side frame rail. Right of the cage must be vertical and parallel to the frame. Front Hoop is recommended and is subject to approval by the Chief Technical Inspector. A fully charged, operable, dry chemical, CO2, or Halon, two pound (2 Lb.) minimum fire extinguisher is required. Other than transponders, no radio, computer, onboard computers, micro-‐controlled processors, electronic memory chips, digital readout gauges or traction control devices recording or communication or any other equipment of any kind allowed in race cars, without promoters approval.


HERMISTON SUPER OVAL Mini Stocks

Construction Rules Racecievers are required for all classes that do not run two way radios. This is a 4-‐cylinder class and is a step up from hornets. These are front and rear wheel drive race cars with a full floor pan and minor modifications made to the engine, exhaust, body, suspension, etc. Any one hundred one (101”) inch wheel base maximum four passenger sedan type car, foreign or domestic, and equipped with a four cylinder carbureted or fuel injected engine. All cars shall be brightly painted and maintained in a neat manner. Primer is not acceptable as paint. Dents are to be kept to a minimum. Minimum weight for rear wheel drive cars are 1 lb per cc. For example, a 2.3 Liter would need to weigh 2300 lbs. Minimum weight for front wheel drive cars are 1.25 lbs per cc. For example, 1.8 Liter would need to weigh 2250 lbs. If running a solid camshaft, add 100lbs. If running fuel injection add 150lbs. No car is to weigh greater than 2700 lbs. All cars are subject to a 56% left side MAX. Any four cylinder automotive type engine GM to GM, Ford to Ford, Toyota to Toyota etc. No porting or polishing. All heads must be OEM and have OEM part number casting. No machining, sanding, acid dipping, or gasket matching of intake, combustion chambers, ports, exhaust ports, lifter bores, or intake manifolds. If the engine came with a factory hydraulic camshaft, you can convert to flat tappet (solid) with 100lb penalty. Absolutely no roller camshafts and no roller lifters. No dual overhead cams. Any stock transmission allowed; must be Ford to Ford, Toyota to Toyota, etc. Any stock appearing flywheel, one disc, and stock appearing pressure plate allowed. No aluminum flywheels. No ram couplers, no gold stars. All heads will be stock, except milling for compression okay. Must use stock lifters. Stock cast iron OEM exhaust manifolds required. Stock OEM header okay with a single 15 lb piece of lead bolted to the right front frame rail or cross member. Stock intake manifold required with no machining. Welded intake manifolds must be pre-‐approved by the Chief Technical Inspector. Carburetor adapters Okay -‐ 1.25" maximum. Cannot have more than one carburetor. Carburetor cannot exceed 500 cfm. No down-‐draft or side-‐draft carburetors allowed. Air cleaner required. No super chargers, no blowers, no injectors, no nitrous, and no turbos.


Any coil type battery ignition. No magnetos. Battery must be strapped both ways. A marked kill switch must be accessible from the driver’s side window. Any rear end, but it must be bolted in stock location. Weight jacks allowed. Locked rear ends optional. No quick changes or lockers. Caster and Camber must be within 1-‐3/4” of neutral. Struts must be maintained in stock location with allowance for reasonable adjustment within 1" torching or cutting of springs, use of lowering blocks optional. Stock suspension, coil to coil, leaf to leaf, torsion bar to torsion bar. ALL cars shall have accessible tow hooks front and rear. No aftermarket accessories, except weight jacks. Ride height will be four and one-‐quarter (4 1/4”) inches minimum. Strut stabilizers are allowed and shall be made of no more than 1” material. A vertical bar may be used from the frame to the back or top of the strut tower on each strut. A horizontal stabilizer between these bars may also be used. Outside auto bodies to remain stock with floor pan used. Can trim inner and outer fender panels for reasonable tire clearance. No fiberglass parts unless OEM, except nose and hood. Original stock floor pan and frames will be maintained. Front firewall will remain stock. Front firewall holes must be patched with steel. All exhaust must be muffled and meet tracks decibel requirements, in stock location and exit underneath the car behind driver, parallel to frame, No exhaust outside frame rails. No exhaust pipes above floorboard. Exhaust must extend a minimum of 3 feet past the muffler. Hoods must have hood pins only, NO BOLTS! Fuel cells required, and must be securely fastened, and encased in 20 gauge steel. All cars with electric fuel pump must have a main kill switch. Switch is to be mounted on the center of the dash, inside a four inch by six inch (4" X 6") bright yellow area with easy to read on and off instruction. The bottom of the fuel cell must be above the bottom of the rear bumper and be a minimum of twelve inches (12") from back bumper and mounted securely, subject to tech approval. The filler neck must not protrude from the body shell. Fuel cell shall not be in driver’s compartment. No fuel pumps in driver’s compartment. Any fuel lines through driver’s compartment must be surrounded in metal pipe or conduit with no connections. All cars must have a steel firewall between driver and the fuel cell. Driver’s compartment must be sealed. Battery is to be securely fastened either in engine compartment or passenger side floor board, or behind driver seat, subject to tech approval. Trunk floor shall have a cut out for adequate drainage for trapped fuel. Roll bars are required and should be made of 1-‐3/4” by .095 wall thickness roll bar tubing. All cages must be constructed of good quality material with neat appearing welds and gussets. No screw couplings allowed. Roll bars must be welded or securely fastened inside the car to the floor pan


and braced on the rear main bar. All roll bars have to have three (3) sissy bars on the driver’s side connected with three (3) vertical bars in the center, with a minimum of two (2) sissy bars on the passenger side. A center roof bar is optional. All cars must have a rear safety bar attached to the main cage to protect gas tank. The right hand side of the roll cage cannot come over any farther to the left than the right side frame rail. Right of the cage must be vertical and parallel to the frame. Front Hoop is recommended and is subject to approval by the Chief Technical Inspector. Radiators must have a one gallon metal catch can securely fastened or be run into the exhaust no further than three inches (3") from manifold. Excessive water dumping will be cause for the black flag. Radiator must be in stock location. No anti-‐freeze allowed. Aluminum racing seat only, no fiberglass of plastic seats. Five point harness safety belts are required. Window nets are required. All open drive lines will have a metal strap or chain loop twelve inches (12") behind front universal joint (U-‐joint). Strap or chain must not exceed three inches (3") below the drive line. A one hundred and eighty (180) degree scatter shield is required on all cars and must be located underneath the car between the bell housing and the floorboards. Scatter shield must start at the back of the block and extend a minimum of twelve inches (12") back over bell housing. Reinforced belt material is acceptable three-‐eighths inch (3/8") minimum thickness. Drive line to be painted white. Must run track specified tire. Hoosier 7.0-‐13” RIB 800 Compound. Tires must be run as from manufacturer, no softening, additives or any adulteration. Steel or aluminum wheels allowed. No wheels can be wider than seven inches (8"). No tires to extend outside the body of the left side of the car, one (1”) inch maximum allowed on the right side. 1. Competing Models a. Open to stock American manufactured passenger cars. Minimum 104” OEM wheelbase.

Rear wheel drive only b. No sport cars, trucks, convertibles, T-‐tops or jeeps allowed. Cars must be factory stock

dealer showroom production with no alterations unless specifically stated otherwise in the following rules.

2. Weight: a. 9lbs per cubic inch, 2800 minimum 3400 maximum with driver. b. Maximum 55% left side weight with driver c. All added weight must be securely fastened and painted white with legible car number

3. Engine: a. Only OEM cast iron V8 or V6 available for Make (GM-‐GM, Ford-‐Ford, Mopar-‐Mopar).

4. Fuel:

a. Stock OEM cast iron intake manifold only. No modifications allowed. GM# 14096242 is not allowed. No high rise or marine manifolds allowed. Maximum 1” spacer or adapter combined for the carburetor.

b. Stock OEM production 2bbl carburetor or Holley 4412 (500) 2 bbl carburetor only, must be box stock. NO modifications except choke may be removed. $300 claim on all carburetors.

c. Gasoline only. d. The stock fuel tank must be removed. Must be replaced with an approved fuel cell. Must

be mounted in trunk, near the front, as to e protected from a rear end collision. 10” minimum clearance measured from ground to bottom of cell. Cell and container must


be mounted in cage constructed of minimum 1” square steel tubing, minimum 3 tubes from front to rear under cell, 1 side to side in front and back of cell. Minimum 2 steel straps or tubes mounted on top.

e. Fuel lines must exit from top of cell/tank only. Fuel lines may be allowed in drivers compartment in a one inch conduit. Fuel fill must be made by opening trunk.

f. Stock type mechanical fuel pump only. No electric fuel pumps.

5. Electrical: a. 1 battery only. Located front of rear firewall, behind driver. Must be enclosed in a steel

or heavy duty marine box. Must be securely mounted to floor subject to tech mans approval.

b. Stock type distributor with 1 coil. No crank trigger, magnetos, or aftermarket spark control boxes of any kind.

c. A main battery cut-‐off switch, made of metal, located in center of dash, accessible from both window openings, is required. Must disconnect ALL power from car.

6. Cooling a. Must use factory type radiator in stock location, aftermarket aluminum radiator

allowed. b. An approved radiator overflow catch can. 1 gallon capacity is required. c. Manual or electric fan is okay. d. Water only. No antifreeze or ethylene glycol allowed.

7. Exhaust:

a. Exhaust manifolds must be stock cast iron OEM from a standard production car. 2” maximum diameter exhaust manifold. If over 2” you must run a 12” length of 2” ID exhaust tubing a maximum of 24” from exhaust manifold. No header or header types allowed.

b. Mufflers required, exhaust must extend beyond driver and exit to rear of the car.

8. Drive Train: a. Any OEM transmission may be used. Stock converter. No stall converter or racing

converters. Must be standard diameter for make of transmission. b. All forward gears and reverse gears must work. No gears may be removed or lightened.

No racing transmissions. c. Rearend must be mounted in stock location. 9” ford allowed in all makes d. Open or locked differentials allowed. NO lockers or ratchet type differentials allowed. e. One hundred eighty degree scatter shield required on all cars mounted under floor

boards. Reinforced belt material is acceptable three eighths inch (3/8”) thickness minimum. Entire transmission hump must be covered if belt material used. Scatter shield must run from firewall to rear of transmission on all automatics.

f. Driveshafts and universals must be steel and must have a metal strap or chain loop, twelve inch (12”) maximum behind front universal. Strap or chain must not exceed three inches (3”) below the drive line. Drive line must be painted white for safety.

9. Clutches


a. OEM designed clutches only. b. NO multi disc clutches c. NO race designed clutches, including lightened, or specifically designed to change

integrity of weight from stock design. d. No aluminum flywheels e. Aftermarket or OEM hydraulic clutch pedal or slave assembly okay.

10. Suspension

a. Springs must be OEM type. Springs may be cut and/or heated. Spring spacers allowed and may be adjustable. Cars with leaf springs may use lowering blocks.

b. 5” minimum ground clearance without driver c. All suspension components and location points must remain stock to make and model. d. No exaggeration caster or camber. Maximum + or – 1½” as measured with car parked on

level surface, with carpenter square against bottom of wheel to top of tire e. Stock OEM style shock in stock location

11. Steering:

a. Must be OEM per manufacturer for make, model, and year. b. All steering components must be OEM stock in typical arrangement and location. c. OEM or aftermarket power steering pumps allowed.

12. Brakes:

a. 4 Wheel working brakes required at all times. b. Factory OEM type brakes and pedal assembly only. c. Vacuum booster may be removed.

13. Chassis:

a. 5” minimum ground clearance b. Original floor pan and firewall required unaltered. Must be complete and intact. c. Rear firewall must be minimum 20 gauge steel and is required between fuel cell and

drivers compartment. d. Roll cages are required and should be made of 1-‐3/4” by .095 wall thickness roll bar

tubing. All cages must be constructed of good quality material with neat appearing welds and gussets. No screw couplings allowed. Roll cages must be welded or securely fastened inside the car to the floor pan and braced on the rear main bar. All roll cages have to have three sissy bars on the driver’s side connected with three vertical bars in the center with a minimum of two sissy bars on the passenger side. 14. Bodies


a. All car bodies must be strictly stock OEM, and have complete bodies, hoods, fenders and bumpers and be of good appearance and condition. No cars will be allowed to run the next race date minus fenders or bumpers lost in previous competition.

b. Bodies may be solid mounted to the frame. c. Complete bumper to bumper steel unibody must be retained. d. No lightening of any body components allowed, except for front inner door panel for

clearance for roll cage installation. Cars deemed excessively gutted and/or lightened may be subject to weight penalty per tech mans discretion.

e. All external trim, moldings, handles, etc. must be removed. All upholstery, sun visors, and flammable material must be removed.

f. Bumpers in stock location, with no reinforcing, but secured with a minimum two straps to body. May use aftermarket front and rear bumper covers but must be of same generation car.

g. Full fenders mandatory. Wheel openings may be enlarged up to 3” for tire clearance. Rear fenders/quarters must be completely sealed to provide a firewall.

h. Doors: Must be secured by bolting or welding shut. May be replaced with 20 gauge steel. Must have brake in door (No flat sides).

i. Stock steel hood and trunk lid may be gutted. Must be pinned. No bolts. j. Windshield: required. May be replaced with 1/8” minimum lexan. 3 metal straps

required behind windshield, attached from roof to cowl, minimum 1/8” x 1” with minimum 5/16” bolts. A rubber strip required between strap and windshield.

k. Windshield tabs of 1” x 3” x 1/8” required, 3 on top, 3 on bottom spaced at least 12” apart required.

l. Glass: all side and back glass must be removed. All lamps; head, tail and side must be removed. Any broken glass must be cleaned out of the car.

m. Seat: Drivers seat must be replaced with an approved racing seat. All drivers must meet all safety rules listed in the general rules.

n. 4” spoiler allowed. Width of trunk lid only. Stock OEM Camaro OK. o. No exterior nerf bars allowed.

15. Wheel and Tires

a. Steel racing type wheels only. 8” maximum width. b. 5/8 lug bolts and nuts required on all wheels. c. No tires to extend outside of body on left side of car. Right may extend no more than 1”. d. Hermiston Super Oval approved 15x7” 790 compound Hoosier tire only. e. No tire soaking or softening allowed.

Construction Rules

SUSPENSION AND CHASSIS

Frames: Maximum overall width outer sidewall to outer sidewall is 86” (eighty-‐six) Minimum wheelbase, center of spindle to center of rear axle is 105” (one hundred five)

A-‐Arms: Top and bottom A-‐Arms must be steel. Aluminum cross shafts and strut supports are allowed. All construction is subject to technical inspection.

Chassis Adjustment: No driver controlled chassis adjustments in cockpit of race car No independent rear suspension No open tube rear-‐ends No in-‐board brakes Brake bias adjustment is allowed

Weight Overall weight, all chassis designs = 2,500 pounds minimum with driver; 58% left side bias with driver before race.

Wheels: The Maximum wheel width is 12” no minimum width. All wheels must be racing type, no single stock type. Steel wheels only, subject to tech.

Engine Set Back: Maximum 18” (eighteen) setback is measured from the centerline of front spindles to #1 spark plug. Engine crankshaft must be centered between front spindles (plus or minus 2”)

Rear-‐Ends: Quick-‐change rear ends are allowed All cars must have floater rear ends

Transmissions: OEM Transmissions 3 or 4 speed or Automatic Internal clutch, after market style transmissions, Allowed

Front Air Dam: An approved air dam may be mounted to the front underside of the cars. The optional metal or vinyl air dam must be mounted perpendicular to the ground and no more than three (3) inches behind the front edge of the nose panel. The front nose must maintain two (2) inches of ground clearance. The nose panel and air dam must not extend past the outside edge of the front frame rails. The air dam must have a minimum ground clearance of two (2) inches. All support brackets must be


mounted to the rear edge of the air dam. Horizontal or flat air deflectors must not extend past the outer edges of the front nose panel sidewalls.

WINDOWS/LIGHTS/MIRRORS

Windshield: Single one (1) piece flat or radiused type polycarbonate windshield must be used on the driver’s side, full windshields are optional, must be a minimum of ¼ inch thick.

The windshield must be mounted flush with the cowl or dashboard panel and extend up to the top of the windshield opening in the front of the driver.

Rear Window: The rear window glass must be removed.

Side Windows/Window Screens: No side windows allowed. An approved NASCAR style window net must be installed on the Driver’s side window. Window net webbing shall be ¾” minimum and 1” maximum width. Window net will be minimum 16” x 22”. Window net will attach to the roll bars in a manner approved by Tech Official and be secured by an approved fastener. Seat Belt latch and Detent Ball and Lever Style, OK.

Rear View Mirror: One rear view mirror will be permitted. Any rear view mirror must not extend outside of the car at any time.

Firewalls: A front and rear firewall must separate the driver from the engine compartment and the fuel cell. The front firewall must be positioned below the leading edge of the windshield. The firewalls must be seated and welded in place. All firewalls must be acceptable to the Northwest Modified Racing Series.

Grill/Air Intake Only screen will be permitted in the opening to allow for proper cooling. Only metal grill intake housings will be permitted. Total width of nose of car can be 42” wide, maximum, side panel of nose can be 2” above top of nose panel (max), subject to tech.

Hoods: All cars must be equipped with a hood manufactured from metal or. The hood must be manufactured so that it will completely cover the engine compartment from the left side to the right side, turn down a minimum of 4” on each side, and cover (if used) the engine side panels. No part of the hood at the side panels except for the “A” post, shock and master cylinder cover may be higher than the lowest part of the hood. Only openings for the carburetor, air cleaner, distributor and Breathers will be permitted. Hood must be fastened with positive pin fasteners evenly spaced across the front and rear of the hood.

Oil Coolers: Oil coolers may be used


NO oil coolers may be mounted in the driver compartment

Brakes: MANDATORY: Four wheel working brakes. STRICTLY ENFORCED

Radios 2-‐way radio communication is mandatory. If driver does not have radios, they will be forced to use receiver 1 way radio for communication with the tower.

Traction Control: No traction control devices are allowed. ONE YEAR SUSPENSION IF CAUGHT USING

Drive Shaft: One drive shaft retainer fabricated of two inch (2”) by one-‐fourth inch (1/4”) steel mounted to cross member. Must retain driveline in case of U-‐Joint failure. Mounted at front half of drive shaft. Drive shaft to be painted white and have car number on it.

Seatbelt Safety: Seatbelts mounted securely to frame or roll cage must consist of at least 3 (three) inch lap belt, 3 (three) inch shoulder harness, and crotch strap no older than 5 years.

Personal Driver Safety Equipment: Helmets meeting or exceeding Snell Rating and 2 layer fire suits, recommended, 1 layer must have Nomex underwear. MANDATORY! Open-‐faced helmets allowed. Nomex gloves, head sock, boot socks, fireproof boots and neck yoke are MANDATORY. Any helmet with Snell Rating Sticker removed will not be considered as meeting minimum requirements. Snell rating of 2006. Head Restraint Systems are highly recommended.

Each pit must have a functioning 5 lb. fire extinguisher within easy access of all crew member and safety personnel. MANDATORY. All fire bottles will be located on the right side rear of trailer. A $25.00 fine will be assessed for no fire extinguisher.

Driver Seat: Seat to be mounted securely to frame or roll cage. Seats to be of metal type, no fiberglass seats. Right side rib support must be braced.

Battery Containment No batteries in driver compartment. Must be enclosed in leak-‐proof case if not sealed type. Must be securely mounted. Battery kill switch is MANDATORY on left side rear deck, accessible by safety personnel. The kill switch is to be clearly marked “On/Off”.

Engine Rules: Maximum 360 cubic inch displacement Block must be cast iron. Aftermarket block allowed Heads must be cast iron, aftermarket heads are allowed with max. 200cc intake runners


Maximum 11.5 to 1 compression allowed Flat tappet camshafts only. No roller lifters or roller rocker arms Any (one) 4bbl carburetor excluding dominator or predator Alternate engine package: Engines with the following criteria may run a tech approved 390 carburetor or restrictor plate: Engines that exceed 360 cubic inch displacement Engines with aluminum heads Engines with roller camshafts

Air Cleaner/Filter: Only round maximum 5” (five inch) in height air filter element with a minimum 12” (twelve inch), maximum 14” (fourteen inch), diameter will be permitted. All air entering carburetor must pass through filter. Air filter may not be sprayed or soaked with chemicals. Top and bottom of air cleaner must be metal and same diameter. A shield may be used in front of air filter element, up to a maximum of ½ (one half) of the air filter element circumference, and not wider than the height of the element. No air induction ducts, baffles, tubes, funnels, or anything else which may control the air leading to, inside of, or between the air filter and carburetor. The air filter base must have a minimum round opening of 5” (five inches). A 1” (one inch) maximum height spacer may be used between the carburetor and the air cleaner.

Fuel Injection. NO fuel injection, turbo chargers or superchargers are allowed.

Fuel: Racing fuel and methanol are allowed. Subject to tech. inspection.

Tires: Use of the track specified tire is mandatory. All tires must be purchased from and stamped by Hermiston Super Oval. All qualifying, and main events must be ran on Hermiston stamped tires.

Soaking, softening or otherwise altering the composition of tires is not permitted. Drivers caught soaking will face penalties such monetary fines and indefinite suspension.


Hermiston Super Oval Bombers

Construction Rules

Racecievers are required for all classes that do not run two way radios. This is an entry level racing class. These are bomber cars. This is a beginner class. The primary purpose of the class is for learning and fun! These are bomber cars and are supposed to be a “stock car.” Any six or eight cylider passenger car that came from the factory with seating capacity for at least 4 persons may be used. Rotary engines, turbos and 4 wheel drive/ all wheel driver vehicles not allowed. Stock OEM Factory Carburetors Only. No aftermarket or Holley carburetors allowed. OEM Fuel injection system for year make and model allowed. No modifications. Must have stock OEM ECU. Head tech official reserves the right to swap out or confiscate ECU as per his discretion. Engine must come stock in Make/Model/Year of car. No swaps from different years. Remove the carpet, head liner, door panels, and all interior, except driver’s seat. Leave dash intact. Remove head and tail light glass, and all window glass except windshield. A lexan windshield is okay with two support braces. Tires must be of stock DOT 400 tread wear tires and have tread showing across the complete face of the tire, however, shall be no wider than six inches (6”) new or six and one-‐half inches (6.5”) used, and shall not extend beyond the body, NO RE-‐CAPS or RACING TIRES. Wheels are to be a maximum of six inches wide. All camber shall be three-‐fourths of one-‐inch (3/4”) Maximum. Ride Height minimum five (5”) inches. No trimming of body panels allowed without tech personnel approval. NO ANTI-‐FREEZE in cooling systems. Cars should be brightly painted (try to avoid dark colors!). Cars numbers are allocated by the track and are on a first come first serve basis. Single and double digit numbers only. Motors must remain stock. No adjustable timing gears or pulley allowed. Stock air cleaner required. Rearends must remain unlocked. No welded or posi rearends. A fully charged dry chemical or halon fire extinguisher must be mounted inside the car within reach of the driver. We understand that “bomber” style cars originally had a “T” bar “demolition” style roll bar. Many of these cars have already upgraded to a 4 point cage or more. This is recommended. Please remember, this is a high speed, 3/8 mile super oval, so, all roll cages will be teched for safety. Additional bars may be required by tech or promoter after initial inspection for safety. Roll bar recommendation. It is recommended that they should be made of 1-‐3/4” by .095


wall thickness roll bar tubing. All cages must be made of good quality material with neat appearing welds and gussets. No screw couplings allowed. Roll bars must be welded or securely fastened inside the car to the floor pan and braced on the rear main bar. All roll bars have to have three (3) sissy bars on the driver’s side connected with three (3) vertical bars in the center, with a minimum of two (2) sissy bars on the passenger side. A center roof bar is optional. All cars must have a rear safety bar attached to the main cage to protect gas tank. The right hand side of the roll cage cannot come over any farther to the left than the right side frame rail. Right of the cage must be vertical and parallel to the frame. An outside door bar on the driver’s side is optional. Install a minimum of 6” x 3/8” steel plate, located in the center of the driver’s door to extend a minimum of 12” in the front and rear. Round off the outer corners. Bar to be bolted with a minimum of four ½” stove bolts with a 6” square backing plate. Brush bars, rub rails, and any other external reinforcing bars outside of the car will not be allowed. Car running electric fuel pumps MUST mount a clearly marked on/off switch within 6 inches of the driver’s door. Driver must be able to reach switch when securely fastened in with seat belt. A brightly painted, solid square of at least 4 inches square must surround the switch All Seats to be securely fastened to the floor. The back of the seat has to be securely fastened to the roll bars. A padded area must be directly behind the drivers head on the roll bar(s). Seat should not be able to move in any direction. Racing seats are recommended. All seats are subject to tech approval. Gas tanks shall have a minimum of two additional metal straps holding them in place, besides the factory ones, and are subject to tech approval. Battery to remain in stock location and securely fastened, or if moved must be located behind driver in battery box securely fastened, covered and fastened in two ways, with one seat belt each way. The seat belt end must be bolted to floor of the car. No milk crates, wooden boxes, etc. will be allowed. Hood latch MUST be removed and a minimum of two hood pins to be used to retain hood. You may remove the hinges, but MAY NOT trim hood or attempt to “lighten” hood. Drivelines must be painted white. Driveline must have a metal strap or chained loop maximum 12” behind front u-‐joint. Other than transponders, race cars will not be permitted to carry ANY onboard computers, micro controlled processors, recording devises, electronic memory chips, digital readout gauges, or traction control devises. Mufflers must be securely fastened and in working order. Loud mufflers will not be tolerated, ninety-‐five decibels at one hundred feet (95 Db at 100’). All exhaust must be muffled in stock location; exhaust must extend of 3 feet past the muffler, and exit underneath the car behind driver downward.


Hermiston Super Oval Super Late Models Construction Rules

This is the premier class at Hermiston Super Oval. Late Model racing takes place all across the country and can be very expensive. HSO has focused on keeping these costs down and keeping the competition level high. Reach up and pull those belts tight one more time… Let’s go racing boys! SAFETY FIRE CONTROL: It is recommended that each car have, within driver’s reach, built-‐in fire extinguishing equipment containing Halon 1211 or equivalent. Dry powder is not permitted. Any car that is not equipped with a built-‐in fire extinguisher must have an adequate fire extinguisher securely mounted within reach of the driver. The fire extinguisher may be secured to the roll bars or mounted on the left side door area. All entrants should have in their garage or pit area as part of their equipment, at all times, a fully charged 10 or 13 pound dry chemical, Halon, or equivalent fire extinguisher. ELECTRICAL CUT-‐OFF SWITCH: All cars must be equipped with a master cut-‐off switch, center accessible from either side of the car. The cut-‐off switch must completely disconnect electrical power and must be clearly marked with an “ON-‐OFF’ decal. COMMUNICATIONS One or two way – Radios are required for use in this class. BODY REQUIREMENTS This class is open to the following American-‐made, passenger car, production sedans: CHEVROLET: Monte Carlo, Lumina DODGE: Intrepid, Charger PONTIAC: Grand Prix, Firebird FORD: Thunderbird, Taurus & Fusion BUICK: Regal OLDSMOBILE: Cutlass TOYOTA: Camry Any body not listed here may be approved by the Chief Technical Inspector. All bodies must be neat appearing and stock as produced by manufacturer. Bodies must be constructed of steel, aluminum or fiberglass. Flat or slab sided bodies are not permitted. The nose and grill area may be cut for the installation of air ducts only. The rear bumper may not be altered, modified or drilled. Approved front air dams must have a minimum of four (4) inches ground clearance. A full rear filler panel is required. The roof must be located in the stock position and may not be crowned or altered in any manner, and measure 47” from the ground. Angled aluminum roof rails with a maximum height of 3/8 inch are permitted, provided the angle is mounted parallel, aligned vertically and painted to match the roof. All other body parts must be securely attached without sharp edges. Belly pans are not permitted. Exterior nerf bars or any other type of external supporting devices are not permitted. Lexan number protectors okay.


Interior of the car must be totally isolated from engine compartment and fuel cell with firewalls. All holes must be sealed. Rear spoiler height may not exceed six and one half (6.5) inches, measured from any point along the deck lid to top of spoiler on all cars. Rear spoiler may be a maximum of sixty (60) inches wide on all cars. Front and Rear Fenders will not exceed 1 inch flare from outside of tire. A body template will be used at the Chief Tech Inspector’s discretion and his decisions are final. WINDOWS A windshield made of clear safety glass or lexan must be used. Each car must have a rear window made of clear safety glass or lexan. Rear windows must be flat and not dished from roof to deck lid. No windows in driver’s door or passenger’s door; window wings okay. Driver side window net is required on all cars and must be equipped with a quick-‐release device on the top left front corner. HEIGHT, WEIGHT AND CHASSIS DIMENSIONS Minimum weight of car and driver is 2,900 pounds. Cars will have a maximum of 58% left side weight. Weight breaks/ penalties may apply to cars with non-‐standard engines (See engine requirements). These weight advantages/penalties may be adjusted in the interest of fair competition at anytime. Car must make weight at all times. No addition of any fluids will be permitted at any time. Minimum wheelbase permitted is 101 inches. Track width for stock or fab replacement stock front clips using stock lower control arms will be a maximum 69 inches. All other cars must maintain a maximum 67 inch width measured at the center of the spindle. Frame rails, body and all added lead must maintain a minimum of 4 inches ground clearance. There must be a minimum of 8 inches ground clearance at the fuel cell. Wet Sump pan clearance will be teched by the Chief Tech Inspector and his decisions are final. Meaning, we do not want your oil pan to hit the ground at any time. Added lead weight must be painted white and must have car number clearly visible on each piece. All cars must have a minimum of 10 inches between the center of the crankshaft and the ground. LATE MODEL ENGINE REQUIREMENTS Maximum displacement is 360 cubic inches, including wear for Chevrolet and Ford. Maximum displacement is 368 cubic inches, including wear for Mopar. Minimum weight of car and driver is 2,900 pounds. Cars with an approved and sealed 604 crate motor weigh 2775 lbs Cars with an approved stock cast iron heads weigh 2825 lbs Cars with an approved aftermarket cast iron heads 2850 lbs Cars with cubic inches greater than listed above, weigh 3000 lbs with an open carburetor or 2900 lbs with an approved 390 cfm carburetor. All approval decisions are up the Chief Technical Inspector. Any specific item not listed here will be the sole decision of the Chief Technical Inspector. Engine blocks must be cast iron Cylinder heads must be cast iron or Brodix aluminum spec head: Part #SP-‐CH/FO/MO Cylinder heads must tech within 10 cc’s of manufactured volume and spec heads are to remain untouched. Cylinder heads must be approved by the Chief Technical Inspector. Three angle valve jobs are permitted. Roller rocker arms permitted. Split and full shaft rocker arms are permitted. Roller lifter cams permitted. Any single carburetor is permitted (390 carburetor is required for certain engine packages) All cars are subject to the use of a restrictor plate or weight penalty at the track’s discretion. CRATE ENGINES All crate engines must be pre-‐approved by the Chief Technical Inspector. AIR CLEANERS AND FILTERS Only dry, round paper element filters are permitted for use. Air must enter the filter housing in an even and consistent manner without obstruction. HSO reserves the right to impound all air filters at any time. Air filter housing must be round and made of metal. No alteration of air flow in air cleaners is permitted. Cal Induction for ABC bodies okay. ENGINE LOCATION AND MOUNTS Engines must be located so that the forward most spark plug hole is within 2 inches of a line connecting the rear of the upper ball joints on Chevrolet. Ford and Mopar are 3 inches of the same line. Crankshaft must be centered within 1” of the vehicle’s front tread width. Minimum clearance between the center of the crankshaft and the ground must be 10 inches. All mounts must be securely bolted and adjustable mounts are not permitted. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Electronic distributors, single or dual breaker points or any camshaft driven type distributors are permitted. Magnetos, crank trigger, optically triggered or computerized systems are not permitted. Traction control devices, electrical or otherwise, are not permitted. Batteries must be securely mounted within the confines of the body. Batteries must not be located in the driver’s compartment. Dry cell batteries are not required, but are recommended. Maximum of (2) ignition boxes are permitted, both ignition must be functional and controlled by a switching device. ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM Radiators must be stock appearing and remain in the stock location.


Anti-‐freeze is not permitted for use in the cooling system. A one quart overflow catch tank is recommended in all cars. Catch tank may be located in the engine compartment with a hose protruding enabling the driver to see overflow. Water pump must be mechanically driven, must be located in the stock location.

ENGINE EXHAUST SYSTEMS If exhaust pipes exit out the passenger side of the car, there cannot be any sharp edges. DRIVE TRAIN Any aftermarket or OEM, manual or automatic shift transmission may be used. Transmissions with enclosed clutches are permitted. Transmission must have a functional forward gear and reverse gear. The pressure plates and discs must be made of magnetic steel only. Aftermarket scatter shields are recommended. Flywheel must be constructed of aluminum or steel. Drive shafts must be steel or aluminum and painted white. Full Floater rear ends are required. Quick-‐change rear ends are permitted. Cambered rear ends are not permitted. FRAMES Full tube frames or stock sub frames are permitted. Perimeter style chassis and offset, straight-‐rail, chassis are permitted. Main frame rails must be constructed of rectangular tubing having a minimum outside circumference of 10 inches and a minimum thickness of .120 inches. The driver’s side door must have at least 3 complete horizontal bars between the pillars and 2 vertical bars extending from the window opening to the frame rails. Roll cage must be welded to main frame rails in a minimum of 6 locations. SUSPENSION Independent rear suspension is not permitted. Independent front suspension is required. Minimum coil over spring diameter is 2 ½”. Minimum big spring diameter is 4 ¾”. Only one shock per wheel is permitted. Adjustable shocks okay. Static weight jacking devices are permitted. No weight may be moved while car is in motion.

STEERING COMPONENTS Quick release steering wheels are required. All steering wheels must have a minimum 2” thick pad in the center. Steering columns must be collapsible (U-‐joints are acceptable). BRAKES 4 wheel disc brakes with magnetic steel, non-‐coated rotors are required. Brake bias valves are permitted.


Aftermarket calipers are permitted. Brakes must be functional at each wheel during competition. FUEL SYSTEM All cars must be equipped with an approved fuel cell, securely mounted in the trunk area as far forward as possible. Fuel cell must have a ground clearance of 8”. Fuel cell must be mounted with steel framework (1 inch x 1 inch, .065 inch minimum) and attached with a minimum of 4, ½” bolts to the frame rails. Glass fuel filters, electric fuel pumps and belt driven fuel pumps are not permitted. Fuel lines may not enter driver’s compartment. TIRES AND WHEELS Magnetic steel, 15” by 10” racing wheels are required. Drivers are permitted to start race day with a maximum of 4 new sticker tires. Drivers have to register their used tires on race day in order to use them for spares. A tire is considered used once it measures 4/32nd tread depth. Again, you must register all of your tires, new and used, on race day, in order to use them in that day’s events. Register your tires with the Chief Tech Inspector. Competitors must start the feature event on the tires used during qualifying. Use of the track specified tire is mandatory. All tires must be purchased from and stamped by Hermiston Super Oval. All qualifying, and main events must be ran on Hermiston stamped tires. Soaking, softening or otherwise altering the composition of tires is not permitted. Drivers caught soaking will face penalties such monetary fines and indefinite suspension.


HERMISTON SUPER OVAL Open Demolition Derby Construction Rules

All cars will be inspected before the derby by track officials. All cars hood and trunk area may be opened for inspection. All winning cars may be re-‐inspected prior to leaving the arena area and before payout. No pit crew members will be allowed in the arena during the re-‐inspection of winning cars. Drivers can be scored down or disqualified, if they have not complied with the derby rules and /or the official’s decision in tech inspections. No additional welding will be allowed on any vehicle following tech. The Derby is open to any American made hardtop model stock car or station wagon. NO Imperials. No Trucks, Commercial Vehicles or Convertibles allowed. Section 01 Car Preparation (a) All glass, including windshield, must be removed. (b) Flammable materials inside the car must be removed. These include the carpet, the rear seat, and interior trim including side and roof liners. Trunks must be free from any debris. As well, the inside of the doors must be clear of all glass and debris. (c) All light covers/bulbs, side mirrors, hubcaps, grills, side chrome, plastic, door handles and pot metal must be removed. (d) All trailer hitches, related brackets, reinforcements and hardware will be completely removed. (e) Stock fuel tanks must be removed. Section 02 Fuel Systems (a) A limited capacity (of 6 gal. or less) metal tank or boat tank is required as a replacement gas tank. You must solidly mount it in interior of the car, ahead of the rear axle. The tank must be located at least 12” from the inner door panels. The stock tank must be completely removed. If using a metal boat tank, you must have it placed in a metal frame and securely fastened with metal strapping or chain. NO PLASTIC TANKS!! (b) Gas lines and fittings must be leak proof. No exceptions. Rubber fuel lines located inside the passenger compartment must run through a second larger hose such as a garden hose to prevent accidental spillage on the driver in case of a leak. A hole must be made in the floor board for fuel runoff. (c) Electric fuel pumps are optional. If an electric fuel pump is used, you must have an on/off switch that is positioned so that up is on and off is down. The switch must be easily visible and "off" must be clearly marked. The letter "E" must be on your signboard. (d) Gas tanks may not be bolted to the frame in any fashion. Gas tanks MAY not be used as a kicker to keep the frame from dropping or moving forward or backward. Subject to Tech Approval Section 03 Batteries (a) Batteries must be re-‐located inside the car. Your battery box must be of metal construction, full


enclosed, and securely fastened to the floor. In NO way may it be connected/bolted to the frame. The lid must be securely fastened shut using 5/16" bolts or 2" straps. (i.e. seat belts). NO RATCHET STRAPS OR BUNGEE CORDS OF ANY TYPE. (b) Two (2) batteries maximum (c) Switches or wires used for powering off the car must be within reach of the driver while harnessed in. There will be no acceptable excuse for not being able to turn off your car in an emergency situation. Section 04 Safety Bracing (a) A front cross brace must be installed above the steering column from window post to window post (in the former position of the dashboard). It must be made of a minimum 2" pipe or square tubing with 1/8" wall thickness and be securely fastened into position. The dash bar in no way may touch or be bolted to the floor or the frame of the vehicle. If a 2 piece pipe is used, it must be securely fastened so that it cannot collapse. (Welded or minimum 3/4" bolt) (b) A rear cross brace must be installed from door inner skin to door inner skin, as close to the door post(B pillar) as possible, and at least halfway up from the floor. It must be made of a minimum 3" pipe or square tubing, with plates welded on the ends. The end plates may not extend more than 15" past cross bar(towards rear of car). The cross brace must be bolted with minimum of two (2) ¾" bolts per side, extending through the side irons. If the cross brace is collapsible, it must be pinned with a ¾" bolt (minimum) or welded so it can’t rotate. Optional: If floor boards are rusty, you may run a MAX 2" Pipe or square tubing over to the inner rocker panel sheet metal. It must be welded, no bolting of this bar! This bar MAY NOT be welded to the frame!! (c) All cars must have a minimum of 1 upright (vertical) post. Upright must be located directly behind the driver's seat. The upright must be made of a minimum 2" pipe or square tubing with a minimum 4" x 4" plate welded to the top. The upright will extend from the roof to the cross bar, or to the floor and be located as close to the seat as possible. It must be attached with minimum of two 3/8" bolts on each end. Note: If using a two-‐piece upright, the female end should be above the helmet level, unless the upright is welded or solidly pinned with a ¾" minimum bolt. Optional: May add 2nd upright on passenger side of vehicle. Uprights may in no way be connected to the frame. (d) Both front doors must be reinforced with a minimum 8" wide, 3/16" thick channel iron. The side iron must not be more than 6’ in length and must begin ahead of the front door seam and be no more than 6" in front of the front door seam. The iron must be bolted with a minimum of three (3) bolts (3/4" min) that extend through the inner panels. Backing plates (washers) must be used and must be a minimum of 6" x 6" x 3/16" thick on both front and rear ends of the door bars. The front bolt must be located no further back than the front fender/front door seam and at least one other bolt must go through the plate connected to the rear cross bar. The ends of the side irons must be cut at a 45-‐degree angle. Section 05 Seat and Seat Belts (a) Approved safety harnesses are mandatory. They must be mounted to stock mounts or have a 2" minimum flat washer where it is mounted through the sheet metal. (b) Seat can be OEM stock of any make/model car (Honda Prelude/CRX seats not recommended). Put a headrest on upright behind the seat if seat was not equipped with a headrest. (Mandatory) (c) No fiberglass/plastic racing style seats


Section 06 Building, Welding & Securing THERE WILL BE NO OTHER WELDING OTHER THAN WHAT IS STATED BELOW. IF YOU HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT WELDING, PLEASE CALL THE HEAD TECH OFFICIAL!! IF WELDING IS FOUND ON THE FRAME OR SHEETMETALTHAT IS NOT SPECIFIED BELOW, YOU WILL BE ASKED TO CUT OR LEAVE! (a) Doors: You may fully weld the doors. You may use a filler no larger than 2"w X 1/8"t or 3/8" re-‐bar or equivalent. If bolting the doors shut, you may use up to 4 1/2" bolts per door. If chaining the doors shut, you may use 2 chains, no larger than 3/8" per door. (b) Trunk lids, tailgates and hoods must be secured shut with bolts, chains or welds as follows: (i) Hoods can be bolted in a maximum of 6 places other than stock, in which only 2 may go to the frame. Bolt size must be a minimum of 5/8" and a maximum of 1". MAX plate size is 6" x 6". Bolts must not exceed 4" above the vehicle surface. HOODS MUST BE OPENING FOR TECH!! NO EXCEPTIONS! (ii) Chains must be a minimum 3/8" & maximum of 1/2" welded type. A bolt no smaller than 3/8" & maximum of 1/2", with washers, must connect the chains. (iii) Trunks may be fastened in a maximum of 6 places using chains, bolts or welds of which only 2 may go to the frame. Welds cannot be more than 6" long or if using flat plates, they must not exceed 6" x 2"x 1/8" in each place. If bolting, plate size cannot exceed 6''x6''. All thread (1" max) may go through frame or be welded to the side of the frame. Cars must have an inspection hole in the trunk. (c) Bumper swaps are allowed, however you must use factory hardware (brackets/shocks) that either came with the bumper or came with the car you are putting it on. You MAY NOT use both!! Any questions....call tech. (d) Front and rear bumpers may be welded solid. (I.e.-‐bumper to bumper shock, shock to bracket and bracket to frame) No extra metal. (e) Bumper shock itself may be collapsed and welded. No added material. (f) You may weld outer skin to inner structure of bumper. (g) To simplify most of the bumper welding rule, we are allowing you to weld from the front A-‐Arms forward. You may only weld the top seam. Width of the weld will not exceed 1/2''. Section 07 Window / Window Screen (a) A protective screen of ½" wire mesh or smaller may be installed in front of the driver. A car with a sunroof is allowed as long as the opening is securely covered with sheet metal and deemed safe by tech officials. (b) One "strap"(max 2) 3/16" thick x 2-‐1/2" wide flat stock down the center of the windshield from top to bottom. Window bar(s) must be bolted with a minimum of 5/16'' and maximum of 1/2" bolts. Window bars CANNOT be welded in place. No sheet metal screws allowed fastening window bars. (c) Optional rear window bars may be added no more than 6" extension on roof and in no way contact the deck lid, trunk pins, trunk plates or frame. They may be no bigger than 2-‐1/2"x 1/2" inch thick flat stock. Max 2 each parallel with roof. Window bar(s) will be bolted with a minimum 5/16'' and a maximum of 1/2" bolts. Window bars CANNOT be welded in place. No sheet metal screws to fasten window bars. Section 08 Radiator (a) No cooling system other than stock is permitted. Radiators and/or fans can be removed. Expansion tanks must remain in engine compartment as close to the stock location as possible.


Radiator support or radiator attachment will be no stronger than stock. Tech decision is final. (b) Transmission coolers other than stock, if used must be in an enclosed box inside the vehicle. Transmission coolers and all hoses must be leak proof. No screw type clamps on any transmission hose connections inside the car. (c) Transmission coolers and components may NOT be bolted to the frame in any fashion. Transmission coolers are NOT to be used as a kicker to keep the frame from dropping or moving forward or backward!! Subject to Tech Approval. Section 09 Motor Mounts / Suspension (a) Motor mounts and transmission mounts may be strengthened with bolts, welds or chains. Motor straps welded to the frame and bolted to the motor are allowed. Straps can be a maximum thickness of 3/8" flat bar and 2'' wide only and are limited to 2 straps each side. Engine straps may go no further than 3'' in front of forward most part of the cylinder head and no further back than 3'' past the rearward most part of the cylinder head. Engine supports may be used as long as they are not reinforcing the frame. Any questions, call a tech official. (b) Any 5 lug rear end may be used. (c) Upper/Lower control arms maybe shortened or lengthened to achieve pinion angle. You may NOT reinforce the rear end control arms (trailing arms). (d) Leaf conversions are NOT allowed. Suspension must remain stock. (e) Maximum of 9 leafs. Section 10 Distributor Plates (a) Distributor protectors allowed, must be attached to engine and transmission only, must be no wider than 10 inches, must not contact dash bar before, during or after the event. If you run a DP do not mount your dash bar closer than 5 inches behind the rear most point of the firewall/cowl. It may not be welded, bolted or connected to body, hood or frame. Forward supports must be inside normally positioned headers and not extend past the water pump. (b) If using an engine cradle, it must not be connected to the distributor plate. Section 11 Exhaust (a) Stacks must be a minimum of 18" from exhaust port. Section 12 Carbs (a) You must have either an air cleaner or suitable flame arrestor. Two large holes, at least 6" in diameter, must be put in the hood for fire extinguisher access. Stack holes are acceptable for fire access holes. No alternative starting methods i.e. stating fluid etc.... Section 13 Brakes (a) Cars must have a minimum of two working hydraulic brakes. Section 14 Tires/Wheels-‐Tie-‐Rods (a) Any tire may be used. Doubled and forklifts are ok. Tires must be filled with air and air only. (b) Wheel wells may be trimmed. No shackles or reverse spring shackles will be allowed. (c) Valve stem protection is permitted. (d) Tie rods may be reinforced. Must have stock tie rod ends. No pipe tie rods.


Section 15 Sign Boards/ Flags (a) Car numbers will be painted on the signboard. Numbers will be at least 18" high and minimum of 2" thick. Signs need to be in contrasting colors such as black numbers on a white background. If the signboard is unreadable, the car will not be permitted to race until it is corrected. (b) Letter "E" is to be used on all cars with electric fuel pumps. Section 16 Repairing Damaged Cars (a) When repairing damaged cars, you may use for two (2) 4''x4''x1/8'' plates per frame section. Pieces cannot be any closer than 3". They may not attach to each other in any fashion. Repairs pieces must have an inspection hole drilled in the center of plate. A frame section is one frame rail in front of or behind an OEM firewall. 2 plates RF frame, 2 plates RR frame, 2 plates LF frame and 2 plates LR frame. That's 8 total plates. You may not add any more than this. 2 PLATES MAX PER FRAME SECTION. YOU MAY NOT TAKE PLATES AWAY FROM ONE (1) FRAME SECTION AND ADD TO ANOTHER. Section 17 Misc Can & Can't Do (a) You may cut firewall for distributor clearance. You must cover with tin. (b) You may shorten or lengthen the upper and lower control arms for rear end only. NO REINFORCING!!! (c) You may clamp leaf springs, 4 clamps per leaf. 2"x1/4" MAX, two 3/8" bolts per clamp (d) Body mounts may be removed. If replacing bolts, you may use bolts/all thread no larger than 3/4", MAX 3"x3"x1/4" washer/plate. Washer may not cover body mount hole on exterior of frame. Must be able to see in the frame. NO EXCEPTIONS!!! I addition you may add two (2) body mounts. No larger than 3/4" bolts/fasteners. MAX washer size is 3"x3"x1/4". Must be brightly painted for easy viewing. (e) You may re-‐bolt hood skins. 15 bolts maximum. 3/8''max bolt size. 1" max washer size. (f) You may re-‐bolt wheel wells. You are allowed 5 3/8" bolts with 1" diameter washers per wheel well. (g) Fire extinguishers are NOT mandatory, although highly recommended. If a fire extinguisher is installed in the vehicle, it must be securely mounted and within drivers reach. (h) You may chain the humps. You will be allowed 1 wrap of chain. It may go around the rear end 1 time and up through the body and around the frame 1 time and be bolted together. (i) All cars must be brightly painted.


HERMISTON SUPER OVAL 80’s or Newer Demolition Derby

Construction Rules

1. All must be produced 1980 or newer. Tech inspector will check vin codes! 2. All cars must be equipped with a 8 or 6 cyl. Engine. You may swap engines 3. All flammable or breakable material must be stripped from the car. You may leave the dash in if you wish. 4. You must have a working seatbelt. Lap-‐belt only is o.k. 5. There must be a fire extinguisher mounted within reach of the driver. 6. You must have driver door protection, passenger door protection recommended but not required. You may weld the drivers door bar to the vehicle if you choose. Door bar cannot extend more than 12 inches past the door it is protecting. 7. When securing the doors . You may either use chain or weld drivers door only. Each weld will be no more than 4 inches. the hood and trunk must be chained, 4 chains on each no more than 3' lengths. There must be a 12" x 12" inspection hole in the trunk and hood. 8. You may move the battery and gas tank to the driver's compartment. Gas tank must be moved if located behind rear axel. 9. Battery must be fastened down and must be covered, preferably inside a battery box. When covering the battery you may not use any flammable material. 10. No altering suspension or body! no tuck/notch or folding body panels. (pre-‐bending is ok) DO NOT CUT AND WELD FRAME ANYWHERE 11. You may bypass the transmission linkage and you may switch to a toggle switch/push button setup for the ignition. 12. Tires must be D.O.T approved 13. You may have a roll bar and it may be welded in. 14. Other than what is mentioned above there will be ABSOLUTELY NO WELDING. 15. If these rules do not say that you CAN do it, then you CAN NOT do it. Check with officials if there is any questions.


HERMISTON SUPER OVAL Compact Demolition Derby

Construction Rules

1. All small cars may have a maximum wheelbase of 106 inches. 4WD or AWD is ok as long as you meet the wheelbase specs. 2. All cars must be equipped with a 6 cyl. engine or less. You may swap engines, but the car must also be originally equipped with a 6 cyl. engine or less. 3. All flammable or breakable material must be stripped from the car. You may leave the dash in if you wish. 4. You must have a working seatbelt. Lap-‐belt only is o.k. 5. There must be a fire extinguisher mounted within reach of the driver. 6. You must have driver and passenger door protection. You may weld the door bar to the vehicle if you choose. Door bar cannot extend more than 12 inches past the door it is protecting. 7. When securing the doors and the trunk lid there are two options. You may either use chain with one per door, two for the trunk lid, and maximum 3 feet in length. Or you can partially weld the seam. Each weld will be no more than 4 inches. Two 4 inch welds per door, and two 4 inch welds for the entire trunk lid. If you weld the trunk lid shut, there must be a 12" x 12" inspection hole in the trunk lid itself. 8. You may move the battery and gas tank to the driver's compartment. This is recommended. 9. Battery must be fastened down and must be covered, preferably inside a battery box. When covering the battery you may not use any flammable material. 10. When securing the hood you may only use chain. Hood chains may be 4 feet in length. You may only have 4 points securing the hood, therefore, if you have the hinges still attached you may only use 2 chains. If you remove the hinges you may use 4 chains. You will not be allowed to run any chain directly in front or directly behind the radiator. Two of the chains may be wrapped around the frame. No pins or all-‐thread allowed to fasten the hood down. 11. You may bypass the transmission linkage and you may switch to a toggle switch/push button setup for the ignition. 12. For tires, you may use any type of tire you wish but you may not use oversized tires (like sometimes seen on the big cars). You may also tube the tires if you wish. Valve stem guards will be allowed and you may weld them to the rim. However, the guard must not protrude out from the rim. It should stick out no more than 1 inch. My issue with tires is the height they will give the car, not that they won't go flat. I would prefer to see no flats during the derby.


13. You must have at least a single post roll bar and it must be welded or bolted in. 14. Other than what is mentioned above there will be ABSOLUTELY NO WELDING. I will take this rule VERY seriously. For example, if you're door welds are 4 1/2 inches long I will not let you run until you cut them down to what the rules specify. 15. If these rules do not say that you CAN do it, then you CAN NOT do it. Check with officials if there is any questions.
