the occasion of his beginning a new series of his wellknown and popular travel OSUOB Tho subject last night was Munich and Bavaria and the lec- turer took his audience with him from the dock in Hoboken through a storm in the North Atlantic safely to tho capital He showed Munich as a fine example of the modern German municipality well governed well lighted and with new buildings constructed not only for utility but with an idea of mak- ing tho city beautiful Then the lecturer wandered off into the Bavarian country with of course the story of that mad king who did so much for the glory of Bavaria His tragic life story was graph- ically told by Ir Holmes and superb pictures were shown of the wonderful palaces he built tile castles he planned and which are now national museums The audience went with Mr Holmes by autompblle through Bavaria over the Alps into Austria and out again and the little journey into the world ended at tho Ober See- The lectures of Mr Holmes are not only interestiQg and picturesque but they are highly educative as well It is of course impossible In the course of one lecture to show all the beauties of such- a land as Bavaria but with Intelligence artistic skill and an eye of discrimina- tion Mr Holmes has selected those focal points of interest that leave his au ditors satisfied that they have seen the best To the beautifully colored stationary pictures are added several Interesting motion pictures which add greatly to the pleasure of the evening Last nights lecture will be repeated this afternoon and next Sunday evening the subject win be The Passion Play of 1910 Funeral of Thomas Williams The funeral of Thomas Williams who died at his home 1408 Ninth street porth west last Friday will be the Church of the Immaculate MUNICH AND BAVARIA

Burton Holmes Starts Ills Sew Se-

ries of Lectures at the Columbia-A crowded house greeted Burton

Holmes at the Columbia last night on theoccasion of his beginning a new series ofhis wellknown and popular travelOSUOB Tho subject last night was

Munich and Bavaria and the lec-

turer took his audience with him fromthe dock in Hoboken through a storm inthe North Atlantic safely to tho

capital He showed Munich as afine example of the modern Germanmunicipality well governed well lightedand with new buildings constructed notonly for utility but with an idea of mak-ing tho city beautiful

Then the lecturer wandered off into theBavarian country with of course thestory of that mad king

who did so much for the glory ofBavaria His tragic life story was graph-ically told by Ir Holmes and superbpictures were shown of the wonderfulpalaces he built tile castles he plannedand which are now national museums

The audience went with Mr Holmes byautompblle through Bavaria over theAlps into Austria and out again and the

little journey into the world ended attho Ober See-

The lectures of Mr Holmes are notonly interestiQg and picturesque but theyare highly educative as well It is ofcourse impossible In the course of onelecture to show all the beauties of such-a land as Bavaria but with Intelligenceartistic skill and an eye of discrimina-tion Mr Holmes has selected those focalpoints of interest that leave his auditors satisfied that they have seen thebest

To the beautifully colored stationarypictures are added several Interestingmotion pictures which add greatly to thepleasure of the evening Last nightslecture will be repeated this afternoonand next Sunday evening the subject winbe The Passion Play of 1910
