Recently, the City of Los Angeles and Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA), have forged a prec-edent setting partnership to renovate and expand Lafayette Park. When the expansion and renovations are completed in late Spring 2010, the community will benefit from a field turf soccer field, stateof-the-art gymnasium, wireless computer lab, classrooms and community meeting rooms, as well as HOLA’s existing art studios, fine arts library, dance studio, digital media center and education learning center. The partnership will provide supplemental recreation and enrichment programming to develop the physical, social, and emotional well being of the entire community.

While Lafayette Community Center is under construction, park programming will be lim-ited and held at nearby locations, inclucing MacArthur Park and Heart of Los Angeles.

Hours of Operation:Monday - Friday 9:00am- 9:00pm

Saturday 9:00am- 5:30pm

There are currently no Sunday hours

Registration InformationMinimum enrollment is necessary to maintain each class. Unless the minumum is reached by the third class meeting, the class will be cancelled. Some classes fill rapid-ly and the maximum number may be reached by the final registra-tion date. Registrations are taken during the facility’s hours of op-eration.

Payment ProcedurePayment by check or money order only. Please make checks payable to the City of Los Angeles. A col-lection fee will be charged for each check returned by the bank.

Refund PolicyThere are no refunds unless an activity or class is cancelled.

ProgramsElementary - SmartStart After SchoolSmartStart is an elementary education program for youth in grades first through fifth that provides individualized academic support and daily enrichment opportunitues. SmartStart’s academic support consists of homework assistance, 1:1 tutoring, weekly learning centers and additional in-school support for students and their families. Enrich-ment opportunities include experiences with the arts, music, choir, cooking, sports, tech-nology and science.

Middle School - Daytime BridgesHOLA Bridges Daytime is a middle school inter-session enrichment program that renewsstudents’ interest in academics through experiential learning and civic participation. Par-ticipants attend six hours a day, five days a week for for the entirety of their eight week vacation, receiving instruction in music, fine arts, leadership, PE, academic tutoring, as well as going on enrichment field trips and participating in service learning projects.

Middle School - Bridges After-SchoolThe HOLA Bridges After-School Program offers middle school youth individualized and group tutoring sessions that are designed to prepare students for academic success. In addition to educational opportunities, participants choose from a variety of enrichment activities, including media arts, sports, and visual and performing arts. On Fridays, par-ticipants engage in educational and recreational field trips, including visits to local col-leges and universities.

hip hOp danceParticipants learn a variety of dance styles, primarily danced to hip hop music. The class teaches you all you need to know about hip hop dance from old school to new school. lOvinG Me, lOvinG OuRselvesThis class will encourage students to ap-preciate their bodies and feel comfortable in their own shoes. As they navigate through high school they will be faced with issues about body image, through the media and with peers. In this class girls will be allow to express themselves through art, writing, and exercise. They will be allowed to share person-al experiences and offer positive comments to their peers. With guidance they will find their individual qualities besides physical appear-ance. Students will also get a chance to see how celebrities are made “more” beautiful and skinny through Photoshop and films. As a final project, the girls will be assigned to create a piece of art outlining their new found quali-ties without mentioning anything about their physical appearance.

Students will cover reading comprehen-sion and vocabulary, arithmetic, algebra I and II, functions, planar and coordinate geometry, and probability (calculators permitted), essay compo-sition, grammar and usage, critical reading, math, or writing multiple-choice questions.
