From company PT tests, to a

Brigade Fitness Challenge, to

mock boards, Headquarters and

Headquarters Company (HHC),

326th Engineer Battalion

(AASLT), has been bringing on

the heat, staying physically and

mentally fit.

One Saturday, HHC woke up

before the crack of dawn to exe-

cute their semi annual record PT

test. Excited and prepared for

the event, every Soldier tried

their hardest. The results were

passing scores, all around.

The end of last month brought

the game faces out. 20th Engi-

neer Brigade held a fitness chal-lenge at the stadium here on

base. 13 teams of 4 Soldiers

competed for the top spot. Four

teams from HHC participated in

the multiple events, roping up

third place overall.

A fter the Castle Fitness Chal-

lenge, a company BBQ was

held at the outdoor swimming

pool. Food from the Dining

Facility was served, a volley-

ball game ensued, and 1SG

Burton brought it on with a

mini Spades tournament.

Many Soldiers spent time in

the pool playing volleyball.

Others jumped off the plat-

forms, seeing who could get

the biggest splash.

Many lower enlisted Soldiers

have been preparing for the

board. Twice a week, they get

a study group together, leadby some of the senior NCOs,

and dissect the Army Study

Guide. All that hard work is

paying off, taking into account

the considerable high scores

they received in the mock

board they held.

In honor of our fallen com-

rades, HHC participated in

the Engineer Memorial 5K

run on Friday. There was a

great turn out, providing a

great variety of competition.

Out of five companies, one

of them Air Force, three Sol-

diers from HHC took top

places, while two others re-

ceived coins for refusing to

let the Brigade Commander

beat them.

Since being deployed, there

have been a few promotions

and awards. All recognized

 were deserving.

Birthdays held in Iraq can be

different, but we find ways to

make them memorable.

Here in Iraq, HHC works

hard. At the end of the day,

everyone is filled with the

satisfaction of a job well

done.

 A pproximately 150 soldiers in

the 20th Engineer Brigade gath-

ered one morning to see who

would bring home the trophy in

the Castle Fitness Challenge. 13

teams of 4 Soldiers entered thecompetition, 5 from HHC, and

the rest from 3 other compa-

nies

„The “A” Team‟, consisting of

SSG Reed, SPC Huffman, PFC

Grey, and PFC Young, repre-

sented HHC well. The team

took third place overall. The

other four teams: „S6 Pack‟,„Third Herd‟, „The Bird‟, and

„Defend and Serve‟ all did very

well, giving it their best and fin-

ishing strong.

 Along with lounging around in

the sun and enjoying each

other‟s company, many Soldiers

had a game of volleyball going

in the water, while others

played on a sand volleyball

court. 1SG Burton got a spades

tournament going, others chose

Corn Hole, and SGT Taua‟ishowed everyone at the pool

 what a real cannonball looked

like.

 A fter a competitive morning, a

company BBQ was in order!

 After four months of deploy-

ment, it was nice to get out of

the office for a day and enjoy

great food and festivities with

great Soldiers. Burgers, chips,

and drinks were served. AndSGT Taua‟I‟s awesome ribs, of

course!

In an arc around the 20th En-

gineer Brigade Commander,

COL Kaiser, Army and Air

Force Engineers alike gathered

for the same reason: to run in

remembrance of our fallen

comrades. As Memorial day approached, we weren‟t going

to forget about those who gave

the ultimate sacrifice. In a moti-

 vational speech, COL Kaiser

encouraged every Soldier and

 Airman to remember those of

us who have fallen, and run for

them.

Taking lead of the pack, LTC

Kinsman‟s Personal Security

Detail‟s (PSD) SGT Martin

stole first place for the men,

 while SSG Reed took second.

 The PSD platoon leader, 1LT

Hanley, came in first for the

 women. Each was awarded a

coin for their victory.

 As PSD‟s medic, SPC Ketzer,

and alternate medic, SPC Huff-

man were running the route,

COL Kaiser and CSM Kendrick

passed them. Not wanting to be

beat by the Brigade Command

team, they shot ahead of them

like a bullet and crossed the

finish line first. Awarding them

for their commitment, the com-

mand team gave each of them a

coin in front of the task force

formation.

Let us always remember those

service members who have

gone before us, and the sacri-

fices they have made so that we

may have the freedoms we en-

joy this day. They are gone, but

not forgotten.

Memorial Day 5K: Racing to Remember

“Let us in this

moment rededicate

ourselves to the

highest ideals our

fallen comrades

lived and died for.”

-CH (CPT) Bong,

326 EN BN

Chaplain
