WelcomeWelcome to the 2010 Stafford Half Marathon and School and Family Fun Run. This brochure has been designed to guide you through the pre race nerves and to ensure that you know everything you need to know about the events, including how to get to the start line, health and safety information and the all important route maps.
The 2010 Half Marathon has seen the introduction of new entry methods and the fastest ever filling of spaces!… we hope you have found the Half Marathon Training Diary launched in November, useful.
For all those wacky fun runners out there, don’t forget that fancy dress really makes for a colourful event, and on the spot prizes are dished out on the day for the craziest and best costumes!
We would like to thank all of our sponsors and supporters of the events – without them the day would not be possible. Finally, we wish you the best of luck and hope you have an enjoyable day.

ATribute APPLAUSE IN TRIBUTE TO DAVID BARLOWOne year ago David Barlow completed the Stafford Half Marathon but sadly collapsed after crossing the finish line and didn’t make it home.
For this year’s race we are hoping you would join us in a minute’s applause before the start to remember David, a Stafford Half regular.
Your participation in this would be a great gesture and much appreciated.
David supported The Donna Louise Trust and ran for charity, if you would like to make a donation please visit: www.donnalouisetrust.org (and search for donate).

ECO:DRIVE EVERYBODY
When the bear knows every single step you take on the accelerator, and every single gear change you make, he soon gets the measure ofyour driving. So if the cuddly chap points out a few home truths, bear them in mind. They can help you reduce your emissions and fuelbills. It’s all part of the Fiat 500’s new eco:Drive system. Plug any memory stick, no matter how weird, wonderful or furry, into the Blue&Me multimedia port in the Fiat 500. It will collect data about the way you drive, which is then analysed on your PC or Mac. Follow the tips and you’re eco-driving. Fiat is already the car manufacturer with the lowest average emissions in Europe, and with you on board things can get even better. You can still use Blue&Me for voice activated music and phone calls, but now you can have just as much fun using it to save money. You see, the bear knows best.

Plus, with Feel3* you get 3 years’ free servicing - so it even creates less worry. And, because you can make calls, listen to tracks and fi nd your way around with the new Blue&Me - TomTom, you’ll always be heading in the right direction, musically or otherwise.

HalfMarathonStart Line InstructionsPLEASE NOTE: The start of the Half Marathon is situated in Stafford Street, at the junction with Princes Street, please make your way to Stafford Street at 10.15am [see page 11 for start location and directions]. There is NO town centre loop at the start of the route.
As the start area is narrow and there is a large amount of participants, it will be helpful if you can line up in accordance with your anticipated finish time, to ensure minimal congestion.
If each runner adopts this sensible approach everyone will move away from the start more smoothly and everyone will be able to get into their running quickly and without incident to have an enjoyable run.
Take up a position behind the start line that is appropriate for your estimated finishing time. There will be estimated finish time markers displayed on placards along the start area fencing.

HalfMarathonRace RouteThe route is designed to minimise the risk of accidents. Wherever possible, roads have been closed, sections are on an old railway track, and traffic has been limited on to certain sections of the route. Please do not deviate from the designated route for any reason. This is not only a risk to you but to motorists that may still be using part of the roadway.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, minor adjustments may be made to the route. They will be well signposted, and stewards will direct you.

Stafford Area Action for Fairtrade [SAAFT], Stafford's local Fairtrade group, are helping you to "CHANGE TODAY AND CHOOSE FAIRTRADE". Supported by Midlands Co-operative Society and Stafford Borough Council's Sustainable and Healthy Communities team we are giving every runner a nutritious and delicious Co-op Fairtrade Banana at the 2009 Stafford Half Marathon and Fun Run.
On behalf of the event organisers, SAAFT and the Sustainable and Healthy Communities team would like to express their sincere thanks to Midlands Co-operative Society for their support.
Look out for the Big Banana and Team SAAFT running "TOWARDS A FAIRER WORLD".
Buying Fairtrade products helps to assist farmers in devel-oping countries to have a brighter future as they will be paid a fair price for their goods and produce, which in turn means that communities can afford to invest in healthcare, education and more sustainable methods of production.
