Rev. Gregor Gorsic, Pastor (815) 886-4165 ext. 317

My dear family of St. Andrew the Apostle!

God is a deep, profound friendship that is so marvelous that He is one God, yet three Persons! All of their work directed towards this world is in one sense simply to invite us into this deep, intimate friendship of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Trinity was also a central part of the revelation of Our Lady of Fatima to the three shepherd children. Sr. Lucia ponders this great mystery for many years in her cell in Coimbra, Portugal. In her last book “Calls from the message of Fatima,” she refers to the Most Holy Trinity as the ninth call of the Fatima message. “We are dealing with a mystery that only in Heaven will we be able to comprehend perfectly”. Sr. Lucia uses the example of an orange to help us understand this mystery. “If we pick an orange for example, we remove the skin, we take out the seeds, which can be grown and we are left with the sections that we eat. Thus in a single orange we have three separate things which have three separate purposes. Then why should we be astonished to find three distinct Persons –Father, Son and Holy Spirit –in one God? If we choose to listen, all created things speak to us of God the Creator.” At Our Lady’s May 13 apparition, she opened her hands, bathing the children in a heavenly light that the children knew was the light of God. Lucia described this amazing encounter with our Triune God in this way: “Our Lady opened her hands for the first time, communicating to us a light so intense that as it streamed from her hands, its rays penetrated our hearts and the inner most depths of our souls, making us see ourselves in God, Who was that light, more clearly than we see ourselves in the best of mirrors.” Lucia continued, saying, “by an interior impulse of grace, we fell to our knees, repeating in our hearts: ‘Oh, Holy Trinity, we adore You. My God, my God, I love you in the Most Blessed Sacrament!’” Wherever the Son is, there too the Father and the Holy Spirit are always present. Just as, in the glory of heaven, Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father, in intimate union with the Holy Spirit, so also when, at the bidding of the priest, He becomes present in the Eucharist and is placed in the safekeeping of the tabernacle, surrounded by Mary’s motherly Heart; close to the Son there is always the real presence of the Father and the real presence of the Holy Spirit; there is always present the Divine and Most Holy Trinity. And Mary’s Immaculate Heart is for her Son, a living, beating, motherly tabernacle of love, of adoration, of thanksgiving and of unceasing reparation. When the Angel appeared the third time in dazzling beauty before the three seers, he held in his left hand a chalice, and in his right over the chalice, a host from which drops of blood could be seen falling into the chalice. Leaving the host and the chalice suspended in mid-air, the Angel prostrated himself touching the ground with his forehead. Then he said the following prayer three times: "Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Ghost, I adore you profoundly. I offer you the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for all the outrages, sacrileges and indifferences by which He is offended. By the infinite merits of His Most Sacred Heart and through the intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I pray for the conversion of poor sinners." Then, r ising, he took the chalice and the Host in his hands. He gave the Sacred Host to Lucia, and shared the Blood from the chalice between Jacinta and Francisco, saying as he did so: “Take and drink the Body and Blood of Jesus, horribly outraged by ungrateful men! Make reparation for their crimes and console your God.” That prayer to the Most Holy Trinity is certainly very beautiful and powerful. We could say now that it would seem to have been taught for our times, when the tabernacle in our churches is surrounded today by emptiness and indifference, and where many live as if Jesus were not there. How many today when they enter the church for liturgical functions are not aware of His Divine and Real Presence in our midst? Sometimes Jesus in the Eucharist is placed in some isolated corner whereas He should be placed in the center of our lives in the church, and He should be placed at the center of our ecclesial gatherings, because the Church is Hs temple which has been built first for Him and then for us. O Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us!

In the loving Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Fr. Gregor

Totus Tuus will be here at St. Andrew the Apostle June 18-23, 2017! The Totus Tuus parish summer catechetical youth program is a week-long “parish mission” for Catholic

youth entering grades 1st through 12th. It is dedicated to the proclamation of the Gospel and promoting the Catholic faith through evangelization, catechesis, apologetics, Christian witness, the sacraments, Marian devo-tion, and Eucharistic worship. Totus Tuus aims to assist parents and parishes in the evangeliz-ing and catechizing of their youth by supplementing the work they are already doing. The methodology, structure, content, and enthusiasm of Totus Tuus is concerned not only with teaching the faith, but also igniting the hearts of the team members and young people. The result has been the formation of youth and young adults who continue to dedicate them-selves to the Church’s mission of evangelization.

Beginning on Friday, June 2 until Friday, August 18, the Parish Office will close at noon on Fridays.

siempre sea Bendito y Adorado.

Duch z mojego weźmie i wam objawi”.

MYTHS AND TRUTHS

The following are myths about divorce, annulment, and remarriage in the Catholic Church. (Please note the word annulment is commonly used jargon, but the proper church term is declaration of nullity.)

MYTH #5

A divorced Catholic must receive a declaration of nullity even if they are not going to be remarried.

TRUTH

A Catholic who is civilly divorced does not have to ob-

tain an annulment if they are not planning on remarrying in the Church. However, they may petition for an annul-

ment. In many instances a divorced Catholic without plans to remarry do so because they realize that a future marriage is possible. This gives them the benefit of not having to wait for a declaration of nullity to be granted

when or if they want to get married in the Church.

GRANT ETERNAL REST, LIGHT AND PEACE TO ALL FAITHFUL DEPARTED Please call the parish office by Monday at (815) 886-4165 x301 for the name of your loved one to be placed for 3 weeks on our short term prayer list. Also, please call the parish office, if you are hospitalized and would like a visit from our hospital ministry team or homebound and in need of communion.

Hospital Visitation of Parishioners Please remember that if you or any family members find yourselves in a hospital, be sure to let them know you are a parishioner at St. Andrew’s — it doesn’t hurt to say it a few times, either! Whenever we priests, deacons or Eucharistic Ministers come to visit, we check the hospital list of parishioners printed under “St. Andrew.” But if you’re not listed as a parishioner of St. Andrew, we won’t know you’re even there! We do not want to miss you! You can always call us, too, at the office, (815) 886-4165 ext. 301. Thank you. May the Lord Jesus be with you all your days, to love and be loved by Him, to honor and serve Him, as He honors and serves us!

A COMMUNITY OF WORD AND SACRAMENT SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION

CATECHUMENATE The Catechumenate is a community which gathers those adults who have not been baptized, and seek deeper insight into the Christian faith.

BAPTISM OF CHILDREN We joyfully celebrate the baptism of children of Christian households which are joined to our weekly worship, and have active registration in our parish community for at least 3 months. After registration in the parish, please attend an Evening of Awareness, if you have not attended a class in the past two years, to register for Baptism and select a date. Classes are presented on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Baptism is celebrated on the third Sunday of the month at 1:30 p.m.

EUCHARIST AND CONFIRMATION Formation for those coming first to the table of the Lord as children is infused into the efforts of our school and Faith Formation Office. Confirmation formation is a two year process completed in eighth grade. Please call the Faith Formation Office for more information.

SACRAMENTS OF COMMITMENT MARRIAGE

Marriage preparation is a six month process of prayer, reflection and study. Couples work with both the presider and a sponsor couple through this process. Please note that this six month period of preparation is essential.

ORDERS Those seeking assistance in discerning a call to ordained ministry are encouraged to call the parish offices.

SACRAMENTS OF HEALING RECONCILIATION

Reconciliation is available each Saturday afternoon, 3:00pm, Wednesday evening, 5:45-6:45pm, through seasonal communal services, and by appointment.

ANOINTING Anointing of the Sick is offered through seasonal services, and always by request. If hospitalized, please immediately seek anointing from the Catholic chaplain.

I would like to have my house blessed. Please contact me to make arrangements.
