Father Ron
… from the Pastor’s Desk :
Advent 2017-the shortest one in recorded history. Barely 23 days long. It is hard to believe that Christmas is NEXT WEEK! Wow! This means we are in the final days of Advent. And so our focus is-Getting to the Manger. So often the final days before Christmas becomes a blur of activity. Hope-fully this year, we have gotten good at using the background time each day to focus our reflection and conversation with God the Father and with Je-sus. Now that we have come to the hectic days, we can choose to stay focused right up to the end and including Christmas. One of the special ways to do that is to not lose the manger. It is the center-piece of the story and it is loaded with meaning, a message, consolation and fruit for us. The riches of the Advent experiences are here—in letting ourselves imagine the Holy Family of Joseph and Mary arriving in Bethlehem for the census, having nowhere to stay. A special transfor-mation begins to happen the day before Christmas when we start to imagine that stable where our Sav-ior was born. It is the deepening antidote to some of the excesses the last few weeks of Christmas prepa-ration. Perhaps too much glitz, too many parties and celebrations which are quite a few degrees off center. It is there in the stable, in its humble feeding trough but I will find the fulfillment of my longing and hope. In that poverty my Savior, my Light and Peace, reveals to me the Good News He came to bring. He came into the world as He would leave it, humble and dependent upon God. Christmas Joy. Christmas will be totally dif-ferent, after this kind of deep Advent Journey. We can’t help but experience real joy for having pre-pared to be renewed in the gift of life that comes to us through Jesus.
We will sing, “Oh Come All Ye Faithful, Joyful and Triumphant:, with a much deeper meaning for us, when there is more light than darkness., more freedom than addiction, more hope than discourage-ment, more peace than conflict . We have much rea-son to rejoice at such a gift. Putting the meaning back into Christmas is reason enough to give Advent a new chance this year, in the midst of our busy lives. What a blessing, what a joy!
Invitation – Ministry to the Homebound
You’ll probably receive lots of invitations this holi-day season. Can you accept this one? We need more ministers to the Homebound! Each week volunteers visit people within the parish who cannot attend Mass on Sundays. They bring Holy Communion, the Gos-pel of the Week and the warmth of community to those who would, but for inability, be sitting next to us. Training will be provided! The requirements are few: Be a faithful Confirmed Catholic, meeting dioc-esan requirements for Eucharistic Ministry. Have your own transportation. Be willing to donate an hour (or more) a week.
“When you visit the sick, you visit Me!” (Matthew 25:39-40 paraphrased)

This Sunday’s Gospel: John 1:6–8, 19–28 During Advent, we prepare for Christmas by listening to the people who prepared the way for Jesus’ coming. In this Sunday’s Gospel, people ask John the Baptist who he is—the Messiah or a prophet. John answers by identifying himself as a voice in the desert, crying out, “Make straight the way of the Lord.” He insists that someone more important than he is coming. The Gospel asks us to recognize Jesus among us by answering his call to be our best Christian selves. http://www.pflaumweeklies.com Around the dinner table this week ask the question “Where did you see God this week? Or Where were you the hands of God this week?”
Christmas Break will begin December 22nd May your time be blessed with the love and peace of Jesus. Sunday classes will resume on January 7th at 9AM & Wednesday classes on January 10th at 3:30PM
