This week’s winner of the

Lark Plant was

awarded to Mr

B Vickery for a

26 month old

Hereford Steer

at £1190..

The dispersal of the Bearsted mainly pedigree

herd of Holstein Friesian Dairy cattle on behalf

of Farley Farms, Reading, Berkshire were well

rewarded by travelling the herd to

Holsworthy.

The Bearsted herd comprised large capacious

cows which were well fleshed with good

udders, legs and feet. The freshly calved

portion of the sale met a flying trade with

spirited bidding from buyers keen to purchase

these quality heavy yielding cows. Trade

topped at £2100 for ‘Bearsted Smokin Brenda’

a 3rd calver having calved on the 10th October

yielding 44Kgs. This was closely followed by

‘Bearsted Rex Daisy’ another October calved 3rd calver yielding 43Kgs and selling at £2050. 2nd calvers topped at £1995 for ‘Bearsted Denali Daisy’. Freshly

calved heifers also met exceptional demand topping at 1900 Gns (£1943) on two occasions, both for non-

pedigree registered heifers that calved in September and October.

Trade for spring and summer calving cattle remained very strong with quality animals in great demand. Heifers

within this calving pattern topped at £1911 for a August calved non registered heifer. Cows in this calving

period topped at £1628 for ‘Bearsted Denali Inspired’ a 2nd calver having calved in June and yielding 33Kgs. Many

of the pre April calved cattle had either lost time or were not back in calf and this did as would be expected

have an effect on the trade. However, this section contained many highlights including an outstanding heifer

that calved in January 2018 and is due the end of June 2019 selling at £1911.

The sale continued with dry cows selling on a fast trade topping at £1386 for ‘Wyndford Snowman Schady VG86’

due the end of January to Hereford. In calf heifers had a phenomenal trade with mid gestation heifers selling

better than we have seen all year reflecting the quality of the herd. Topping the trade at £1260 was a 6 month

in calf heifer. The trade for bulling heifers followed on from the in calf heifers with great demand and as strong

a trade as we have seen for young stock since mid-summer. Maiden heifers topped at £725 for a group of three

born April 2017. Yearlings topped at £630 for a group of four born in May 2018. Heifer calves topped at £399

for a October born calf out of the overall top price cow in the sale ‘Bearsted Smokin Brenda.’

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Farley Farms on their instructions to sell the Bearsted pedigree

herd of Holstein Friesians and we look forward to selling the Bearsted herd of Jerseys at our Exeter Livestock

Market on Friday 14th December.

Next Wednesday 19th December – Mid Month sale of Dairy cattle with an expected entry of 60

freshly calved cows and heifers and in calf heifers.
