Thanksgiving has a nickname “Turkey Day.” Denoting to the person using this term that Thanksgiving is all about food. Many of Americans will celebrate Thanksgiving by eating, watching football and napping and then eating some more. Thanksgiving was made a national holiday by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863. Lincoln said in his Thanksgiving Proclamation was that the country should “…set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our generous Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.” (Stone, 1986) This is a stark contrast to how Thanksgiving is spent in most homes now. The Governor of Plymouth Plantation, summed up the perception that the Pilgrims had after their year of extreme hardship: “And thus they found the Lord to be with them in all their ways, and to bless their outgoings and incomings, for which let His holy name have the praise forever, to all posterity.”(Stone.1986) The very name “Pilgrim” means “a person who journeys to a sacred place for religious reasons.” (Oxford, 2011) Now, before you make the claim that Pastor K is somehow taking away the most delicious meal of the year, I am begging you to consider the origins or purpose of Thanksgivings real intend and to make a bold move towards that Truth and with me let go of the world view of “Turkey day.” Pilgrims as we call them, did all to seek God. They came to the New World to seek God. They endured the cold, sickness, and privation as they sought God. And their celebration after the plentiful harvest culminated in thanking God. Their focus was God. The source of this holiday is simple gratitude for God's provision. Invite your family, neighbors, friends and strangers to your table and proclaim your gratitude of God and ALL that He has and continues to bless you with. Share and proclaim this feast giving thanks for their very breath you breathe to your Father in heaven whom created you perfect and celebrate “Thanks” “Giving” giving = love … thanks = God for everything in your life.
Gods Love to you all this Thanksgiving, we praise you Father for everything!!

Mission Committee Project for November 2021 In November the Mission Committee is promoting giving to the Heifer International project. Hope UMC has been generous in years past to support their mission: “to end hunger and poverty while caring for the Earth.” For more than 75 years they have provided livestock and environmentally sound agricultural training to improve the lives of those who struggle daily for reliable sources of food and income. With your donation on Sunday, November 14 we can help families and communities in 21 countries, including the United States, become self-reliant by providing a range of livestock, trees, seeds and training. Due to the Pandemic markets have been closed so farmers are unable to sell their excess goods. A $20.00 donation will provide a food basket to the hungry. All food will be purchased from the farmers. This donation provides a dual purpose– a market for farmers and feeds the hungry. This is special need at this time.
The Rialto Theatre needs volunteers The theatre cannot operate without
volunteers, who can work either behind the counter helping with concessions or selling tickets at the front door. They also help with
sweeping the theatre after the show is over. Helping out comes with some benefits:
volunteers can stay and watch the movie for free, or receive a pass so they can come back and watch another movie.
Volunteers who stay also get free pop and popcorn. Volunteers have been a key to keeping the Rialto up and running in recent years, but the list of helpers has
dwindled. Keeping the volunteer roster full will help the community continue to run its movie theatre. To learn more about volunteering or to sign up, stop by the theatre or email Fritz at [email protected].
Thank you for your help with spreading the word.
