Congratulations to all of the students who entered the Melbourne Zoo competition. This Friday 22/11, Year 6 are invited to partipate in the Fighting Extinction Schools Showcase 2019, to celebrate the work that students from across Victoria have done to help Zoos Victoria fight extinction. Our students will be allocated a stall to display the 3 prototypes they made about new enrichment ideas for Meerkats and Ring-Tailed Lemurs. Growing and learning together, on 20/11/2019, at 12-1pm, our whole school will together play team and leadership games that each person to learn how to support a team and show leadership through: • stepping up at times, • stepping back at times and • encourging others. Hoa Nghiem Temple will host the Live Show – Fundraising Night on 14 December 2019 from 6-9 pm with the presence of MC. Viet Thao. The Temple is also seeking donation for the School Construction. What a busy last few weeks we have had in Grade 2! In Writing, we have just finished off our topic of informative texts and we created our own informative posters on a country. We researched the population, food, animals and famous landmarks. We then presented these to our classmates. In Numeracy we have been learning about location and transformation. We learnt about flipping, sliding and turning an object by quarter and half turns. We have also loved learning about the water cycle and creating a mini water cycle for the classroom. We spoke about the different stages of collection, evaporation, condensation and precipitation. We used food die and zip lock bags and watched them each day to see the rain drops stick to the side of the bag, eventually they evaporated and because it has nowhere else to go, turned back into liquid as condensation which then slides back into the pool of water as rain! A reminder that if no homework is sent home it is still an expectation that students are reading and filling in their logs and logging on to reading eggs during the week.

Trong môn Toán, lớp 2 đã học về điểm và sự chuyển động. Các em tìm hiểu về các chuyển động lật, trượt, xoay của các vật thể (chuyển động nửa vòng hoặc một phần tư vòng).
Học sinh cũng vô cùng hứng thú khi học về sự tuần hoàn của nước và việc thiết kế một hệ thống tuần hoàn nước nhỏ ngay trong lớp. Các em đã cùng tìm hiểu về sự khác nhau giữa các hiện tượng bốc hơi, ngưng tụ, kết tủa. Những mẩu qủa nhỏ được cho vào túi ni lon dán kín sau đó mỗi ngày các em sẽ quan sát những giọt nước li ti trên thành túi. Những giọt nước này sẽ ngưng tụ thành những giọt lớn hơn và rơi xuống hồ nước mini như những giọt mưa.
Xin lưu ý với các phụ huynh và các em học sinh rằng cho dù không có bài tập về nhà nhưng cô giáo vẫn kì vọng các em sẽ tự giác đọc sách, điền thông tin vào nhật ký đọc sách và sử dụng phần mềm Readingeggs.

Học kỳ 4 tràn đầy những trải nghiệm thú vị đối với các em học sinh. Các em lớp 5/6 đã tham gia giờ học nghệ thuật chơi trống của người Tây Phi do nhạc công Boubacar hướng dẫn. Nhạc công đã dạy các em cách chơi trống, cách tập trung sáng tạo nhịp trống và giới thiệu cách làm một chiếc trống châu Phi. Tiếp đó, các em học sinh được hướng dẫn thực hiện các điệu nhảy của người Tây Phi. Thật tuyệt vời khi xem các em nhảy tràn đầy năng lượng và cảm hứng. Trong ngày tiếp theo, học sinh toàn trường được tham dự giờ học Kể chuyện và Ứng khẩu do công ty “The Dencent People” đảm trách. Các em học cách xây dựng nhân vật, cùng tưởng tượng và biểu diễn rất tự tin với các bạn. Trong nhà trường việc tạo cơ hội cho các em học sinh tiếp xúc với nhiều thể loại, nhiều phong cách âm nhạc là rất quan trọng. Nghệ thuật biểu diễn sẽ cho các em khám phá năng lực hợp tác, âm nhạc, tập trung,… trong những hoạt động đầy hứng khởi.

Term 4 has been a wonderfully busy term for our students! Year 5 and 6 participated in an exciting workshop with West African drummer Boubacar. He taught our students about how to play the traditional drums, how to focus on creating rhythms and also how the drums are made! The students then got taught choreography to a traditional West African dance and it was wonderful watching them dance with so much energy and enthusiasm. The next day, the whole school got to participate in a Storytelling and Improvisation workshop with a company called 'The Decent People'. Our students learned how to create characters, collaborate imaginatively with each other and be brave and spontaneous in performance. It is important to expose our students to various genres, musical styles and performance opportunities as it gives them a chance to explore their co-ordination, musicality, group skills, focus...all whilst having fun!

STEM news – Mrs Marie-Laure Mimoun In their group, our students are working their Zoos Victoria’s STEM Design challenge. Some groups have chosen to make a prototype of enrichment to care for Ring-Tailed Lemurs. Other groups are focusing on creating a prototype of enrichment for Meerkats. After understanding the challenge during the previous and reporting on they visit at the zoo, they brainstormed and explored possible solutions. As engineers, they are in the ideation phase where they need to explain what were their ideas and how did they decide which one to prototype.

F/1 and Y2 - Our F/1 and Y2 students are learning about Sound. What makes sounds? Vibrations. What is the air made of? Particles. What happens to the particles when a sound makes vibrations? They bump into each other. How does sound travel? In a wave. How do we hear sound? When vibrations bump through the air to our ears. They have learnt the four main sounds: striking – stroking – plucking and blowing. They experimented with how to create melodies by striking glasses more or less filled with water. They also felt the strong vibrations of the Buddhist bell spreading in their hands after ringing it. Later in the term, our F/1 and Y2 will build their own musical instruments to create their own music.

Chúng va đạp vào nhau. Các âm thanh chuyển động như thế nào? Chúng chuyển động như những con sóng. Tai chúng ta nghe thấy âm thanh như thế nào? Tai ta nghe được âm thanh khi những rung động va đập trong không khí và truyền đến tai ta. Các em đã học 4 âm thanh chính: tiếng gõ, tiếp đập, tiếng lắc và tiếng thổi. Các em cũng học cách tạo nên nhịp điệu qua việc gõ vào cái cốc đầy nước hoặc ít nước hơn. Các em cũng cảm nhận sự rung động mạnh của chiếc chuông trong tay mình khi gõ chuông. Cuối kỳ này các em lớp F/1 và lớp 2 sẽ có thể tạo nên một nhạc cụ và giai điệu của riêng mình.

Tiến độ xây dựng trường mới đang được đẩy nhanh. Hiện nay chúng ta đã đặt khung tầng 2 của công trình. Các em học sinh rất hứng thú ngắm nhìn trường học tương lai mọc lên cao hơn mỗi ngày.
Hy vọng những điều điều kiện khách thuận lợi để tiến độ xây dựng ổn định, trường mới kịp khánh thành năm 2020, cũng như mở thêm các lớp học mới cho các em Trung Học và các em nhỏ 3-4 tuổi.
